Chapter 0205
As my gaze locked with the Alpha’s, I considered taking off to pretend I was out racing. That would be silly. I discarded the thought fast. He already caught me. Pretense wouldn’t save me.
So… how do I play this?
Just be cool, Jake.
“I sensed a wolf behind me earlier,” I said. “That wasn’t you, was it? I would’ve sensed it for
sure.”
Irrelevant.
As I spoke, he moved closer. Just how the f*ck did I get out of this? I wasn’t ready to spill.
I scanned him to try to check how he felt. There was no trace of annoyance, only a range of other feelings. Disappointment was one of them, though it was mild. There was intrigue and amusement too. And disapproval?
“It was Tony,” he replied with a smirk.
“He was on patrol. I was spying on my mate. Thought I’d check on her and the pup before catching up with you and Rich. The gamma ran into me and mentioned that he’d just seen you around here.”
“Ah,” I mouthed, nodding like he’d just finished an interesting tale.
“So you thought: Lemme spy on my beta instead?” I asked.
He didn’t take the bait. Instead, he waited for me to explain myself. I remained still, clinging to the silly hope that he was clueless. Maybe he didn’t see me looking in the direction of Jane’s
house.
“This isn’t what it looks like, Nick,” I said at last.
“I don’t know what it looks like. That’s why I’m waiting for you to tell me.”
He seemed so genuinely confused that I began to wonder if I could actually lie my way out. I was spying on the girl. Plain and simple. The question was, what reasons would a male have for doing such? What lies could I tell here?
“I’ve waited long enough for you to tell me what is going on with you,” he said.
“I was worried that you were under a lot of stress with all the business projects and the war.”
He heaved a deep sigh. “But I told myself that it was you. The cool, sensible, level–headed

one. I trusted that you would be alright soon. And yesterday, it felt like you were back to normal. But the symptoms returned again last night.”
He was right about the stress part. This conversation was a major stress. The fact that I could still hear Jane’s voice was stress. That I couldn’t see her in the coming days was already stressing the shit out of me.
“Talk to me, Jake,” he urged. “Because the sight I just saw? That was too weird. You’re spying on Sara’s friend. And this is not the first time. That’s right, I followed you that first night.”
I knew it.
I felt him behind me that night but was so sure he would go his way. Why? Cuz he was preoccupied with Sara and the little one.
“I was…” I trailed off. What the f*ck should I say?
“She’s…”

“I mean, yeah, the sleepwalking thing is pretty fascinating. But. That girl is not an attorney. Or a surgeon. Or an actress. She’s not a stripper. She’s a half she–wolf who went to community college. But you already know this, don’t you, Jake?”
Translation: She is not even your type. Why have you been in and out your mind this past
week?
“Ordinarily, Jane Brown is someone you wouldn’t give a second look in the street. Tell me why you’re spying on her.”
“Cuz she’s p–pretty,” I stated.
He breathed, taking a step closer. “Yeah, she is. Try again!”
shrugged.
“Look, she’s Sara only friend, alright.” His tone carried a warning note.
He believed without a doubt that I was messing with her?
“I didn’t stick around to watch you watch her that day cuz I assumed you were merely curious. by her ability to walk around while sleeping. I never thought you would want more.”
“I don’t want more, Alpha”
Or did I?
He nodded. “That’s obvious. The fact that you’re sneaking and haven’t mentioned her to me

yet? That shows there’s only one thing you want. But can I ask you to leave her alone?”
