Chapter 0186
Jane POV
Mrs. Carlisle?
That was not my name, was it? Guess I would have to check the agreement to see what it
said about names.
Brushing aside the tingle in my heart, I smiled at the hefty man.
“Please call me Jane,” I said to him.
He didn’t act like he heard me. Instead, he motioned towards the Lexus sitting near Jake’s departing SUV.
I wondered if he told the man not to call me by my first name. I wouldn’t tolerate that because he’d just reminded me mere seconds ago that this was a temporary marriage. Not a “till death do us part” type. I imagined how easy it would be to get used to being called Mrs Carlisle, which was dangerous.
“You can call me Jane,” I repeated as Donald held the door open.
Once I sat down, he gave a half smile before shutting the door. Then he went around to get into the passenger side. No response or acknowledgement to my request.
“Do you have a restaurant in mind?” He asked.
I could grab a burger at the nearest McDonald’s. I didn’t say that aloud, embarrassed that it would sound silly to the man. I started to reach into my purse for my phone to search for a nearby restaurant when he said,
“I know a great place. It’s where Mister Reign and your husband often eat whenever they’re here on business. Should I take you there?”
“Sure.” I nodded.
He immediately put a call through to make a last minute brunch reservation.
The sophisticated black card was still in my hand. I turned it around to take a good look, smoothing my fingers on the boldly scrawled letters at the lower part.
- Carlisle.
It wasn’t long before Donald pulled into the parking lot of an elegant glass building.
The place felt so intimidating on the outside that I almost went back to my initial choice of

the nearest fast food. When I imagined what Jake might think of that, I took a deep breath and made my way inside. Fortunately, it was nearly empty at this hour of the day.
Soon, I had been shown to a table with an amazing view. After which, I ordered the simplest, most understandable meal on the menu. Eggs benedict with roasted potatoes.
In the middle of eating, I’d half–forgotten my new, temporary status when my phone started to ring
Jake
1 wiped my mouth quickly, eager to talk to him.
“Hey, hi
Hey hi? Get it together, gurl
So this is a conference call, I’m adding the sergeant, so you can talk to him,” he said simply.
My stomach went sout as disappointment sarred. He wasn’t calling to check on me. To see if I was at the airport. Or to ask if we could eat brunch together. No. He was calling to fulfil a
Dart of the deal
Hey, Jane, what’s up?” Avery said.
“Where are you? I was worried,” I replied. “Haven’t seen you since that night. Jake said you might be in trouble, Does Jeremy know? Quz he said you’re out of town.”
‘Jake sand what? Are you twa… close? For your sake, I hope not.”
“Where are you?” I asked again, not caring to know what he meant.
Im in LA. Im alright. There’s a massive, fancy bedroom with a f*cking gigantic bathroom.
hotel So yeah, I’m good!
He sounded drunk. Or intiated. Maybe sarcastic.
“Really? is everything okay?
“Yeah, everything’s super, Jane. How did you know this male, man?” He asked.
“the’s helping me, I replied gently.
Helping you with what? Listen to me gurt. You need to stay away from him and all of them, you hear me. They’re nothing but moubi-*
“There,” Jake’s voice was back on the phone. I kept that promise.”

“You said he’ll be okay, Jake,” I snapped.
“You just heard his voice. Does he sound like he’s not okay?”
I was going to speak when he cut me off.
“I have told you, Jane Brown. His fam is taking care of him. Don’t forget what I said regarding worrying about other men, yeah? I’m gonna hang up now. We’ll talk when we see.” 2
Beep.
He was gone. And so was my appetite. Jane Brown? His minion called me Mrs. Carlisle. Guess that answered my question. He didn’t order Donald to address me as the Mrs.
Our agreement had truly kicked off. The phone call was proof. Wiping my mouth, I decided it was time to return to my life. To carry on with my day as usual while awaiting the cure he promised.

I had ignored everybody’s calls all morning, including Sara’s. My phone buzzed again the moment I made my way out of the airport terminal. It was her. Even though taking the call now was safe, I considered letting it go to voicemail for fear that I might spill the beans once I
heard her voice.
How I needed someone to talk to. I needed her. I desperately wished I could share the news
with her.
She started speaking as soon as I slid the answer button.
“Where the hell are you? No one knows where you are. And your mom is freaking out!”
“What? What do you mean? I told her I was on a work assignment,” I said.
“Yeah, and I ran into her at lunch. She thought you’re at work. Everyone at work thinks you’re sick and at home. Do you see the confusion?”
Damn it! I was lying to everybody.
“Did she call the office?” I already knew the answer to that.
“Of course, she called the office. Where the hell are you?”
My mother was a piece of work. I was tired of reminding her that I was a grown woman, allowed to leave the house and go anywhere else other than work. The only reason we still lived together was to save cost. Plus, it was safer for my condition.

The Nasir guy placed my backpack in the backseat and held the door open for me to enter.
“Look, I’ll see you after work. I’ll wait for you at your dad’s,” I said to Sara.
She started to speak when I hung up.
Hours later, I had seen the house Jake wanted me to live in for the duration of the agreement. I had also seen my mom and given her a piece of my mind.
My new temporary home was a stone throw from Rain Resort and Sara’s new home. Which was rather confusing because Jake wanted secrecy.
What exactly was his plan? Though, like Sara’s, it was far from the other town houses. Lots of privacy from the townfolks.
It was almost 6 PM when Sara arrived at her dad’s truck. I had been waiting for ten minutes. She had changed from her work clothes and looked like she was going hiking.
“Where’s the tiger cub?” I asked as she approached.
“He’s home with Janice and the gang. What’s going on? Where did you go?” She asked.
Before I could speak, she went on,
“Look, I know you’re still mad about yesterday.”
What about yesterday? Oh, right, we were supposed to go hunting.
She handed me a fancy paper bag that was heavier than it looked.
“What’s this?” I asked.
“It’s a present. Open it.”
I did. As I pulled out the little gift, I was still confused about how a metal slingshot made up for yesterday. What the hell was I supposed to do with this?
I arched my brow, waiting for her explanation.
She rolled her eyes and said,
“It’s a slingshot, Jane. There’s a hunting knife in there, too. The sun is setting. You and I are going hunting.”
