Chapter 0146

Avery Hawke

I said I’m fine, Uncle Jerry.”

And I hear you. It’s a pleasant night for a good run, don’t you think? I want us to go together like old times.”

Wrong. Jeremy Colt was worried and wanted to keep an eye on him

Avery decided to pretend the older male wasn’t there. He vowed to lose him soon enough because he really wanted to be alone in the wild

As they entered the woods, he started to undo his buttons to shift when his senses caught

something

His uncle must’ve seen them too because he moved and stood in front of him, attempting to block his view. Too late. He already caught the two unmistakable figures in the distance

Avery watched as Nick led Sara James by the hand. They were heading out of the woods. Sebastian was a few feet behind the two, hands in his pocket

The Alpha had a foolish smile on his face. Not the fake, mocking type he’d seen a few times. In fact, he seemed different tonight. They both did. Maybe because he’d never seen the bastard smile before

The b word made him want to laugh at himself. He, Avery, was the bastard. He was the child

who should never have been born

Nick must’ve sensed him because he turned towards his direction and their eyes met

Are you alright?Uncle Jeremy asked him gently

Avery had grown sick and tired of that question. Pretending he didn’t hear, he shifted and dove into the woods while Nick’s eyes were still on him

The two looked happy. They looked like they would do all sorts of fun things tonight. It was a full moon night, after all. Good for them, he thought as he raced on

He and Sara were never meant to be. He should have accepted that fact when she kept blowing him off. He guessed the price for not doing so was all the trouble and overwhelming emotions he’d had to deal with this past week

Add to that, the town folks knew it didn’t work out. They knew Alex’s father. He’d heard their irritating gossip

Poor sergeant Hawke didn’t stand a chance, c’mon.”

As if that wasn’t bad enough, they pitied him? What was there to pity? It didn’t work out. Simple. Their annoying stares and silly commentaries made him want to leave the town

But leaving would only worsen the gossip. Poor sergeant Hawke had to go mend his broken

heart somewhere

The worst part was that Nick may think he was getting away from the pack

Avery was aware that this little town now belonged to the fool. The place was Forest Moon’s Annexe now, no doubt. The heir lived here. Although he suspected that was about to change

Their warriors were everywhere. He’d also spotted two older males near the site yesterday. When the park was completed, more of his people would flood the town

Avery pushed all of those useless thoughts off his head as he raced deeper into the night. A few other creatures of the moon were out, too. He could sense them. Could feel the frenzy in the air and the unmistakable scent of mating

It felt like he’d been waiting for ages to run in the wild like this. At times like these, he wished

he could shift whenever he wanted

But as a halfblood, he only got three nights during the full moon. He was already excited for tomorrow night

As he increased his pace, the roaring wind removed all the events of the past week from his head. His uncle was far behind him now, which was great

. He was not Avery or Rowan at that moment. Neither was he the child born out of an

erroneous affair. He was a beast in the wild

A massive, dark brown lone wolf, racing under the full moon

For years

he’d fantasised about learning of his mother. He’d only needed to find her because he wanted to know who killed his father. In his head, he had avenged his father in many different ways
