Chapter 0121
I decided to worry about that once I finished with Jeremy. I was close to his office when I
called Jake.
“What do you have on Colt?”
“Nothing interesting. He migrated from Africa many years ago. He and the sergeant aren’t blood relatives. We found that out through a DNA test.”
“So why does he call him uncle?”
“He was good friends with Reese.”
“I see.

As I hung up, I decided that my beta and gamma paid too little attention to the male. My instincts told me that Jeremy Colt held answers.
He was one person that could shed light on the sergeant’s roots faster than the Chief. After all, he was “good friends” with his father.
Not long after the call, I pulled over in front of Sara’s office.
The receptionist, who had never met me, was somewhat startled when I walked into the lobby.
She babbled a few words before dialling her boss‘ desk phone.
Within minutes, I was shown the elevator and riding up to meet him.
To my surprise, he stood waiting by the door when I arrived.
“Good morning, Mr. Colt.
Everyone’s gaze turned towards me as I stepped out of the elevator. But I had my eyes on the empty seat near the centre of the large office.
That had to be Sara’s. I couldn’t help smiling as images of her, sleeping soundly on my bed, played in my mind.
“Hello, Alpha. Nick. I mean Mr. Reign,” he babbled.
“I come in peace, Jeremy,” I said.
“Sara and my child were in trouble the last time we talked. So I was a little irritable…, and aggressive. Let bygone be bygone?”

“Oh… of course,” he nodded, seemingly surprised by the apology.
Then he added, motioning for me to follow him, “Let’s talk in my office.”
“My nephew said she won’t be coming to work today,” he said once he’d shut the door.
“I wonder how he knew that.”
“Well, the Luna visits him a lot.”
Oh, is that so?
I could guess why. It was to plan their elopement. My talk with the Chief confirmed that my mother meant business.
But why did she change her mind? Right, she somehow figured out the girl was my mate.
“Your nephew, huh?” I muttered.
“But we both know he’s not really your nephew, Jeremy.” I tried to keep my tone calm and non- confrontational.
But he grew defensive, anyway.
“Your mother already took the girl. She’s probably prepping her as your sex slave now. You won, Alpha. There’s no need to hurt Avery to keep her away from your woman… female,
whatever.”
How the f*ck did he know that? If the sergeant told him, how did he learn about the ways of
the elite?
My mother would never discuss that with a commoner let alone a half–wolf.
I wanted to ask who told him but reconsidered. Ignoring his remark, I asked instead,
“So you’re not blood relatives. What are you then? A friend of his mother or father? I hear his mother is the wolf of the two, so I’m guessing that’s the parent you’re acquainted with, no?”
“With all due respect, you’re wrong, Alpha. I never once met the female. She was a big secret because in Reese’s own words, “if you know her, you could be in deep shit like I am.” He said that a few days before he was killed. She was a married, I mean mated she–wolf.”
The little revelation caused an odd heaviness to settle in my gut. Mated she–wolf? I was right. Her mate murdered his father.
“So she’s still alive?”

“I know nothing about her, Mr. Reign. Avery’s father and I met when he was four. I took an interest in them because I knew the boy and I were alike.
Reese parted ways with the his mother long before we met. She left the child with him.
One evening, I stopped by to check on them when I found my friend gruesomely murdered. Balls chopped off! The kid was still playing in the woods. He’d just turned five.
If we knew his mother, we could put a face to the murderer. It had to be her mate.
My friend left a blood–stained note, begging me to take the boy and leave the village immediately. I couldn’t let him see his daddy like that, so I cleaned up quickly before he got
back.
We left that night. Running was all we did for a few years after that because every werewolf was a suspect. I had to change his name a few times too.
He re–adopted the name Hawke nine years ago when he joined the police academy. Said he wanted to keep something of his father’s.”
“Well, ain’t that a tragic tale,” I sighed. “What village?”
“What? Kas Lake!”
“So you’re telling me you don’t know his mother?” The question was lame, but my thoughts were now jumbled.
“That’s what I’m telling you!”
“What’s his original name?”
“Look, Alpha, he listens to me. I’ll tell him to stay far away from Sara-”
“What’s his original name?”
This information mattered to me somehow, for some reason.
“Rowan,” he replied gently. “His original name is Rowan.”
That was a cute name. If for no reason but the fact that Rowan was my other name when I
was pup. My father hated it with a passion, though.
Only my mother called me that. She alternated it with Nick for a few years.
Till my dad got so mad one day and went on a trip.
‘What the fuck?‘
