Chapter 0172
“So no housewarming party, huh? What a shame?” I grumbled.
That sleepwalker would surely be here if Sara had thrown a party. They were good friends, it seemed.
“Oh Fate, you’re totally right,” she exclaimed. “I can’t believe I didn’t think of that.”
“There’s still time, Sweets,” Nick said. “You only moved in today.”
He frowned and I could tell he was against the idea of a party. Probably because he planned to move them to the city soon.
When we entered the house, the table was already set for dinner. Sebastian whispered
instructions to the maid.
Minutes later, we all sat around the dining, eating a hearty meal of risotto with roasted shrimps and fried chicken. The taste was somewhat nostalgic. With that thought came the recollection that Sara’s father cooked for Nick’s household for many years. As his best friend
since childhood, the mansion was my second home.
The conversation was light and not awkward at all. Sara’s father was quiet most of the time. As the meal was nearing the end, Nick looked at the older male. I caught his voice in the mind realm and was mildly shocked.
Sebastian replied whatever he said with a brief smile as Sara and I watched the two with wide eyes.
“You can hear each other?” Sara beamed. She seemed completely thrilled at the realization.
It was her father who replied.
“Of course, we can. I worked for the first family for more than a decade, Sara. And now, we’re connected through him,” he jerked his gaze towards little Alex. “So yeah, our minds are close enough.”
“That’s good, I guess,” I muttered, digging into my food.
As soon as we finished eating, all I wanted to do was leave. But Nick kept following the girl around like it was remotely possible to get any action tonight.
Hello? Her father was in the house. In fact, he remained fixed in the living room, calling out Sara’s name every ten seconds whenever they both went out of sight. Also, their child was
still wide awake.

Sometime later, the Alpha must’ve figured that there would be no luck tonight. We left the little mansion out of necessity. We still had to go over some things before the night was over. So we headed back to the resort. Richard was already waiting.

It was nearing 11 PM when we finished discussing proper defence for the town and our next
move.
“I’m going out for a brief run,” I announced immediately and started to leave.
“Me, too,” Nick said. I knew where he was headed. Apparently, he still had hope of hooking up with his mate tonight.
Richard also joined us. When all three of us entered the woods, we went in separate.
directions.
I meant to race past Jane Brown’s house. But sensing her as I came near, it was hard not to
stop.
She was asleep, no doubt. The heavy drapes on her window were fully drawn, unlike last night. I could feel her walking around the little room.
At least, they didn’t forget to lock her door from the outside tonight. Good.
‘You have no reason to be here,‘ I said to my wolf. ‘Not till you figure out what to do.‘
She stopped walking. I expected her to lie back down. On the floor or back on her bed. But she started walking again. This time, towards her window. Within seconds, she stood behind the drapes.
My heart began pounding fiercely.
As she pushed the curtain aside, I gasped,
‘Shit.‘
Seconds later, she was pushing open the window and sticking one foot through it.
‘Shit!‘ I cursed again, standing rigid and unable to move.
‘What the hell?‘
In her pajamas, the girl gracefully climbed out of the window and landed with a thud.
Good, that should do it. That should wake her up.

But it didn’t. She remained on the floor for a few long moments, rubbing her hands on the wet sand and grass. Then she rose and started to come towards me.
‘No. Shit!‘ I breathed. ‘What do I do? What do I do?‘
I was at a loss and starting to go into panic mode when, instead of coming to me like I feared and hoped, she diverged, walking past me.
