CHAPTER 97: He was accused
Alaia
It had been a month since Dominic woke up. He had a medical team and another one that
took care of his physical therapy. Grace and Caty hadn’t left his side for a single second.
Grace had found out what Killian did or tried to do to her husband. She couldn’t believe it at
first, but she finally believed her son. She could only feel hatred for her father–in–law, and
thanks to her husband waking up, her attitude had changed drastically. I couldn’t say that we
got along, for now, but the encounters were cordial. I could see that she got emotional every
time the children visited Dominic, but she didn’t dare to approach them. Maybe she thought
she didn’t deserve to see them. I wanted to see if her change was real to allow my children to get close to her.
“She’s so cute, she’s going to look beautiful in her Snow White dress,” Tino said as he walked
towards us with the garment in his hands. It was a replica of the dress. I knew my little girl
would look beautiful.
“I’ve added my extra touch,” Ash said, showing me the delicate rhinestone finishes she’d made
to the dress.
“Why are you so happy?” Tino asked, taking my little girl’s hands.
“Ti, pincess nieves,” my little girl replied, turning around.
“Awww, I could eat her up!” Tino exclaimed and hugged my little girl while she laughed.
“Thank you, honey, it’s better than I could have imagined,” I said, taking the hand of my cousin,
who had been very distracted these days. We’d asked her what was wrong, but she’d decided
to keep us out of it.
We got distracted looking at Noah’s clothes, who, on the contrary, had chosen a costume from
a video game. It was a kind of military.
“But what game is this, sweetie?” Tino asked, looking at Noah’s costume.
“Love and boom,” he replied, making movements of shooting and something exploding.
“I understand you perfectly, love of my life,” my friend said, hugging him with a smile.
We’d bought almost everything for the birthday. They’d be two years old in a couple of weeks.
“As if you were asking me every day, don’t ask me that I don’t have the slightest idea about the video game. Aidan was the one who helped me get it,” I commented with a smile on my lips, looking at the design of the house decorations on the tablet, which would be half princess and

half war zone. Oh my God.
“How old are you turning, my treasures?” Ash asked, pampering them.
“Two,” both showed two little fingers and we melted with tenderness.
We coordinated everything to be ready for the appointed date and I got ready to take the children to Dominic, who every day showed a radiant smile when he saw them. He said that his grandchildren gladdened his heart. Nick’s house was adapted for my father–in–law. I liked how that sounded; now Grace and Caty lived there too, so I thought we’d have to get a new house for Nick and us in a nearby location. I didn’t want either of them to be far from our
families.
“I’m going with you, honey,” my mother said, taking Alana’s hand as I was about to leave.
Grace and she had a closer relationship than I did. According to my mother, Grace didn’t have friends, just women in her circle who weren’t friends, and by chance, my mother had found her crying weeks ago when I took my parents, Ash, and Tino to meet Dominic. Of course, Tino was delighted; Nick’s father was the older version of him. My mother had comforted Grace; she had a thousand emotions that day that my mother helped to appease. The relationship between her and her children had not yet recovered.
We got into my truck and I drove a few minutes to Nick’s house. I parked and they let us in.
I greeted Grace who had left the glamour aside. Her clothes were comfortable and her
hairstyle was simple. She looked younger with that new style.
“Good afternoon,” I nodded at her.
“Good afternoon,” she greeted me and looked at me, but quickly looked at my children. longingly. I felt a little bad, however, every day my doubts about letting her get close to them dissipated.
“Go ahead,” Sophia said, asking me to go to a room on the first floor, as Dominic now used a wheelchair to get around.
“Alaia,” Dominic smiled.
“Dominic, how are you?” I asked, approaching him to take his hand.
“Every day is better,” he nodded slowly and I smiled happily. Progress also depended on the patient’s attitude and he had what it took to recover soon. My children climbed onto their grandfather’s bed. Today was coloring day, so we got down to business.
“Grandpa, paint,” Alana said, offering him a color, and Dominic looked at me while Noah brought him his painting book. Alana helped him take the pencil and I came closer to

accommodate the notebook under Dom’s hand. He began to move the color slowly on the
sheet and Alana clapped delightedly.
I was filled with emotions and I blinked to contain them.
I left the room and got a call from my love.
“Honey,” I smiled as I saw my mother with Grace in the living room.
“Love, how are you?” he asked and his tone of voice made me frown.

“Fine, I brought the kids to see their grandfather,” I said and Nick laughed, “is everything okay?”
I heard him exhale.
“We collaborated as much as we could in the investigation of the contracts. They opened a case against Killian and he was captured,” he explained and something in me began to feel a
certain relief.
“Oh my God, love, I’m on my way. Where are you?” I questioned, realizing that I hadn’t asked
him.
“At the LA Superior Court,” he explained.
“I’ll see you in half an hour,” I said, going to look for my car.
“I won’t be long, Mom, please take care of my children,” I said, putting the phone in my purse.
“Alaia,” Grace’s voice stopped me as I opened the car door to get in and I turned around to see
her.
“I wanted to ask you to let the children stay a little longer, today,” she said, looking at me and holding her hands together.
I looked at her in silence.
“Yes, they will stay until Dominic’s therapists arrive,” I said.
“No, not for Dominic, this time I would like them to stay for me,” she said, touching her abdomen and I was speechless.
“I know I acted like a horrible person,” she looked down. “And I hope one day I can explain what happened in my mind and my heart.” She looked affected.
I looked at my mother and she told me with her eyes that it was my decision.
“It’s okay,” I exhaled, just don’t make me regret this decision, I thought to myself.
“Thank you,” her voice had lost the arrogance and pride I heard the few times I saw her.

I nodded and got in the car.
Half an hour later I arrived at the courthouse and walked quickly once I was given directions
at the reception desk.
“Honey,” I said as I saw Nick’s back and approached him to touch his shoulder.
“Love,” he kissed my lips and pressed me against him.
“What happened?” I caressed his cheek.
“They’re in a private session, they’re charging him,” he said and I nodded.
We waited a little longer until the session was over and people started coming out of the
room.
We saw a man in a suit come out and approach Nick and he introduced us. He was his
company’s lawyer.
“He was indicted, it will be a matter of time before he is sentenced,” Nick and I exhaled at the
same time, until through the open double door we saw Killian come out with two other men, I
imagined his lawyers.
“Why is he leaving?” I asked incredulously as Killian walked past without looking at us.
“He was released on bail while the case was being resolved and the sentence was handed
down. Killian has no priors, it was easy for his lawyers to get it,” the lawyer shrugged and
sighed.
“s**t!” Nick clenched his fists and shook his head.
I squeezed Nick’s arm and made him look at me. His face calmed down and he kissed me.
“It will be a matter of time before he receives his sentence, all the evidence implicates him,”
the man said, patting Nick’s shoulder and we both nodded after he said goodbye.
“Come on, let’s go home,” I told him, I stood on tiptoe to kiss him and took his hand to start
walking.
We each got into our cars, and we came in both.
I drove feeling a sinking feeling in my chest. Killian seemed like a cat with nine lives. I just hoped he would stay away from us.
We arrived at the street where Nick’s house was and I saw the front door open. He sped up the car and passed the entrance to his house. I was going to follow him, but an ambulance and a police car stopped in front of me. With my heart pounding, all I could think about was my children. My heart felt a huge tightness and a huge fear. With trembling hands, I managed to

get out of the vehicle and run towards the house. Everything seemed surreal. One of the security men was lying on the floor with blood on his side. I approached him, the paramedics were giving him first aid and they loaded him into the ambulance. I started hyperventilating. Marshall came out with Beast in his arms and I saw blood on his fur.
“Beast,” I said frightened, approaching the dog.
“I’ll take care of it, ma’am, he’ll be fine,” he said, hurrying to a car.
I entered the living room and looked for my children like a madwoman.
“Mom,” I spoke loudly. “Grace.” Tears clouded my eyes and the air burned my lungs.
“Alaia,” Grace appeared with my little girl clinging to her and a phone in her hand. She had
Alana’s little head hidden in her chest.
“Mommy!” my little girl exclaimed as soon as she saw me and I rushed to take her in my
arms. I pressed her against my chest and inhaled her scent.
“Noah,” I said to Grace, as I searched desperately in all directions and she looked at me with
tears overflowing from her eyes.
“They took them away.” She began to cry.
