Chapter 0131
Avery Hawke
As the Alpha entered their midst, Avery couldn’t help but wonder for the second time – Why did he feel much more familiar in this territory than in the small town?
Richard Wolfe, his Chief Warrior, was with him. The male whose fist was responsible for shifting Avery’s left cheek out of place. That bruise would take another day to heal.
I’ll get revenge for that, he assured himself.
He soon redirected his focus to Nick and caught the recognition on his face.
He knows. Are things about to get interesting or not?
‘Well, well,‘ Nick murmured into his mind.
‘My little bastard brother and his mommy, having a heart to heart. And he can hear my mind, which means we really are kin, huh?‘
The last remark didn’t sound mocking. Avery wondered for a moment if he meant him hear it.
The Chief Gamma gave the guard a look, who then bowed and turned around, departing from
the cell.
Nick began to speak out loud.
“Did your mommy give you my message yet?”
“Let me out of here!” Avery said, stepping forward to grab the bars.
He’d had time to think and had concluded that it was unwise to add “take me to Sara” to that
demand. Not in front of Nick, at least.
Only a few feet and the thick iron bars separated him from the Alpha now. He vaguely noted the strange feelings coursing through him as their eyes held. Reverence. Intimidation. A mild.
fear.
These feelings were the reason people submitted to Alphas, huh?
As someone who had never been part of a pack, these sentiments towards a man around the same age were a new thing. Uncomfortable too.
‘Male. Not man. There’s nothing human about this one.‘
He oozed so much irresistible, raw power. The wolf in Avery wanted nothing but to step back

and lower his head in respect. But never.
‘He’s NOT my Alpha. I hate him!”
There were reasons for the hate. They were once children, and he was the precious son. The one that could never be abandoned.
Now they were grown men, and he was still the same. The one that would not be abandoned.
Traces of Sara’s scent still wafted from him.
“Hey. Hello,” the Alpha called, snapping his fingers. “Did you go deaf?
“Your mommy didn’t give you my message, did she?” He stepped closer. Avery fought the urge to move back.
“Alpha,” the Luna called.
“She hasn’t told you what people like us do to people like you if you come after our family?” He asked, ignoring his mother.
Avery wanted to yell that Sara was not his family, but his lips wouldn’t move.
“I see she hasn’t taught you anything. Of course. You couldn’t even sit on your own when she dumped you with the sad hooman and returned to her REAL family. To me. And my father!
I can’t expect you to know basic things like don’t f*ck around another man’s home.”
He stepped back, eyes moving from the Luna back to the cell.
“But you see, I’m a good person. As a kind big brother, I’ll teach you a proper lesson if you ever think to go anywhere near my mate again.”
My mate? Those two words triggered Avery’s anger, which stirred his courage. He banged his fist on the bars and screamed,
“She’s not yours!”
The Gamma approached quickly as Elise rushed to stand in his way.
“Richard!” She held out both hands to stop him from coming nearer.
“He’s new to all of this. I’ll make him understand,” she pleaded.
Nick gave a bitter laugh. “Well, look at that. So fucking motherly.”
He then pointed a warning finger at the Luna as he went on,

“You do that quick, yeah? Cuz Jake’s guys are helping you pack. You’re leaving the Forest Moon. Your daughter could use your help.”
“What do you mean?” The Luna asked, her voice unsteady. “You’re kicking me out?”
Avery never thought the Luna capable of any feeling. He was shocked by how hurt and scared she looked at that instant.
“No, mother,” the Alpha said in a surprisingly soft tone.
“But after all that’s happened and with him around, you can’t be near the pack for now, don’t you think? Also, Lily needs you. She’s very pregnant now.”
“We both know these are excuses. Why don’t you say your real reason for sending me away, huh?”
The Alpha merely gave her a half smile and turned away. Richard followed him, but not before shooting Avery a warning look.

The Luna’s earlier words echoed in Avery’s head as he watched the Alpha’s retreating figure.
“I made a mistake. They’re fated. You have to stay far away from that omega or he’ll really hurt you, Rowan, I mean it.”
He glanced at the older she–wolf and looked away. For the first time since he met her, she was not the composed and proper elite female.
She looked lost and forlorn. Something tugged at his heart.
When she huffed and turned to face him, he quickly straightened, making sure his face was without expression.
“I’ll get you out of here, Rowan,” she said. “Judging from that silly speech, I doubt he plans on keeping you here for long. But I’ll get that key. And when this door is unlocked, you have to leave here straight for the airport. I’ll have someone drive you. Like I told you, she was never yours. She’s bound to-”
