Sara POV 

The next morning, I was determined to be normal. It was a new day. Yesterday never happened as far as I was concerned. 

It was also time to get back home. Thankfully, my duties for the day were at the site instead of the office. 

I decided that I would trust Nick for now and not worry about Jake and Miss Suarez. There would be time to decide whether I wanted to report them to the agency or not. 

Alex and I were ready to leave before 7 AM. The alpha and his wolves were nowhere in sight as we made our way to the living room. 

How did I leave? After yesterday, I had developed mild phobia for the town’s street cabs. I would call an Uber, but I didn’t have a phone. Or I could just borrow one of their cars. 

I stood thinking of what to do when Nick emerged, looking like a mob boss. He’d been in his office from the look of things. 

I knew without a doubt that he was returning to Los Angeles immediately. His jaw was tight and face hard as he sauntered into the living room. What could’ve upset him so early in the morning? Not that I cared. 

Alex grinned at the sight of dad. Only then did Nick’s face softened. 

As he lowered himself in front of our son, he mindlinked me, 

‘I didn’t think you’d leave yet. Are you in a hurry to go to him?‘ 

“Good morning, daddy,” Alex greeted as they bumped fist. 

“Good morning to you, little Reign,” he replied then touched his cheek tenderly before leading him to the elevator. 

He didn’t give me another look apart from the initial lustful glance. I had now grown expectant of the stomach fluttering those grey eyes evoked whenever he looked at me like that. 

I decided to ignore his question. Then he asked out loud, 

“Why the rush to leave? You’re safer here!” 

“I don’t know about that. I mean I got drugged last night,” I replied.

“Sedated! Not drugged!” He replied firmly. “You can’t deny that you look and feel good as new this morning. Enough to rush out of here to go meet your boyf…” He didn’t finish. 

We were in the elevator now. There was no need for any further comments so I kept quiet. 

When we reached the parking lot, the guards were already waiting. 

Lindsey gave me a strange look, a hint of relief in her eyes when they moved to Alex. Without thinking, I lifted my hand and gave her a friendly wave. She frowned then looked away quickly. 

Maybe I felt guilty for getting her into trouble. After all, her job was to protect my son. As far as I was concerned, that task was above all else. 

“Lindsey’s coming with me,” Nick said in a curt tone. 

“Richard’s guys will keep an eye on you and the little one always.” 

Wait, he truly was upset that we were leaving? 

“Thank you,” I blurted. 

“For what?” 

“For coming for us. Thank you for keeping us safe,” I said. 

“Sara, that’s my son. You’re his mother. You can’t applaud a bird for flying!” 

Maybe he had the whole night to think about the situation. And now he saw what I did wrong yesterday hence, the cold attitude this morning. 

He guided Alex to the car, opened the door and settled the child inside. 

“I’m going out of town, little wolf! I’m going to catch the one who tried to hurt you and mommy. I’ll be back soon, okay?” 

Alex nodded. 

“And I’ll see you AS SOON AS I get back, whether it’s my turn or not!” 

He redirected a hard gaze at me as he said this. “Your mommy owes me time.” 

Alex didn’t understand the statement except for the part about seeing him when he got back. But he gave his father his best smile in return. 

Nick then turned to me and said, 

“Just know that Richard’s people will always be near! They’ll follow you EVERYWHERE.”

“You’re repeating yourself-” 

“So you’ll understand,” he cut me off. “They’ll follow you everywhere. I’m talking work, dates, wherever you go!” 

When I simply stared at him without a word, he asked, 

“You got something to say?” 

“Why are you holding back from saying what you really want to say? What happened is my fault! Go ahead, blame me like you want to. But let’s not forget the fact that YOU are the reason we needed a day off. You’re the reason I snuck him out of class!” I pointed an accusing finger at him. 

His brow creased in a brief frown. Then he replied, 

“You’re right, it’s my fault. That’s why I’ve given orders to see to it that you’re both safe at all times. Now if you don’t let them do their jobs and something bad happens again, it’ll be YOUR 

fault! Got that?
