Diana looked pale, her hair damp and tangled. She clutched her blankets as if they were her armor, her golden wolf’s aura flickering weakly. Her chest rose and fell rapidly, and her sharp
gasps reverberated in the quiet room.
“You…” Her voice cracked, betraying her fear. “You tried to drown me.”
The words trembled in the air. Her accusation hung between us like a blade, but I met her gaze
steadily, my scarred wolf calm and unbothered as ever.
“If I wanted you dead, Diana,” I said coldly, leaning back in the chair, “you wouldn’t be here
now.”
Her eyes widened slightly, and her wolf whimpered faintly. The once–proud sister of the strongest pack warrior could barely hold my gaze.
I let the silence linger, watching her fight with herself, her hands fisting the blanket harder as if
trying to anchor her thoughts. The longer she stayed quiet, the more control I had.
“You tried to humiliate me, out there by the lake,” I added, my tone sharp as broken glass. “You thought pushing me into sacred waters during a Blood Moon would make you look better. Did
you think I wouldn’t see it coming?”
“I wasn’t trying to-” Diana’s voice broke. Defiance flashed briefly in her golden eyes, but it
faltered almost immediately.
“Spare me your lies,” I cut her off, my voice like ice. “You’re lucky I pulled you out at all. Your panic could’ve dragged us both under. Or did you not think of that when you lunged at me?”
Diana flinched at my words, her wolf bristling even in its weakened state. “You-”
“But the real question,” I interjected before she could gather her thoughts, “is why Scarlett
stopped Alexander and Lucas from saving you.”
Her lips parted, but no words came out.
I leaned forward slightly, narrowing my gaze on her. “Why, Diana?”
Her golden wolf shifted uneasily. “Scarlett didn’t stop them.”
“Didn’t she?” I shot back, my voice growing sharper. “Your brother. Your own flesh and blood.

Diana blinked rapidly, her breathing quickening. Her wolf whined softly, torn between doubt
and instinct.
“You’d really believe it’s ‘improper‘ for Alexander, the pack’s strongest warrior, to intervene and
save his own sister’s life?” I added, my tone dripping with disdain.
“She… she didn’t mean to-” Diana stammered, her voice shaking.
“Alexander,” I said firmly, “could have saved you without a single political consequence. As
your brother, that’s his right. Lucas is unattached. Him interfering wouldn’t have harmed his
standing either.”
Her wolf bristled again, and I noticed her struggling with the weight of my words. I didn’t let
the silence drag this time, pressing harder.
“Scarlett kept them still,” I stated with cold precision. “Why?”
“To protect the rules-”
“Really?” The sharpness of my voice cut through her weak protest. “Did she stop them
because of ‘rules‘? Or because of what might happen if Lucas saved you instead?”
Diana’s golden eyes flickered. Confusion. Recognition. Betrayal. Her wolf stirred uneasily, but
there was no more denial in her expression.
“If Lucas had been the one to save you,” I said smoothly, “it would’ve made you look weak.
Vulnerable. Scarlett couldn’t afford that.”
Her body went rigid, her wolf’s aura trembling under the weight of the truth.
“An alpha’s heir coming to your rescue,” I continued, lowering my voice deliberately, “might
have created an alliance. A bond. Even a mate claim.”
Her breathing hitched.
I tilted my head slightly, watching my words sink into her mind. “But a bond like that would’ve complicated Scarlett’s little fairy tale with Alexander, wouldn’t it?”
Diana’s lips parted, but no sound emerged.
“And here you are, defending her,” I said bitterly. “The same wolf who stood by as you nearly drowned. The same wolf who kept your brother frozen while you were pulled under sacred
waters.”

Her wolf snarled faintly, but the sound carried more frustration than fury.
“Scarlett wouldn’t…” she whispered weakly, her eyes darting as if searching for a safe thought
to cling to.
“Wouldn’t what?” I laughed coldly, my voice sharp enough to make her flinch. “Wouldn’t
manipulate you? Wouldn’t put her own reputation above your life?”
Diana shook her head, but it was slow, uncertain. Her wolf whined louder, caught between
instinct and the truth I was placing before them.
“Let me guess,” I said, my voice turning icy and mocking, “you believe she’s your closest ally,
don’t you? Your trusted friend? Someone who has your back no matter what?”
“I…”
“She watched you struggle,” I cut in harshly. My tone carried all the bitterness I felt. “Struggle
to breathe. Struggle to survive. And she pretended to cry while stopping the wolves who
could’ve actually saved you. Or have you forgotten?”
“No!” Diana snapped suddenly, her voice breaking. Her breathing turned shallow again, her
wolf still trembling with faint submission. She clutched the blanket harder, her knuckles white.
I leaned back calmly, watching her with a cool, detached expression. “Then why are you
defending her? Why are you still loyally following her lead, even now?”
“Because…” Diana faltered again, her wolf unable to produce an answer.
“Because she’s given you nothing,” I finished mercilessly, watching her face crumble under the
weight of my words. “Nothing but betrayal.”
Her head dropped slightly, her golden locks falling limply across her forehead. She had no retort. No defense. Silence stretched between us, heavy and suffocating.
Eventually, she shifted, visibly forcing herself to meet my gaze. “Why did you…?”
“Why did I drive you to this point?” I interrupted. My silver–scarred wolf stirred faintly, exuding calm power. “To show you what she really is. To tear away the lies you keep clinging to.”
Her eyes narrowed slightly. Her wolf bristled again, trying to rise above the shame and doubt filling the room. “And what about you?” she demanded weakly. “Why should I trust anything you say or do?”
“Don’t,” I said bluntly.

Diana’s hands trembled on the blanket.
“It wasn’t me who turned your near–death into a theatrical performance to protect a delicate
perception,” I finished with cold finality. The sharp edge to my voice carried weight I could tell
she felt.
Her wolf howled faintly, restless with suppressed anger, confusion, and humiliation. It was an
internal fight I’d seen before–one of realization hitting far deeper than she expected.
For a moment, she said nothing. No accusations. No snarls. No attempts at venomous
deflection.
But I wasn’t finished yet. “Soon, I’ll be marked by Marcus and move to the Northern territory,” I
said casually, watching her reaction carefully.
Her wolf stiffened sharply at my words, and her golden eyes flashed unexpectedly. It was
subtle, but the reaction told me more than I needed to know.
“And when I’m gone,” I continued, voice soft yet steady, “you’ll have no one left to stand against
Scarlett.”
