The older male’s took a deep breath like he was willing himself to calm down. His eyes, which had started to glint, went back to normal.
“Alpha Nick,” he said. “You and my daughter were together during the period your pup was conceived. That is an insult to my household. To the people of the Night Storm.”
“That doesn’t answer my question, Lazarus,” I said.
“I’m here to reason with you. Words are floating around that Forest Moon got “their young Luna at last.”
He tightened his lips, taking a deep breath before speaking again.
“I don’t want to assume anything. I just need to confirm that it’s my daughter. If not, I’d like to know the noble female that’s about to be your Luna. It’s not the commoner you called your female, is it?”
“You’ll need to mind how you speak of her, Alpha Lazarus,” I warned in a calm tone.
He poured the last of his drinks down his throat. Briefly pointing a warning finger at me, he said,
“You have shamed my household. My pack. The only way to lessen the insult is if we join hands.”
I frowned, unsure what he was about to propose.
“You want to keep your omega? No problem. You can do that. My daughter doesn’t even have to know that she’s still in the picture. It’ll be between us two. Hide your girl wherever you want. In Africa, Europe, don’t even tell me where she is. Visit as often as want… or whatever-”
“Let me help you save your breath and my time,” I cut him off.
“My mate, the she–wolf you met at the lobby? She’s the rumored young Luna! Our mating ceremony is soon. I’d send you an invitation, but I’m guessing you don’t want to be invited.”
“Have you no regard for our friendship?” His eyes began to shine again.
“I’m willing to repair the rift between us, but you will refuse?”
“I wasn’t aware of any rift till you insulted my sacred bond with that female. But if your idea of repairing friendship is forcing your daughter on me, I say let that rift widen. Let it turn into a total divide!”

I paused and stepped back.
If looks could kill, the one on his face was pure, painful death. I wished he would make a move but knew he couldn’t. It would be suicide for him and his pack if he did.
His gamma approached. I could feel him talking through the link. Most likely reminding his alpha of where they stood.
“Your father and I made this arrangement long ago. The elders on both sides bear witness,”
he seethed.
“The elders are also witnesses to the fact that the engagement didn’t work out. Let me also add that my father had no idea that a fated bond was in my destiny. Too bad he isn’t here to apologize for the error.”
“The Night Storm will not forget this affront, kid,” he said.
“Neither will the Forest Moon. The flippant manner with which you addressed my mate and Luna? I will remember always.
Now, out of respect for my father and for old time sake, I’ll allow you the time to pack. You have one hour to leave this town, Alpha Lazarus. You and yours are not welcome in my territories from hence.”
He grunted in fury. I could feel him restraining himself. How I wished his control would slip. It would make things so much easier for everyone if he attacked now.
I lingered for a few minutes till I was convinced he wouldn’t throw the first punch in here. The stench of his rage filled the entire room as I began to walk away.
“You’ve made a mistake, kid,” he called out.
“One hour,” I reminded him before shutting the door.

My mother was waiting by the stairs with Jake. She began her lament the moment I joined them.
“I can’t believe you let Sara leave the city after marking her. What the bloody hell is wrong with you?”
She seemed truly frustrated.
“You shouldn’t be here, Senior Luna Reign,” I drawled.

“I can be wherever the hell I want! I can come and go as I please.”
“Should I make it so you can’t?” I asked gently.
Fear flashed in her eyes but she hid it quickly.
“You wouldn’t. I have family here too,” she retorted.
