CHAPTER 168: LOVE ME ONE MORE TIME She is important to me
Gavin
“The reservation has been scheduled,” said the girl from the restaurant where I hoped to take
Loli. She might not accept, but if I got lucky and she did, I wanted everything to be perfect-
candles, a private spot for the two of us, and a pleasant atmosphere.
I turned back to my teammates and continued with the training. They would show me some of
their tactics, and I’d share a bit of ours.
“Are you still sending gifts to that girl?” Juan asked as I executed a few more moves. They had
noticed the purchases I’d made over the phone; he had even come with me to get the dessert.
“I’m not going to stop until she gives me a chance,” I admitted, throwing a punch.
“It’s obvious you’re fixated on her. I know how it is–they tell you no over and over, but they
don’t realize that ‘no‘ just makes us want to turn it into a ‘yes‘ and get what we want before
moving on. I’ve always thought the only way to stop obsessing over a woman is to take her to
bed.”
He finished, and I repeated that sentence aloud with an ironic smile. I used to think the same
way.
“And it’s more fun when they play hard to get. You shower them with gifts until they fall for you; it’s more satisfying when you see them beneath you, gasping,” he concluded, and he and
Galo laughed. I stopped my movements.
“I think it’s a dirty and low game. Women deserve more than that, not just to be seen as objects or trophies that make us feel more manly if we get them. I won’t deny that I used to think exactly like you. I loved the challenges, until the girl I least expected turned my world upside down and made me rethink all those basic and empty thoughts. I’m sure love will hit you hard, and you’ll taste your own medicine someday,” I finished, and they fell silent as I looked for the exit, stopping when I saw the packages I’d sent to Loli this week.
“Were you able to talk to her?” Gus asked as he arrived at the house. I looked at him. “Loli was here a few minutes ago, I thought you had talked, but judging by your face, it seems like nothing came of it.”
I furrowed my brows and looked at the packages again; I hadn’t seen her.
“Damn it!” I shouted after thinking for a few seconds, turning around and opening my laptop, looking for the gym’s recording. I found the moment she arrived and didn’t need to activate the audio to know she had heard the stupid conversation. Her distressed face and her movements

filled me with frustration, and something tightened in my chest.
“I need to explain it to her,” I said, walking to go find her.
“Hey! Hey! You can’t go out like that,” Gus stopped me before I reached the door.
I realized I was only wearing sweatpants.
“And you have an outing tonight with Mr. Russell and Alaia,” Gus reminded me as I headed upstairs to take a shower, cursing internally. I’d never changed the organization of our
schedules, and I couldn’t do it today. I had to go to that meeting to accompany them.
I got up after sleeping a few hours. We had arrived back from the event in the early morning, and I hadn’t been able to do anything about Loli. When I’d gone to look for her at the house, she was already gone.
I took a shower and got ready to go to Loli’s house. Today was my day off, and I had planned
for tonight to be the dinner.
I drove to her house feeling impatient. I knew she’d be defensive; this would set us back, but I
wouldn’t leave until she heard me out.
I quickly got out of the car, headed straight to the door, and knocked.
“Young man, what a pleasure to see you! Teresa!” said Fernando, Loli’s father, when he saw me, and I thought he was greeting me. Loli’s mother came out a second later and looked at
me with a pleasant expression.
“Good morning, Loli, please,” I said in Spanish, and they froze for a few seconds.
“She’s not here,” the lady shook her head, and I understood what she meant.
“Come in, come in, please,” Loli’s father gestured for me to enter, and I did, hoping Loli wouldn’t
take long to return.
“Coffee?” Loli’s mother offered with a gesture. I shook my head and thanked her.
“Have you come for our daughter?” Fernando frowned, and I opened an app on my phone to communicate with them, asking him to repeat the question, which he did.
“Yes,” I replied, and Teresa sat next to her husband, looking surprised by my affirmation.
“Our girl has left,” she said, and I felt a pang in my chest. “It’s her grandmother’s birthday today. She went ahead to her grandparents‘ house last night, and left in a hurry,” she
explained.
I nodded.

“I need to talk to her; it’s important. She is important to me,” I confessed, and Teresa’s eyes
widened, seeming to understand what I meant.
“My goodness,” she put her hands to her chest, and I couldn’t decipher her reaction.
“But they said you were just acquaintances,” Fernando said, not quite understanding.
“There’s much more from my side,” I exhaled, and they looked at each other. “I know it’s not your place to give me Loli’s whereabouts,” I stood up, “I’ll try to contact her. I don’t want her to
know I came by for now. Thank you for your time. I hope the next time we meet, the
circumstances will be different, and it will be to make a special request.”
Teresa’s eyes widened again, and she squeezed her husband’s hand.
“Thank you for everything,” I took my phone and turned to leave.
“San Martin, an hour from here,” Teresa said, and I looked at her.
“Thank you,” I took her hands.
“Take care of our girl,” her smile reached her eyes.
“I promise,” I said and nodded to Fernando, who seemed still in shock. I deactivated the app
and headed to the exit, almost bumping into a woman who looked like Teresa.
“Good morning,” I greeted, and she just looked at me. I typed the name of the place I needed to
go to before getting into the car.
“Who is that big guy?” the newcomer asked Loli’s mother.
“He’s Loli’s partner, Raquelita,” she replied, and I turned to look at them. Not understanding
what they said, I could only notice that one of them raised her chin while the other looked like
she’d seen a ghost.
“Teresa, my goodness,” Fernando spoke to his wife. I got into the car and started the short
drive.
I located the Airbnb I had reserved, close to the house where she was and with a view of the
lake. It wasn’t hard to find her grandparents‘ place; I entered the house and saw it was a nice
home with the same style as the village.
I took a bottle of water, looked at the lake, and spotted Loli’s grandparents‘ house a few
meters away, some trees covering it, and saw some people nearby.
It was noon when the family came out of the house toward some tables near the lake. My breath caught when I saw her running with some children. Loli’s parents had already arrived.
I watched them during their family gathering and decided to wait until it ended. I was surely

the last person she wanted to see right now.
The afternoon began to fall, and it seemed the gathering was coming to an end. She hadn’t separated from her family for a second.
