Avery had spoken to Sebastian before he got on the plane. Apparently, the old male received a note from the Luna and planned to fly there if he didn’t hear from Sara within a day.
Did Sara have that time? He claimed there would be some ceremonious cleansing before she’s presented to the Alpha.
Presented to the Alpha? How sick!
“Nick wouldn’t do anything he hadn’t already done to her except…”
He hadn’t finished the sentence. Instead, he’d pursed his lips in anger.
Except what?
Avery had not thought of that word until he stood face to face with Nick and caught the girl’s
scent all over him.
He gritted his teeth again as he recalled that encounter.
He had been sitting in this cave–like prison, pondering on that single word except when the Luna first showed up.
It was clear that the precious son didn’t tell her that he was being held.
No one told her that he’d been out yelling her name and Sara’s since the middle of the night. 4 AM was nighttime as far as he was concerned.
If she didn’t know, it meant the Alpha likely gave specific orders not to tell her. Did that mean they weren’t working together?
The Luna had come and gone from the cell many times since sunrise. She hadn’t come down here or said a single word to him.
Instead, she would bark at the guard to open the gates. When he told her he didn’t have the key, she left.
Again and again. Like a retard.
Avery was glad she wasn’t talking to him. It was her fault that he was sitting here in this cold, muddy prison below the ground.
As the time passed, he started to rethink this “rescue Sara” project. If the Luna couldn’t get to the keys, what hope did he have? He should’ve thought things through before setting out.

Should’ve listened to Sebastian and waited.
As if that was even possible? Sara was his girlfriend and she was in trouble. He couldn’t sit by and do nothing. Well, according to the Luna, she belonged to her precious son. “Was gifted to him by higher Forces.”
Goddess, he wanted to claw at something! The Alpha’s face.
I’ll probably die here, Avery thought.
That was the reasonable conclusion judging from the look on Nick’s face when he boldly screamed “she’s not yours.”
In a few days, when the moon reached its full cycle, he would be able to shift. With the strength, he could break out of here. A few days was a long time. Nick could have him killed. before then,
The sound of footsteps cut through his thoughts. Voices. Elise was back again. That evil, despicable Luna. How he hated her. This was all her fault.
She was heading down the stairs this time. Avery tried to listen for the sound of keys but there was none.
He leaned back on the damp wall and waited as the footsteps grew closer.
“Unlock the cell this instant or get me Richard on the phone!”
“He’s not answering his phone but I’m trying to call him again, Luna. The keys are with the Alpha.”
“Go get it from him then! Tell him I need it,” she snapped.
“Yes, Luna. But like I told you, I can’t leave this place without a guard.”
Silence.
“How long has he been locked up here?”
“Just this morning. At dawn,” came the reply.
Moments later, the two came into view.
In the near darkness, Avery thought she looked truly furious.
Wait, was she that upset about him being behind these bars?
As their eyes met, she finally spoke to him.

“Why did you come here? Do have any idea how risky it is?”
“You kidnapped Sara. Again!” He replied.
‘Listen to me, you can’t throw her name around like that around here, Rowan. You’d get hurt. I told you. She’s the Alpha’s mate!‘
“The hell she is,” he barked aloud. “Get me the hell outta here and get me to her right now!”
“I will. Now calm down. Have you had breakfast? Did he eat breakfast yet?” She turned to the
guard.
The guard frowned as Avery bursted into laughter.
‘How fucking motherly!‘
Elise turned a sharp gaze at him and the laughter died on his lips.
‘If you really wanna help, get me to Sara!‘
Nick POV
“Daddy and I rode an aeroplane. We were in the sky, mommy. Hiiigh up there,” Alex exclaimed.
“Is that so? Did you like it?”
“Yes. Daddy said we would ride again and again…”
I watched she–wolf and pup as the latter told his tale of all that happened since the last time
he saw his mother.
Mine. My whole world.
These words floated around in my consciousness.
They were both in my house, inside my bedroom.
Despite our conversation moments ago, I let myself believe that everything was alright. I had these two here with me.
‘But why’s he here? What does this mean?‘ Sara asked, anxiety in her tone.
‘It’s my turn, Sara. And he’s next in line to inherit all of this. Don’t you think it’s time he started learning the ropes?’
She frowned, confused.

‘I brought him here to show him around. He’ll be back in Orphic tonight.”
‘Oh,‘ she mouthed.
I couldn’t blame her for thinking that all I wanted back then was her body.
We saw each other once a week. Barely talked. At least not with words. We didn’t meet or speak outside that secret apartment.
As I watched her lead our son to the couch, it occurred to me that she would need time to get over all that happened between us. The problem was I only had a few days.
