If she could stab her own father–or the man who she believed raised her like his own daughter–what wouldn’t she do to others?”
His jaw clenched, and his hands trembled as he held my gaze. “That’s precisely why I’m stopping you, Isabella! You can’t risk putting yourself in the path of someone who wants to hurt you. Do you understand?”
I know he’s worried about me, but when will justice be served? When everyone else is dead?
“Gray, you want me to hide in a room? How can you be sure I’ll be safe anywhere?” The memory of that first night suddenly became clear. “I just realized–the maid I saw in my room the other night, it was her and a blade.”
I saw it glinting under the hallway light. Charlotte’s been planning this all along.

“We both know that until Charlotte is caught, I’ll never truly be safe–neither will our child. I want to end this, Gray. The only way to end this is to use me as bait while she’s trapped here in the mansion. At least now we can control the situation.”
“Damn it, Bella! Have you lost your mind?” His voice cracked with frustration, barely concealing his fear.

I reached out and took his hand, trying to calm him. “Listen to me, Gray, I’m the one Charlotte wants–we both know that. And I trust you to protect me.”
His jaw tightened, and his silence showed the inner conflict he was struggling with. Nevertheless, I knew I was right.
“We have to do this for our baby. Right now, I’m her target. But after I give birth? Our child will be next–there’s no doubt about that.”
The muscles in his jaw worked as he struggled with the decision, but finally, he gave a sharp nod.
“I’ll stay close,” he said, his voice hard with determination.
I stepped into his arms, wrapping mine around his neck, feeling the warmth of his embrace. Our lips met in a deep kiss, and I tried to savor every second of it as if time itself might slip away. His hand rested gently on my back, holding me steady, but inside, my heart raced.
I couldn’t shake the thought–would this be the last kiss I’d ever share with him?
Breaking away, I moved toward the exit.
Outside the mansion, I called out, my voice filled with determination and defiance, breaking the silence. This was the moment to act—before the ambulance arrived and panic spread among the guests.
“Charlotte! I know you’re there–come out!” I shouted, my voice echoing into the night.
“Face me, Charlotte!”
As Grayson and his bodyguards silently took position among the pine trees, I remained alert, watching the shadows.
“Charlotte!”
A flash of light broke through the darkness as headlights snapped on, lighting up my motionless form. The car’s engine ⚫ roared to life, speeding directly toward me. My mind raced–Grayson had told me Charlotte came by bus. Where did she
get a car?
Damn it.
“Die!” Charlotte’s deranged scream cut through the night.
“Isabella!” Grayson shouted in desperation.
I tried to run, but my legs felt heavy in the snow.
In that split second, something powerful slammed into my shoulders, throwing me toward the snowbank. The impact knocked the wind out of me, but the soft, cold snow softened the fall.
As I struggled to my feet, I saw a man lying motionless in the middle of the road–the person hit by the car. It could have been me if not for the man who’d pushed me out of harm’s way. My back stung from the cold, and a sharp pain bloomed in my stomach.
Through my swimming vision, I realized it wasn’t Grayson who had saved me–it was Gabriel.
The car screeched to a halt, and Charlotte–entirely out of control–dragged out.
“Damn it! Why can’t you die, Isabella? Why does everyone have to protect you?”
She lunged at me with a knife, but before she could reach me, four of Grayson’s bodyguards intercepted and restrained her.
“Let me go! I’ll kill that woman! She took everything from me!” Her eyes burned with rage, her voice wild and unhinged.
