The full moon was a few days from now. The air was filled with the usual excitement. Mingled with it was the anticipation for what I had to say to my people.
With Claris‘ help, Janice had dressed Alex like a little Alpha prince. Forest Moon’s imperial badge was pinned above his left breast.
Taking my son’s hand in mine, I led him into the pack’s large conference house. Members were already gathered.
All the whispers and mindlinking stopped when we entered. Everyone’s attention turned to us.
I could sense a few disapproval. A child out of mate–luck was reproachful. Unbecoming of the head of an acclaimed pack. Different feelings floated about. It was the same as when I took him to Reign Towers earlier.
All twenty–four noble werewolves with their mates were present. They gave the customary
bow before sitting down.
“I’m sure you all know why I called you here this night of the waxing moon,” I began.
“You’ve heard the rumors. Some of you already saw him at the Tower. Here’s an official introduction.”
I made Alex stand in front of me, my hands resting on his shoulders.
“People of the Forest Moon, meet Alexander Reign. My first born. Heir to Reigns group and future Alpha of this pack.
Alex, say hello. These are your people from this day hence.”
His eyes moved around the group. He gave his signature friendly smile and waved,
“Hello, everyone.”
Claps and howls erupted all around. I fought to hide my surprise. Maybe I failed.
There were some reservations and judgements though. I could sense it. But they were not about the “illegitimate” pup.
Once the clapping and the howling was done, I said,
“Any questions?”

“Alpha, if I may,” a middle–aged female raised her hand.
I nodded for her to go on.
“The boy is all over the news, so we all saw. We also heard tales from the mansion about his mother? Your fated mate?”
As she said the last bit, shocked gasps echoed in the room.
Not all of them heard about Sara before now, huh?
Everyone was staring at me, waiting for me to speak, which was confusing.
“What is the question, Zoe Wallace?” I snapped.
“l–i mean…” she stuttered.
Her mate, Zach, decided to help.
“She means can you confirm the tales, Alpha? Did you find your fated mate? If so, is she the mother of the pup? What household or pack does she belong to?”
As he spoke, I caught the distinctly familiar scent by the door and turned around.
Why was my mother still here? I shot Jake a look.
‘She said she had to be here for this. She’ll leave after this meeting,‘ he explained.
I breathed a deep sigh before speaking.
“To answer your questions, Zach, Yes, I found my mate. Yes, she’s the mother. She’s from the house of James, who fathered Sebastian.”
The whispers resumed. The chief looked like he wanted to leave the room.
“Silence,” I ordered calmly.
Once all quiet, I asked,
“Any more question?”
“Alpha, our stock prices have dropped. Do you think it has something to do with the little one’s sudden appearance? A child when no one knows your mate?”
How silly!
“No, I don’t think so. Prices rise and fall, Jonah. One last question.” I lifted my index finger.

“That’s three questions, Rufus! But let me see if I understand you. Are you saying that the female chosen for me by the Fate is unclean?”
His mouth fell open as everyone grew still. The Chief seemed more intrigued than uncomfortable now.
“Do you imply that our great Goddess is incompetent?” I asked.
“Of–f course not, Alpha. But to raise a lowly omega j–just like that. I mean we have daughters more eligible all around. We have customs. You should be mated to-”
“More eligible?” I cut him off “Careful, Rufus, those words bother on blasphemy.
Goddess did not bind me to one of your eligible daughters. She bound me to Sara James.
And how dare you call her lowly? She is a female, hand–picked by the Fate to be your Alpha’s lifelong companion. That fact exalts her above all of your “eligible daughters,” you hear me!”
Everyone lowered their heads. When I glanced my mother’s way, her eyes had grown soft. I wished I knew what was going on in her mind.
“Sara is not a common soul,” I went on. “She’s fierce and strong despite her softness. She’s warm and full of love. Your Alpha’s mate! The mother of my child. She will be Forest Moon’s young Luna once I convince her to forgive my past cowardice.”
I breathed, taking the time to scan the vast room. There were a mix of feelings floating around now. Indifference. Genuine happiness that the pack was finally getting its young Luna. A fated one at that.
Then there was bitterness. Some still couldn’t accept an omega rising above them.
“Anyone who has a problem with this should take it up with Goddess.
Also, I should say this before we leave here. If any of you or your relatives bother my mate and her family, I will not forgive!”
