Chapter 0156
Avery Hawke
Avery left his waiting point and returned to the place where he’d found the spare clothes earlier. The truth was he knew they belonged to the Alpha. The scent was distinct and impossible to miss. But he hadn’t been thinking, so he hadn’t dwelt on that little detail. All of his thoughts had been on the girl.
He’d been too dazed to go after her soon enough when she ran off. Regaining his senses moments later, he’d chased after her. Nick’s “backyard” was the direction she came. But
she’d vanished out of sight before he got near.
Entering the lobby to ask to see her was an option he considered. He knew her first name and could easily guess the last. But it was the middle of the night. Running into Elise was the last thing he wanted. The senior Luna was in there.
Her precious son kicked her out, but apparently, she was allowed to visit the little town.
Why was she still spying on him anyway? He meant to ask her soon, though not tonight.
But Goddess, why me? Why won’t you leave me the f*ck alone!
How could he, Avery Hawke, have a fated female? Not just anyone. A Forest Mooner. Like that wasn’t bad enough, she was not an ordinary pack member but someone close to the First family?
How could the Goddess do this to him on top of everything else? This was proof that Fate was out to get him. But no worries.
There was still time. The moon hung high and full overhead. All he needed to do was get to the girl. Drag her out here. And untangled himself from the f*cking chains in his heart before the night was over.
He was not having this. Never!
Oh, if only he hadn’t lost his mind for a moment there. He would have recited the magic words. Initiate the rejection and end it as soon as his heart sounded that dreadful click. He. desperately wanted to get on with his night in peace.
He should be prowling the woods. Who knows? Maybe he’d get lucky and come upon a willing fernale. Get laid like other fortunate werewolves out there.
Instead, he was here, trying to sneak into the precious one’s hotel building. How he hated that he was losing moonlight. Dawn always came fast on nights like these.

As he came near the “backyard,” he looked around and noted the strange piercings on the trees. He’d seen those marks earlier but didn’t pay them any mind. They reminded him of the No Tresspassing signs humans put on private properties. Nick made those marks himself for
sure.
Soon, he spotted the narrow path leading east. It looked like a tunnel made from leaves. He
bet the path led to the resort.
Goddess, his worries just kept piling up, didn’t it? He was dealing with learning about his mother and losing Sara. Now, the Fate had to add a girl to his drama?
This mate bond rubbish will end tonight, he vowed.
Finding her room shouldn’t be hard once he got inside the building. They were bonded, so he
would believe that.
The beta. Another fool to worry about running into. He hated that one as much as he hated Nick. Two pompous pricks.
Continuing through the narrow path, he soon emerged in front of a tall barbed wire fence. From there, he could see the big lake and the cabins near it.
The tall building with the penthouse sat proudly in the distance.
As he grabbed the barbed wire to begin the climb, a sharp burn made him pull away so fast he almost lost his footing. He felt the searing pain down to his bones.
“Raw silver, huh. Shit!” He breathed.
The girl had gone through this place. He was sure of it. Where did she pass? When he looked around again, he decided there was no other route inside but here.
So he began testing the wires, letting his fingers touch it as he searched for any part that wasn’t made of the poison silver ore. His hands burned and healed as he did.
Minutes later, the distant sound of an alarm made him curse. He knew he’d triggered it with
all the touching somehow.
“Shit!”
Getting inside through this route wasn’t going to work out, huh. It was time to go.
To get caught and locked up by Nick and his cronies again? That wasn’t happening.
Heaving a deep, frustrated sigh, he turned around and entered the leafy tunnel.

Nick POV

I didn’t drive to the resort after the encounter with that alleged spy. Running was as quick as my car on such short distance and a full moon night like this one.
The smell of rain filled the air as the cloud began to thicken, covering the moon. But the forest remained as bright and inviting as ever.
As I came near my private entrance, the nearby barking and growling disturbed the sound of the night around me.
