Chapter 0099
Oh and let me say this so you’re not caught off guard. I’m going to the city to sort out basic stuff. I’ll be back soon. And the next time I fly out of here, I’ll take you with me! Both of you!”
“No you won’t! What do you even mean?” I asked.
He started to walk away as he replied,
“You’ll see. Now don’t go thinking it’s a threat. It’s not! Like I told you before, things are changing fast.”
Cassie White
Those shitheads! And that good–for–nothing Bronco!
“Ughrr!!”
Cassie screamed in rage, hurling her phone at the door.
Her uncle ducked on the way in.
“Cassie, darling! What is going on?”
She lowered her head in shame that he would see her like this.
Her poise and elegance was one criteria for getting the recommendation to be the Alpha’s chosen mate. Imagine if her uncle had walked in with another elder such as, Goddess forbid, Chief Alaric.
“What is it, Cassie? What could possibly be wrong? You said all was going well. You talked to him last night, didn’t you?” her uncle asked urgently.
How did she tell him that the Alpha had actually mentioned a break–up? That he had an illegitimate boy pup and a female he looked at like she was his entire world.
“Tell me,” he urged.
One great source of her anxiety was the silence. Something had gone wrong. Twenty–fours had gone by without a word from her contact.
Also, On the phone, Nick had not sounded like he was mourning his bastard’s disappearance.
Cassie inhaled and tried to even her breathing. Her uncle took her by the arm and led her to
the chair.

“He’s been faithful and attentive. That’s what you said the last time I asked. What’s wrong?”
“Not so faithful and attentive this past few weeks,” she replied before thinking.
“Did you catch him with anyone?” Her uncle asked with a frown.
Oh oh.
“No… just… he’s been missing our dates a lot,” she replied.
“You know he’s a very busy person, Cassandra,” her uncle scolded.
“Yeah, he’s gotten busier!” She tried not to grit her teeth.
“I can’t say I know how you feel right now, but I imagine it must be frustrating to wait in uncertainty. Especially given his history. But you have to hang in there, Cassie. Our family marrying into the Reigns is a massive honor and worth the wait! It’s been what, five, six months? You’ve come far. His last engagement ended within three months!”
He was right. Except that Nick was already trying to call off their engagement too.
When Cassie entered into this arrangement, she resolved never to end up like Denise Adam. Ditched. Living in fear that word could get out soon that she was the Alpha’s reject.
Cassie’s uncle, Damascus, told her these stories of his ex–fiances. And she was so sure she
would never turn out like the three of them.
“The Luna said he would fix a date once he was less busy,” Damascus went on.
“We don’t know when that would be. But I’m starting to think he needs a little push, sweetheart. If you both made it this far, he does want you to be his luna. A little push could get things rolling.”
Cassie went silent as an idea started to form in her head.
“Push!” she repeatedly thoughtfully. That was it.
“You’re smart, Cassie darling. I trust you! That’s why I know that the Whites will bear the next Alpha and head of Reign empire.”
Would he say the same thing if he knew about the bastard pup? Oh, how she wanted to
believe it.
She had to think fast and come up with a plan B if those three morons have failed. Her uncle was still speaking as he stood up to leave. She tried so hard to listen and think at the same
time.

“By the way, I hear he’s back in Reign Towers. He was away all weekend and yesterday too.”
“Oh. Yeah, so I heard,” she remarked.
At least, Nick had flirted with her last night. He had said the simple okay before hanging up. That had to mean he really would see her today, right?
Once her uncle was out of sight, she picked up her phone. The screen was cracked. Wiping the bits of glass and dirt from it, she set out to make some important calls to set things in
motion.
The Luna was the first person she contacted. Elise Reign had to get on board with her plan. If that old she–wolf didn’t approve, the work she was about to set out to do would be for nothing.
