Chapter 12
Every year, Kingsbury City hosted its prestigious corporate networking conference, drawing only the most elite business leaders. But no matter where you looked in the room, all eyes were drawn to one figure: Nathan.
The man everyone whispered about.
In just three years, Nathan had transformed from an ambitious young man into a master strategist. Breaking away from his family’s vast business empire, he had launched a groundbreaking venture of his own, making waves with a stellar quarterly report that announced his arrival on the scene.
Nathan wasn’t leaning on the old family business anymore; he’d created a new industry from the ground up.
“Do you know why Young Mr. Harrison decided to strike out on his own?” a young woman asked excitedly. It was her first time at such an event, surrounded by so many influential figures, and her colleague seemed more than eager to share some juicy gossip.
“You won’t believe this,” her colleague continued, “but Young Mr. Harrison famously left his bride at the altar! I don’t know the full story, but he ditched his long–time fiancée and drove off in his Porsche.”
“Marriage among the wealthy is never as simple as it seems, is it? By pulling a stunt like that, he slapped his parents and their business partners right in the face. His father tried to threaten him with the family business, and he just walked away.”
“Oh my goodness,” the young woman gasped, covering her mouth in shock at this high–society scandal. “Why
did he run off? Tell me, don’t leave me hanging!”
“I told you, I don’t know all the details. Someone at the wedding said he got a phone call and bolted. My guess? Someone he truly loved was in trouble. It’s like a drama.”
Cene from a play–unrequited love, the chase… quite the
The young woman’s eyes widened as a tall, imposing figure moved behind them. Her face turned pale, and she tugged frantically at her colleague’s sleeve. “Mr. Harrison,” she stammered, lowering her gaze, “is there something you need?”
Nathan had been listening to their gossip for who knows how long. With his sharp features and intense, brooding eyes, he was not someone to cross lightly.
“Where’s the restroom?” he asked.
Her colleague finally turned around, his legs shaking. He cursed his luck for being a man, forced a grin onto his stiff face, and stammered, “Mr. Harrison, uh, let me show you the way…”
To their surprise, Nathan didn’t explode in anger. He followed the trembling man to the restroom, leaving him waiting outside, too scared to move.
When Nathan emerged, he glanced at the man and said, “You’re right.”
“Pardon?” The man was baffled.
Nathan continued, “My loved one passed away.”
Those simple words were like a lightning bolt, leaving the man speechless as Nathan casually dried his hands and added, “You’ve got a knack for news. You’re wasting your talents here. How about coming to work for me?” The man couldn’t tell if Nathan was being sarcastic or genuinely offering a job. He knew that Nathan now ran a medical company, a field he had no experience in, and he almost bowed to the floor in confusion.
But then, Nathan handed him a business card, his name boldly printed on it.
“Bring the young lady along, too.”
Lucas never imagined that gossiping could land him a job. His hand shook as if electrified, and he pinched himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. Looking at Nathan on stage, composed and direct, he thought

aloud, “Maybe the boss wants me under his thumb to make my life miserable… But Lucas, are you really content to be a hotel concierge forever? Screw it, I’m in!”
He shared the news with Sophie Lawrence, who reacted in the same stunned manner. Even after the event ended, they were both still trembling.
“Lucas,” Sophie said, her face ashen, “I heard more gossip about Young Mr. Harrison. Want to hear it?”
“Isn’t his company in the medical field?” Lucas asked. “I heard he started it because his loved one died of cancer, and now it’s thriving. When he said you’re good with information, maybe he wanted you as a drug rep.”
“And what about me?” Lucas pointed at her. “Why bring me along?”
“Maybe they think I’m pretty…”
Sophie was indeed beautiful. At their upscale hotel, looks were part of the hiring criteria. Lucas studied her serene face and suddenly understood.
“Are you sure it’s not because they want to exploit you?”
With these uneasy thoughts, they headed to Nathan’s company for an interview. The firm was called Miss Tia, and Sophie didn’t need to guess that it was named after Nathan’s late partner.
Armed with Nathan’s business card, they bypassed the waiting area. The receptionist, a striking woman, smiled warmly at Sophie’s face. “Mr. Harrison is expecting you upstairs.”
The receptionist was stunning, and Lucas noticed the resemblance between her and Sophie. He frowned, whispering, “Don’t you think she looks a bit like you?”
“Really?” Sophie used her phone’s black screen as a mirror, studying her reflection until she saw it too. “Yeah, the eyes are similar.”
When they reached Nathan’s office, it became clear. Both the receptionist and Sophie bore a striking resemblance to someone important-
