Jane POV
Nick Reign approached with his gaze fixed on Sara. He wore nothing but a loose tank shirt and shorts. For a moment, his eyes seemed to glow. Or maybe it was just me seeing things
again.
His mouth parted in a playful smile as he approached in slow, powerful strides. It felt like he and Sara were talking. Though not with their mouths. Their eyes did all of the communication.
This was the second time I would stand at such a close range with the big shot. His shoulders and tattooed muscles were large and broad.
A very attractive man indeed.
The cameras didn’t do him justice at all. Just like they didn’t do Jake any justice either. As I watched him, I couldn’t help but recall everything I read and saw on G****e about my new husband who worked directly with him.
“Damn, gurl, your man is fiiiine,” I whispered.
But even as I said this, it was images of Jake Carlisle that filled my mind.
The two had the same physique, though big shot was slightly bigger than the husband. They had the exact same confident strides and manner. Even their gaze was the same; piercing.
Predatory.
I could totally see how Jake was the number two man in Reigns Group.
Nick gave a brief laugh like he heard my remark about his looks. Like he could read my mind. Though his eyes never left Sara.
I found myself wondering what it would feel like to have Jake look at me like this.
“What are you doing here?” Sara asked.
And in such skimpy clothes.
Were they immune to the cold? I wondered.
“I could ask you the same thing,” he said with a laugh, then leaned to kiss her on the lips.
“We’re out hunting for dinner. I don’t believe you’ve met my friend, Jane.”
Only then did his gaze shift to me. Sharp grey eyes met mine. Or were those green eyes?

Even though they glinted with friendliness, I still felt intimidated and small. The man was a powerful presence. A overwhelming urge to lower my head had me moving my gaze back to my friend.
“Nice to meet you, Jane,” he said, extending his hand. His voice was gentle and assuring.
“The pleasure is mine, Mr. Reign.”
“Please, call me Nick. You’re Sara’s friend. That makes us friends.”
I attempted another look at his smooth, perfect features. His smile was warm, and he kept the handshake soft and light like he was careful not to break my fingers.
“So my Sara’s teaching you how to hunt?”
“Yeah,” I nodded. “We were about to murder a squirrel when you showed up.”
“Aww, sorry to get in the way of that.”
“It’s okay. I’ve lived all my life in the countryside and small towns. This is something I should know how to do well. I wouldn’t be bothering Sara if I had learned when everyone else did. But my mother thinks killing is a sin, so…”
I pursed my lips. Was I talking too much?
“Do you agree with her?” He asked.
I had never thought about it and didn’t know what response was best. When I didn’t reply, he said,
“Where we come from, it’s not a sin if you’re hunting for food. Or if you’re protecting those you love.”
As his hand rested on Sara’s waist, I knew those weren’t mere words to make conversation. He meant every single word, especially the part about protecting those you love.
“In fact, the Mother wills you to kill anyone that threaten your loved ones,” he added proudly while interlocking his fingers with Sara’s.
The Mother? Who?
“He means, god,” Sara quickly chimed in. Then she gave him a reproving look.
“Yeah, that’s what I mean. God wills you to do murder sometimes, Jane,” he smirked.
I wanted to argue that the Ten Commandments would disagree, but all I could do was nod. Not only does it feel like the argument would be pointless with this man, I knew for a fact that
