It was clear that Nick wanted to take my side, but the male was right. The discussion ended only moments ago. No one had forgotten what was said.
Nick watched me with a frown as he asked,
‘Do I know this drunk, half she–wolf?‘
‘I–i don’t know. Maybe you do.‘ At least, that was only half a lie.
The Alpha knew I was hiding something from him, but he merely nodded. I realized he was giving me the chance to hold on to my secret untill I was ready to share it with him.
“He’s right, beta,” he said aloud. “We’re talking about a half–blood in this town. I highly doubt she knows I’m her Alpha. So it’s okay to talk to her, Jet.” He directed his gaze to his in–law.
“It’s okay to make friends and be acquainted with the town.”
Richard seemed to agree with the verdict.
‘If we let him move freely, we’ll soon learn of his ulterior motive, don’t you think?‘
The Chief Gamma was right. Yet the thought of him getting “acquainted” with Jane Brown
made me nauseous.
“Thank you, Alpha,” Jet said.
‘We’ll have people keeping an eye on him, Jake.‘ Nick murmured into my mind. ‘And he’s harmless as far as I can sense it, so don’t worry.”
I nodded at the Alpha as the male walked past me out of the office.
I followed the guards and the two males into the hall. No one seemed to care that I did.
Oak led him one floor below, to the same floor where my sister was staying. It had a series of simple one–bedroom suites designed for guests from the city. My private office was down the
hall.
Jet’s friend, Clove, was escorted to a six–storey building near the security post on the far end of the resort. But I was glad that the main guy was staying close to me.
“Thank you for being so kind to escort me here, beta Jake,” he said sweetly once we reached
his suite.
Without waiting for my response, he added,

“And don’t worry about giving me the girl’s number. I feel like you don’t trust me yet, and I wouldn’t want you to go against your instinct. I’ll find her myself. This is a small town, after all. It can’t be hard. Good night.”
Was he taunting me?
With a smirk on his face, he waved and gently shut the door on our faces.
I knew then and there that this male and I were going to have a serious problem.

An idea struck as I was returning to the Alpha’s office. There was only one way to manage my current dilemma. I had to get to work on that ASAP.
“You didn’t have to follow them, Jake. What did you say to him?” Richard asked when I re- entered the office.
I ignored him. Nick started to rise to leave when Richard’s phone rang. I was grateful for the interruption.
Holding the phone to his ear, he said,
“What’s up!” in his no–nonsense tone.
The words he said next made my heart drop into my stomach.
“A half–blood doing what to whom?” He asked with frown, eyes moving from Nick to me.
The look on his face gave nothing away. He signalled with his hands that he had to take the call outside. It was definitely warrior business, but he’d mentioned half–blood. So my interest was piqued.
It took all of my willpower not to follow him to eavesdrop. Even though his manner didn’t
seem like this was a life and death situation.
I needed to know if the call had anything to do with the female half–blood I was associated with. My wolf’s restlessness was increasing by the second.
“Jake,” the Alpha disrupted my worry.
“I could alpha–command you to tell me what’s going on with you,” he said coolly.
Maybe that was the best thing. I nearly wished he would because how could I open my mouth to say it. That I found my mate and she was more human than werewolf.
The people of Forest Moon were still digesting the fact that their soon–to–be Luna was an

omega. I couldn’t steal Nick’s fame right now by letting anyone know that my case was much
worse.
The beta, fated to a twenty–five year old oblivious, country half–blood.
At that age, she would likely stay human forever. The thought gave me a stomachache and a migraine at the same time.
“I want to,” Nick went on. “But I won’t. I’ll give you a chance to tell me what’s going on when you’re ready.”
I didn’t get the chance to respond as Richard popped his head back inside.
“Guys, I’m sure it’s nothing serious. Two wolves fighting over a girl in the woods. The warriors are handling it,” he said.
“Excuse me for a moment,” I said, brushing past the gamma.
My eyes were ablaze and claws pushing out as I dashed out of the resort.
It didn’t take long to reach the female’s house. I was many yards from her building when I sensed that she was home indeed. Rowan had dropped her off safely. As I came to stand at my usual spot by her bedroom window, I knew that she was awake on her bed.
My shoulders sagged. Whatever was going on in the woods right now had nothing to do with
her.
I turned around and began walking leisurely back to the resort. Today and last night had been the most eventful nights of my life.
I had to get to work on sorting things out with that girl immediately. Nick’s in–law was interested in her. That also needed to be taken care of before anything else.
