Chapter 35–Running Thoughts

I stared up at Jamie, my head resting on his bare chest as I watched him breathe in and out
slowly. He had just fallen asleep..but I couldn’t..not even after what we just did.
You would think three orgasms would’ve knocked me right out..but nope..wide awake as butterflies filled my stomach..tomorrow was the big day..
Tomorrow I was going to marry Jamie Sinclair and I couldn’t wait.
This week has been nothing but incredible and it started with meeting Jamie’s mother Teresa. She was just as lovely as Jamie described her to be..I remember the first time our gazes locked..it felt like we had already met before.
Teresa had light brown hair and matching honey–brown eyes, just like her son. Her skin was kissed by the sun and you could definitely see the resemblance. She was a little taller than
me, but the way she opened her arms wide and looked at me with so much warmth..I couldn’t
help but hug her tight.
“Gabriella..it’s so nice to finally meet you..” She whispered as her sweet perfume engulfed me. She wore a beautiful green wrap dress and her hair came down in waves past her shoulders.
She looked so elegant and naturally stunning..I swear she looked to be in her late thirties… wondered if Jamie and her ever got confused for siblings…
“Now..what have you done to my son and ex–husband? I have never seen them act so soft.” She added playfully as I couldn’t help but laugh.
That’s when Robert came over before eyeing his ex–wife, the look he gave her one that confused me. He looked at her with such warmth that I began to wonder why they weren’t together anymore.
She seemed to be so relaxed and even friendly towards him.
“Now T..you can’t blame it all on the girl..I’m sure aging wisely has something to do with it as well.” He said before winking at me, earning a rib to the gut from Teresa.
I glanced over at Jamie who looked like he didn’t know how to handle this and went to his side, lacing our fingers together.
I could tell he felt confused by the way his dad was behaving, Teresa seemed surprised as well.

But by the end of the night, they were reminiscing about old times and I actually saw a hint of
a smile on Jamie’s face a few times.
Teresa asked me to help her clear the table, making Jamie hop to his feet before she scolded
him and told him to go sit down.
“We need some girl time..don’t you and your father have some type of work to discuss or something..” She shooed him away, making Jamie frown before kissing me on the lips.
I could see he and his mom were very close.
I carried the plates into the kitchen, my eyes glancing toward Teresa as she leaned back on
the counter and studied me carefully.

“I will be honest with you Gabriella..I never liked the idea of this contract marriage..” She blurted, making my heart stop as I almost dropped the plates on the floor but managed to grip them tighter before placing them on the counter.
Did she not approve of us getting married?
“I know the type of women whose families usually agree to these things..the type of lifestyles they live and expectations they have.” She continued.
“Surprisingly Robert and I married for love..” She laughed half–heartedly.
“He was my whole world, and then I had Jamie..and he really changed everything..” Teresa let out a sigh before looking down at her shoes.

“Then I realized Robert fell in love with somebody else..well..something else..his job.” She said, making my heart ache as I saw a hint of sadness fill her eyes.
“As much as he refuses to admit it..I think the divorce effected him just as much as it did me..and that’s why I believe he came up with this whole contract thing..that if Jamie were just to meet a woman with common interests and goals, that he won’t feel guilty for leaving her to do his job..that it was already known before what the marriage was even agreed upon and no love was needed.” What she said made my stomach twist..was she going to tell me it wouldn’t
work out?
“But seeing you two together..seeing how Jamie acts with you..it seems this contract is a little different wouldn’t you say? It seems perhaps love has slipped its way inside of it.” She smiled slyly, making me blush while nodding my head before she walked over and took my hands.
“And I don’t know what you are doing to that old man..but Gabriella, you are just what this family needs..so don’t ever think this is just a contract for marriage..you two have made it something more..” She reassured me, making my heart swell with happiness as I felt like I

could cry..and Teresa wasn’t too far off..she hugged me tightly as we stayed like that for a few
minutes.
After we left Teresa even offered to help me get ready on the day of the wedding and I gladly
accepted..
I also asked Jolie to be my maid of honor. She and I have been texting back and forth and I
actually think we might be friends..
Nolan still hasn’t warmed up to me yet..I saw him at Jamie’s work a few times and every time
he seemed to ignore me..I’m starting to think it might not just be from what Cecelia has told
him.
What else could he have against me?
He has agreed to come to the wedding, but now that Cecelia will be there, Jamie doesn’t know
if that’s a good idea..he was kind of upset that I agreed to them coming..which I get..
I just don’t want to make daddy look bad..there will be a few reporters there too..I guess this is
a pretty big deal.
That makes me even more nervous..
I took a deep breath before flopping onto my back and bringing Butterscotch over to my chest.
I slowly traced his nose and the smooth black mound of his eyes..
Who would’ve thought someone like me would be getting married to the most sought–after
bachelor in New York?
Some nights I lay awake, hoping this isn’t some dream I will wake up from and I will be back in
that plain room, staring at those white walls wondering if I will ever escape them.
Once Jamie and I are married, then it’s official..then there is no going back.
We both talked about it, and we decided to wait on having s*x until our wedding night..he
wants to make it special and a part of me feels like that’s the right decision..
It will be something I can give him to show he has all of me..even though I have tried a few
times already..
He says he wants to do everything right with me, that I’m going to be his wife for the rest of
his life so he wants to make it my dream wedding.
But that stuff doesn’t matter to me..in fact, I swear Jamie planned most of it. I am just
supposed to show up..which is okay with me.
I have also been practicing a surprise for him..I plan on saying “I Do,” when the priest asks, he

doesn’t know yet, and want him to hear me say it for the first time..if I can..I’m still so nervous.
Suddenly Jamie rolled onto his side, his arms reaching out as he pulled me to his chest before tucking my head beneath his chin.
“I love you.” He breathed, making my heart race as I bent down, kissing his arm in response.
I love you too Jamie Sinclair, and I can’t wait until tomorrow..
