CHAPTER 166: DARE TO LOVE ME You Always Lead Me Back to You
Gavin
I had just dropped Patrick and Mrs. Paula off at a restaurant. They asked me to head back to the mansion; they’d call when they needed a ride. Everyone had decided to do their own thing
this weekend, so there wasn’t much for me to do. I looked at the map guiding me back to the
house and sighed. Loli and her refusals were driving me crazy. I needed her by my side, but
she made it so difficult, although I knew I deserved it.
I was driving down a deserted street when I saw someone on the ground being attacked by a
group
of guys. An older man was trying to stop them. Without hesitation, I stopped the car
and headed towards the three attackers. I grabbed them one by one and pulled them away
from the poor man on the ground.
One of the guys lunged at a girl I hadn’t seen before. She had a black eye. I quickly approached, grabbed him by the jacket before he could hurt her, and landed a blow that left him unconscious on the ground. She was terrified, and the other two cowards ran off. The
older man approached the girl and hugged her.
“Are you okay?” I asked the man on the ground in English.
“He wants to know if you’re okay,” the girl translated and introduced herself. Her name was
Clara, and the man beside her was her father.
He nodded, and I helped him to his feet.
“It was just a few light blows,” he said. I didn’t understand him very well, but I was stunned to
realize he was Loli’s father.
“He’s okay,” Clara translated, noticing my confusion. “Thank you.”
“Thank you, young man,” the other older man, who was hugging his daughter, spoke, and I understood the “thank you.” I’d been practicing my Spanish with Gus. Yes, I was doing it for
her. I wanted to be able to speak her language.
I nodded.
“He’s my ex–husband,” the girl said in English. “He doesn’t want to accept that I don’t want him anymore,” she explained. I noticed that she knew a little English, but I managed to understand
her.
She finished explaining that Loli’s father and hers, who were old friends, were trying to defend her from her ex’s attacks, but they didn’t expect two other guys to show up and jump Loli’s

father after he punched the girl’s ex.
I called Armando, one of my security team colleagues who lived here and asked for his help. He arrived quickly. I explained the situation and introduced him to Clara. I crossed my arms, noticing the two of them freeze when they saw each other, their hands clasped for a few seconds. I thought the girl had found a protector, and maybe something more.
“Let’s go, trash,” Armando said roughly, pulling Clara’s ex, who was now coming around, to his feet. He handed him over to the police, who had just arrived.
“I’ll take him to the hospital,” I told Loli’s father, and the girl translated.
“No, no, I’ll go home. I’m an oak tree. As you can see, it was just a couple of blows that didn’t even hurt,” he said, lifting his chin. This time it was Armando who helped us communicate.
“Then I’ll take you home,” I said, and he nodded, taking my shoulder.
“Thank you. You’ve been very kind and brave,” he said, and Clara and her father thanked me as well. I said goodbye to Armando, who gave me a reassuring look, and I got in the car.
I drove in silence while the man adjusted his shoulder. It seemed to be hurting him.
“We can still go to the hospital,” I spoke into my phone so it could translate.
“No, no, I’m fine. A couple of creams and I’ll be good as new,” he spoke through the same
medium as me, and I nodded in understanding.
I followed his directions to get to the house. Yes, the same ones I knew by heart, but I didn’t let
- on.
“Take care,” I said as I stopped the car.
“Please, come in. I insist you join us for dinner. It’s the least I can do after what you’ve done for me and Clarita.” I looked at the house. I had wanted Loli to miss me for a day, so she’d miss me. That’s right, I was an optimist. But since fate had brought me here, I couldn’t refuse.
“After you,” he invited me, and I stepped inside Loli’s house for the first time. I’d never been past the front door. I could feel the warmth of home here. A delicious aroma wafted from the
kitchen.
“Fernando, honey, where have you been?” The blonde woman, who I now noticed had some of Loli’s features, hugged her husband.
“I’m fine, honey. That good–for–nothing Héctor tried to hit Clarita, and Gastón and I defended her, but a couple of that delinquent’s friends showed up and attacked me,”
“Mother of God! Is Clarita all right?” she asked worriedly.

“She is, she is, my love,” he patted her hands, calming her down. “This young man helped us,
and I’ve invited him to dinner. He pointed to me, and I was a little lost.
“You’re an angel.” She took my hands in hers. “Thank you.”
I understood the “thank you‘ again.
“Loli! Loli! Your father’s home!” the woman shouted, and I felt a flutter in my stomach.
I heard footsteps running down from the second floor, and not long after, Loli appeared, her
blonde hair damp. I saw she was wearing a pink loungewear set that looked very comfortable.
She ran to her father and hugged him. They had a short conversation in which I assumed he
explained what happened, and finally, he pointed to me. Her eyes widened, and she froze.
“Thank you for helping him,” she said, and I nodded.
“You know each other?” her father asked, frowning, and her mother came closer.
“Yes, Gavin is part of the Russells‘ security team,” she explained in a low voice.
“Oh, perfect. I was just thinking you could give us his contact information, but this is even better than I expected.”
Her mother smiled brightly, and Loli checked on her father. Fortunately, as he said, there was
nothing to worry about.
We moved to the table and sat down. I ended up next to Loli. Her fruity scent washed over me,
and I was completely captivated by her gaze every time her parents asked me a question,
which she translated, and I answered gladly.
****
Loli
I watched the blond smile at my parents as they used the translator. They wanted to learn how to use these “devices.” I felt something in my stomach seeing them so lively and, needless to
say, the help he gave my father and the admiration he now felt for Gavin.
I was completely taken aback to see him here, that it was him, of all people, who helped my
father and Clara, that poor girl.
“I should be going. Thank you for your hospitality,” Gavin said, standing up, and they rose with
him. I translated.
“It was nothing compared to what you’ve done. It’s a shame you have to leave already. I think you and Loli could be… good friends. I see that even though you work together, you’re not close,” my mother said, looking at him with admiration.

CHAPTER 166: DARE TO LOVE M…
“Mom! I’m not going to tell him that,” I said, glaring at her.
“Oh, honey, but have you seen this man?” She gestured towards him. “He looks like he belongs. in one of those Hollywood movies.” She was fascinated, and I sighed, realizing I’d already
noticed. “You even look cute together. I can’t even imagine the grandchildren.” She smiled from
ear to ear, looking at us both, and I couldn’t believe what she’d just said.
“For God’s sake, Mom, stop fantasizing. A man like him would never be interested in someone
like me,” I said, and my mother put her hands on her hips.
“What are you talking about, honey? You’re everything a man could want.”
“No, he…” I tilted my head slightly towards Gavin and remembered our history.
“Come on, don’t you realize you’re talking right in front of him?” My father made us look at
him, and we fell silent.
I translated my parents‘ thanks to Gavin, omitting my mother’s words, and walked him to the
door.
“Thank you for what you did,” I said, not understanding how he had arrived at the exact right
moment. Was he following me? Yesterday at the restaurant, and then at the club…
“You were very timely,” I said what I was thinking, looking into those eyes that managed to
make me lose myself for a second. Enough, Loli!
I noticed a slight laugh from him, and I saw him put his hands in his pockets.
“Again. It was a coincidence. I saw a man in trouble and didn’t think of anything but helping
him. I didn’t know it was your father.” He nodded, lowering his gaze. The idea of him following
me didn’t seem so unpleasant. Get a grip, Loli!
“We seem to always take the same paths, or they always lead me to you,” he said, and I swallowed the lump in my throat. “And I’m always happy to see you.” His eyes swept over me. “Even in those comfy and cute pink pajamas you’re wearing,” he finished, and I felt my cheeks
heat up.
“Sweet dreams, Loli,” he said, looking at my lips, and I watched him walk towards the car. He
nodded in my direction before driving off.
I went back inside, feeling like he’d made a crack in the armor I’d built against him.
