Chapter 0152
Sara POV
Avery’s eyes were on us as Nick began to slow the car.
N
“Nick, I don’t think he’s following us. Maybe he’s here to see the Luna,” I said.
“And why the hell is he wearing my clothes?”
He stopped the car with Avery only a few yards away.
How could the sergeant possibly lay hands on his clothes. Why? Nick had to be mistaken.
Except maybe he found it in the woods? Yeah, that was more reasonable explanation. The Alpha may have discarded that when he went for a run.
Nick was speaking into the sergeant’s mind and I knew they weren’t friendly words. I watched the two, noting the resemblance that I hadn’t seen before.
The cheek bone, the curve of their jaws, and even that unmistakable proud manner of standing or walking. The two were definitely similar in these aspects. Or maybe I saw these things because I’d learned that they were brothers. It was still hard to believe though.
Avery looked down at the light piece of clothing he wore and shrugged.
“Finders keepers,” he said aloud, then greeted,
“Hello, Sara.” I noted that there was no bitterness in his tone.
“Hi,” I replied with a wave. “What are you doing here?”
“Waiting for someone,” he said simply.
It had to be his mother. Maybe they would work things out and get to know to each other.
My own mother died before I could memorize her face. I only had my dad and couldn’t imagine him being alive and not part of my life.
Nick was still talking to him through the mindlink. I was curious about what he was saying.
“This is a resort for the public, Nickolas,” Avery said aloud.
“It’s not your private home or club. I don’t have to explain why I’m here. You’re not my Alpha, so move the f*ck along!”
Nick looked like he would leave the car and go to him, but I held his arm.

“Let’s go, Nick, please,” I said.
As he gave a bitter smile, Avery did the same, resting one hand on his hip. It felt like he was determined to prove that he was not afraid of the Alpha.
“Hold that thought, yeah?” Nick said to him. “I’ll see you again. Soon. Rowan!”
As he zoomed off, I waved at Avery again and he waved back.
“He loves to be in the woods at nights like these,” I breathed.
“You know that much about him, huh?” Nick’s harsh tone was somewhat surprising.
I’d almost forgotten that he knew our history. The fact that the sergeant and I had a history was a fading memory now.
“Every wolf knows that much about half–bloods, Alpha. They take advantage of nights like these to be as wild as they want.”
“Ah! Still doesn’t explain how he got to my backyard. Or what the hell he was doing there?
Wolves like him avoid that side of the woods because of me.”
“Your backyard? Where’s that?”
“I’ll take you there tomorrow night. I’ll show you my secret door back to the resort when I go running. The sergeant was there. It’s the only place he could’ve picked up those clothes.”
“I think he’s here to see your mother,” I said again.
Nick did not comment on that. He didn’t want to talk about it. Didn’t want to deal with the fact that he had a little brother. Or maybe he was dealing with it in his own way.
“So you and Alex would come back to the resort tomorrow, right?” he asked.
“Why? There’s nothing wrong with our house,” I joked.
“Except the penthouse is much bigger and safer while we prepare for the mating ceremony.”
“I wonder if there’ll be a mating ceremony,” I said under my breath.
“What does that mean?” There was a hint of anxiety in his voice.
“Nick, I know that Alpha of the Night Storm is here because of me. I can’t help but expect your other two exes to show up too and try to threaten me to back off.”
There. I ruined the evening. I was not going to keep those worries to myself.

“They don’t count as exes, Sara. We had a few dinner dates that led nowhere. Also the other two are pack members, so what you worry about is not even gonna happen.
As for that old Alpha, when I get back, I’ll settle things with him. Please don’t worry about any of that. Just think about picking a date and venue for our mating rites.” He took my hand.
I wanted to ask how he knew for sure that the other two wouldn’t show up as well. But pressing further would make him think I was scared. I was not. In fact, maybe it would be fun if they did. I would have the opportunity to show–off the Alpha’s mark to that blonde. I had a
claim to him now.
My whining was a result of the fact that he got hitched so soon after we broke up.
I would tell him this if I didn’t already feel silly thinking about it. I knew he used to live in a different world. And it was often said that no Alpha or heir was single.
A female of similar breed was immediately arranged to them as soon as they came of age and shifted for the first time. It didn’t matter whether they found a fated mate or not. Except the mate was of the same social class.
“I could arrange to get you both back here tonight,” he said.
I had to laugh.
“I can’t move in with you tonight, Nick. I doubt my dad would approve of living together before the ceremony. And I would like to let him have that, at least. You know. Staying home till he gives me away. I already disappointed him, getting pregnant out of mate–luck.”
“I get it, but this is for safety,” Nick replied with a quick glance my way.
“Your warriors are my neighbours now. They take turns at my living room couch every night since I returned with your mark. We feel quite safe, Nick. Don’t worry,” I remarked.
I hadn’t complained about that because I understood that tighter security was necessary. Reasons being that I had been to the pack. Some saw me inside his bed chamber. The whole pack knew about us now.
“I just want you two close to me. And comfortable. I’ll talk to Sebastian. If not the resort, you three can stay in the new house. Remember Alex’s mini mansion? I mentioned it when you were moving out.”
“Yeah, I remember. I didn’t think you were serious,” I said.
“It’s ready. And it’s not far from the resort.”
“I don’t even know what my dad thinks about you and me yet,” I thought aloud.

Frankly, I was still slightly worried about that too.
“I’ll grow on him. Don’t worry,” Nick said confidently.
