Chapter 0167
His laugh drifted into my heart as he spoke again.
“When we’re alone later, I’ll let you practice what you last read on me.”
“Thanks for your kindness,” I joked shyly. “I guess I ought to.”
“Oh, you must, Sweetness. I’ll teach you plenty of stuff, too.”
Can’t wait to learn. I was a little shy to say this to him, but I suspected he could tell from the sound of my voice.
“So what’ll happen to the… ah interloper? What will you do to her?”
“She’ll suffer the same consequence as a trespasser… or interloper, as you called it. Her punishment would be much greater if she’d physically attacked you.”
“What’s the consequence?”
“That’s Richard’s domain. He’s handling it. I don’t want you worrying about anything. So you’re not working at the site today, I hear.”
Changing the subject, huh. I decided now was not the best time to learn about the pack’s justice system. I already knew some of its basic laws.
“Yeah, I’m at the office. In fact, I’ve overstayed my break time. I’m heading back inside as we speak. Also, Jake is here, how come?”
I was a little surprised as the beta emerged from our office building with his little sister. As they approached, his eyes were on Jane, who was now talking with her mother some yards
away.
Did she spot us while passing by? Maybe she stopped to check on her daughter because of yesterday’s sleepwalking episode.
“Aylin is joining the project team,” Nick explained. “She’s replacing Miss Deere. Jake insisted on introducing her to Jeremy by himself.”
“Oh I see.”
A desk phone rang in the background. I knew our brief chat was over for now.
“I’ll let you get back to work,” he said. “We’ll talk before I see you later.”
Once we hung up, Jake stood in front of me, glancing around now and then to stare at Jane.

“Don’t even think about it!” I warned him.
“What?” He asked.

“You know what. She’s off limits!” I pointed a warning finger at him.
“I’ll just let her speak for herself,” he replied in an irritated tone.
Aylin turned around, trying to figure out who we were talking about. But Lori and Zira stood a few feet away. She couldn’t tell who of the three her brother was staring at with such lust.
“How’s Misha?” I asked with an arched brow.
“She’s alright, I guess. Why? What’s up?” He replied with an attitude.
“Listen, why don’t you ask what I’m doing here instead? I promise you’ll find that’s more your business than my wayward eyes.”
Ever the rude jerk, huh.
“I know what you’re doing here, Jake. And don’t forget, you can’t be mean to me anymore,” I replied, reminding him of his own words last night.
“Oh sure, young Luna,” he said with a brief laugh.
“Aylin, you already know Sara James. She’s part of the team you’ll interface with. And she’ll be
your Luna soon.”
The female offered her hand like we were meeting for the first time. What, was she trying to repair my impressions of her? Even though she was two years my junior, I always knew her as one of the pack‘ s bullies. I was never at the other end of her attacks. But other omega kids her age wouldn’t say the same.
I took the hand she offered as she started to speak.
“Nice to officially meet you, Sara James. I hope we leave the past in the past and get along.” Her smile was friendly.
“I must state that I’m no longer crushing on the Alpha. I’m ashamed of my past behaviour and…”
She trailed off. I couldn’t tell if it was due to the confused frown on my face or the fact that her brother let out a frustrated sigh, covering his face with one hand.
“Oh, she doesn’t know?” She asked wide–eyed.
“He didn’t tell her, great! Forget I said anything. Nice to meet you, Sara James,”

“Didn’t tell me what?” I asked.
“It’s nothing. All in the past now. Don’t worry about it. See you around.”
As she turned around to hurry away, she bumped into Avery, whose hands swiftly went to her arms to steady her.
At the same time, Jake turned away, muttering,
“See you around, young Luna Reign.”
