‘Tell him to release him, Nick,‘ I pleaded silently.
‘He was going to attack me. That could get him killed here, Sara,‘ he replied.
‘Tell him to release him,’ I repeated.
He gave Richard a look, who immediately stood up.
Avery forced himself to rise. I could tell he was afraid yet determined.
“Why did you come out here? Do you know how dangerous it is?” I asked him.
But he was staring at Nick. When I glanced around again, Nick had the sergeant pinned with
a death stare. An odd sound, muffled sound floated in my mind.
Were they mindlinking? A half–blood with an Alpha? How was that even possible? Maybe I was mistaken.
I brushed the ridiculous suspicion aside and asked him,
“Are you alright?”
‘Sara, it’s over between you and him. You know that as well he does,’ Nick whispered.
That was true but irrelevant. I ignored him.
“You shouldn’t have come here, Avery.”
“I came to burst you out,” he replied. “You’re here against your will, aren’t you? He forced that on you, right?”
The anger and pain his eyes made me wish I hadn’t dragged him into my mess.
“Tell me.”
“Something happened to me, Avv. I’ll explain it once we get back to town,” I replied gently.
“Good. You’re not here permanently then,” he said as his attention wavered.
I followed his eyes and saw Jake dragging his sister by the arm through the side entrance.
Mae stood near the Luna, waiting for orders.
Nick held Alex’s hand as they both watched me and the sergeant. The latter’s jaw was pressed tight like his other fist.

‘We have to talk in private, Nick. We’ll be over there at that garden,‘ I said.
“I told you to avoid Elise,” Avery said, pulling my focus from the Alpha.
“Something happened to me,” I replied.
“Seriously? You’re going to explain yourself to him,” Nick asked aloud.
“You owe him nothing, Sara. He’s the one treading where he shouldn’t. His mother agrees and she warned him to leave you alone.”
“What?” I asked, confused.
Both males grew oddly silent. They both watched each other, eyes shining with anger.
“Your mother? You found her?” I was shocked and somewhat happy for him.
“I don’t have a mother, Sara. But yeah, I recently met the female who gave birth to me,” he replied.
His eyes never left the Alpha’s.
“And Nick knows her? Wow,” I whispered, but it was useless.
Everyone standing around were nobles with kin senses. They all heard the question.
What a small world. I secretly hoped she was not a member of Nick’s pack. That would be too tough on the sergeant.
I looked around again before speaking to Nick.
‘I have to talk to him alone.‘
‘But you owe him nothing,‘ he complained, then gave his mother an evil look.
‘I owe you nothing too.‘
‘Maybe not, but he does. He’s an unwanted guest in my home, Sara.‘
‘We’ll stand over there.‘ I motioned with my eyes to the garden close by.
“Come on,” I said to Avery. “Let’s talk over there.”
He looked like he would refuse, but followed me as I started to lead the way.
Moments later, we stood surrounded by different colors of roses and lady’s mantle. The fragrance was nostalgic.

It took me back to a time when all I worried about was getting caught plucking these flowers. The garden smelled of my former home. Of a time when I laid in bed, daydreaming about the Alpha’s son.
“I knew you had your issues too,” I began speaking. “But I told myself that you would share it with me when you were ready.
And I won’t lie it’s been hard to focus on anything else but my family issues this past month. I can’t believe you found your mother.”
“She’s not my mother!”
I nodded.
“Please, tell me she’s not a Forest Mooner.”
He gave a bitter laugh that made my heart sank.
“Oh Goddess,” I muttered.
“It doesn’t matter, Sara. I’m not here to see dear old mommy Reign, alright? I came to get you out of here.”
“What did you just say?”
“Yeah,” he nodded. “Luna Reign. That’s the female who gave birth to me. Now, can we get back to why I’m here, please?
This mark on your neck. He forced you, didn’t he?”
“Fate,” I breathed, trying to process what he had just told me.
He swallowed and took a deep breath.
“Luna Reign? So you’re what, brothers with the Alpha? Fate. But how?”
His eyes dropped. “I don’t have a brother. My only family is Uncle Jay.”
I ignored the denial and went on,
“I had no idea. How’s it even possible? You’re like… same age. Well, one year gap. But how long have you two known about this? Why didn’t you tell me? And you always ask me to let you in. Oh Fate-”
“Listen, could you be shocked about this later? And stop calling the Fate. This is all her fault!” He said irritatingly.
