“Hey, why’s Kylie Jenner over there looking at us? Actually, she’s looking at you?”
“Kylie who? Should I turn and look?” I asked jokingly.
I knew she was referring to the new arrivals. She definitely was not feeling alright. Last night
must’ve been hard on her.
As she gave me a dirty look and gestured for me to go ahead, I turned around to find the elite female glaring at me.
“She looks nothing like the singer, Jane. I’ve been meaning to tell you all morning. You’re grumpy. Tell me what happened last night. We have what, fifteen minutes left of lunchtime.”
She sighed in exasperation.
“Kylie Jenner’s not a sing…” She trailed off, clenching her lips. “Forget it. You don’t watch TV. I forgot.
Last night was the same. Sleep walking. Nightmares.”
She shook her head before quickly changing the subject.
“I feel bad for sergeant Hawke.”
“Why? You said my Nick’s so hot, remember?”
“Yeah, but Avery’s a good guy. I thought you already made your choice.”
“Nick and I are…” I couldn’t find the proper term.
Jane was much more human than werewolf. It was doubtful that she’d understand what I had
with the Alpha. How I yearned for him. Even right now.
The fact that he was not in town this moment made me feel incomplete. Only one night, and I was beginning to learn that my home was indeed wherever the Alpha took me. I couldn’t wait to see him.
There was comfort in the fact that I could not only pick up my phone to call him anytime, but I could go to him whenever I pleased. All I had to do was say the word. A jet would be waiting to take me to him.
“Nick and you are… WHAT? Alex’s mommy and daddy?” Jane snapped.
“That we are, Janet Brown,” I sang. “And much more.”

“You see, I know you have more to say. But you wouldn’t open your mouth because you’re annoying and cagey.”
If she only knew how much I wanted to tell her all about the past week. Hell, the past FOUR years when I lived in the Forest Moon. My story seemed so very interesting and romantic now that I knew what the Alpha felt for me all along.
I really wanted to share the tale with a friend. With her.
When Megan and I were bestfriends, I could never talk about Nick. All we talked about were other boys and girls our age. We had our fantasies about finding a mate. I couldn’t share it with her when I got together with Nick because of the contract. Or more accurately, because of the circumstances.
But Nick and I were public now. Yet it was impossible to share the entire story with a human. Or a half–blood who had no concept of her wolf side.
As Jane bit into her tacos, scowling at me, I found myself tempted.
How would she react if she learned about werewolves and our ways. Her mother would rage for sure. My dad would not be pleased.
“It’s not your place to tell her, Sara. Her mother has her reasons for raising her like that. Probably the same reason most omegas choose to live as humans.”
I looked away from her as my father’s words resounded in my head.
“I don’t even know why we’re friends,” Jane muttered.
‘Because your dormant wolf side is drawn to her kind, silly!‘
“Maybe someday you’ll understand why I couldn’t tell you everything. When that day comes, I’ll spill all. From the beginning,” I said.
“Till then, be happy we’re friends, alright.”
“Maybe I’ll seduce Avery,” she blurted, watching me carefully. “He’s hot too. And single now.”
‘And you’re feeling lost and angry for some reason, so bad idea.‘
“You can go for it,” I smiled gently.
“But you’ll exhaust yourself. He’s not into you at all.”
