Chapter 20
Hunter raced back to the villa at top speed. Just as expected, Serena sat leisurely sipping tea. She even offered a radiant smile when she saw him.
“Hunter, did you miss me?”
Hunter had no patience for games. His gaze turned icy as he demanded coldly, “How did you come back?”
Serena knew exactly what he was thinking. She curled her lips slowly.
“Turns out Nadine was right–Lethenia exists. She gave me five extra days too. There’s just one thing I need to do to keep living. Want to know what it is, Hunter?”
He couldn’t care less about her conditions. His voice dropped dangerously.
“What about Nadine? She can come back too, right? This time, whatever it takes–I’ll do it. Just bring Nadine back.”
Serena’s smile vanished, replaced by mocking disdain. “Even if it means your death?”
Hunter’s eyes burned with determination. “Yes. Even if it means I die.”
“Well, it’s too bad. What you need to do is worse than dying. Hunter, I asked on your behalf.
“Nadine got those five days because she hated you–she couldn’t let go. But after how you treated her? She gave up. She’s already crossed over. You’ll never see her again.”
Hunter’s restraint shattered. He hadn’t rushed back for this nonsense. Seizing Serena’s throat, barely–contained fury erupted in his eyes.
“If you’ve got nothing useful to say, I’ll gladly kill you again, Serena!”
Having endured his torment before, death no longer frightened her. She laughed wildly while gasping for air.
“Kill me, and you’ll never learn how to find Nadine!”
Hunter had no choice but to release Serena the moment that name was mentioned, no matter how furious he was. The woman smirked triumphantly, and her face was full of mockery.
“If
you love me and let me keep living, on the fifth day I’ll look for Lethenia and make her tell you Nadine’s whereabouts. Hunter, that’s what you must do.”
The man clenched his fists. Loving Serena was impossible as he knew her true nature too well now. He remained silent, but sensing she’d struck his weak point, Serena pressed on.
“Even if you don’t love me, you’ll have to pretend. Only if I live will you get your chance.
Chapter 20
2/2
Didn’t you say you’d do anything for Nadine?
“Hunter, if you can’t do this, I’m leaving right now!”
With that, Serena turned to walk out. Hunter simply gritted his teeth and grabbed her wrist.
She knew her words had worked, yet she bitterly seethed inwardly. Nadine was already dead, yet Hunter still couldn’t let her go!
His voice strained with suppressed rage, fingers crushing her wrist with bone–breaking force.
“Serena…” The name left a bitter taste as he forced it out after so long.
His chest constricted painfully, but Hunter endured the revulsion for Nadine’s sake, for even the slimmest chance to see her again.
Serena brightened instantly, and she intertwined her arm with his, snuggling her head affectionately against his shoulder.
“Hunter, isn’t this perfect? In the end, it’s still just the two of us.”
Whether intentional or not, the words drove Hunter to dig his nails into his palms until they nearly bled. He glared at her with pure hatred.
“The only one I love is Nadine. These five days are for her alone.”
Serena simply smiled and nodded.
