Sara POV 

Judging from Wide mouth’s restlessness and how red the back of his neck got earlier, I knew he was talking to someone of greater authority. Male werewolves couldn’t help that reaction around another angry male of a much higher rank. 

I caught the words “your whore and heir,” which gave me the clue that he was talking to Nick. Moments after, they brought the phone to me but didn’t even let me talk to him. 

Now, I was holding on the fact that the alpha would come for his child. He had to. It didn’t matter what happened to me as long as Alex got rescued. 

Oh, but the sound of his voice had comforted me deeply. So much more than I expected. But I would give anything to have Alex in my arms right now. 

Thick neck had gone to the other room with the phone. Wide mouth still stood near the window, occasionally glancing my way. He had become much more restless after the call with Nick. An odd contrast to the earlier smugness when he announced delightedly that “the alpha said please.” 

I sat on the floor with hands, legs, and mouth tied, praying silently that they at least brought Alex to me. Minutes later, like an answer to the prayer, Thick neck dragged my son by the 

collar into the room and tossed him towards me. 

I bolted up to run towards him but recalled that my legs were bound. I wanted to gather him in my arms so much. 

‘My baby… I’m so sorry,’ I mindlinked even though he couldn’t hear me yet. I nuzzled him, trying to scan for injuries. 

‘Are you alright?‘ How I wished I could ask him out loud. 

He buried his head in my chest. It was clear that apart from being scared, he couldn’t stand being near the rogues. Their presence disgusted him. Much like kale or an open garbage 

truck. 

I did not dare to raise my eyes and look at the filth near us now. It was Thick neck. He waited a foot away. 

I offered a silent prayer that he wouldn’t hit me in front of my child. One side of my face was still bruised from the slaps. I earned those plus the gag for running my mouth instead of keeping quiet “like a lamb.”

It was enough that they’d finally brought Alex to me. I felt thankful for that. They hadn’t hurt him at all. Of course, he was the real price. 

What was the plan now after talking to Nick? This wasn’t the Luna’s handiwork then, was it? I wondered many things as my son laid upon my chest. Things like how I came to be here. 

Only a minute ago, I was a single mother living a nice and quiet life in a small town with her father and son. All of that seemed like a vague dream now. 

After talking to Alex on the phone that morning, I’d been too upset with Nick disappointing 

our son. 

My frustration had resulted to a lack of motivation for anything but spending the day with him. We were supposed to go be with my dad throughout the day. How did I get from there to here? Kidnapped with my son by rogues? Actual rogues! 

And they were everything I had heard and read about. Which meant this could get very bad. 

For 

my son’s sake, I refused to think of how horrible things could turn out. His arms grew tighter around me. 

His face remained on my chest as we waited for what the men would do next. They talked of selling me as slave to another pack and smuggling Alex out of the country. It seemed that was the original agreement with whoever sent them. Probably Luna Reign. 

From Thick neck’s conversation on the phone, I knew that plan had changed. I didn’t know it that was a good thing or not. 

Go fetch entered the room soon. He was always keeping watch. Why was he here? The three stood grumbling in low voices. 

I strained to pick up anything, but it was impossible. Though I could tell when they switched to mindlink sometimes. They finished their murmurings, and Go fetch went out again. 

“They’re ready!” Wide mouth said as he followed Go fetch.
