CHAPTER 120: DARE TO LOVE ME You Are Not Meant For Love
Loli
I had enjoyed some wonderful days in Los Angeles. Taking care of the little ones wasn’t demanding work; they were very intelligent and learned quickly. Moreover, they were calm and independent, not fussy or spoiled. They were a blessing for Alaia, for her family, and of course, for me. I loved them as if they were part of my family, and I was happy with them. At that rate, I doubted I’d ever have children of my own, so I decided to enjoy them as much as I could.
The day was beautiful, and I had brought the kids to paint in the covered patio area. I smiled as I watched them so focused on what they were doing; they couldn’t have been cuter.
“Sweetie, what are you painting?” I leaned over to Alana as she made some brushstrokes on
the canvas.
“A flower,” she said very seriously, and I looked at the abstract flower she was painting.
“You’re doing a great job,” I said, tenderly stroking her hair, then moved over to Noah.
“And you,
dear?”
“A car,” he said, making a circle for a wheel with the brush.
“It’s a great design,” I encouraged him, smiling as he patted me on the head and wrinkled his
little nose.
He was so cute.
We took a break, and I asked for some snacks to be brought over. One of the girls who worked in the house quickly brought them. She helped me get them to sit and eat.
While they ate on their own, I tidied up their work area, brushing a strand of hair from my
forehead.
They continued painting after eating, and I watched them, delighted.
My kids started yawning, and I knew it was nap time. I took them both in my arms and carried them to their room, cleaned them up, and gave them their bottles. They fell asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow. I quickly headed to the kitchen to leave the bottles and bring the
baby monitor with me.
“Have my little angels fallen asleep?” Mrs. Paula entered the kitchen.
“They’re exhausted from all that artwork,” I said, smiling as I organized the bottles on the
kitchen counter.

“We’ll need to build a room to store all of it,” she commented, and we laughed.
“Dear, Elise, Sylvia, and I are going out for a bit to do some shopping. You’re in charge,” Mrs.
Paula said.
“Yes, ma’am,” I turned around and saw her talking to one of the girls who handled the kitchen.
“Call me if anything comes up. We’ll be back for dinner,” she said, looking at both of us before leaving the kitchen.
Before I could return to the children, I received a call from my lovely mother, whom I adored,
though she could be a bit intense at times. I would see her soon during my two–week vacation,
but I still didn’t know how I’d get out of the pending date with my aunt Raquel’s silly
brother–in–law. I’d think of something. I sighed; I’d rather stay single than get involved with that guy. I finished putting the glass away in the kitchen cabinet.
“Good afternoon,” I heard that masculine voice. Oh, that voice! My legs started trembling, and
my body heated up. I was sure I had blushed. I couldn’t understand how a man who barely looked at me could cause such sensations in me. I’d denied that I liked him, but I hadn’t come
here for that.
“Good afternoon,” I swallowed a lump in my throat and turned around. We were alone,
something that rarely happened, and it didn’t matter. He wouldn’t notice me even if I were the
last woman on earth.
“I’m looking for Mrs. Paula,” that blessed voice, crafted by the gods themselves, stepped a bit further into the kitchen and approached me. My heart raced. There you are, Loli, dead for this stud who hasn’t even given you the time of day.
Or had he? My body reacted as I noticed him looking at my blonde, wavy hair, then my forehead, my nose, my lips, and even my cheeks, which had turned warm. I’d note this date as the first time he noticed me. His gaze continued down my body, and my stomach started to flutter. His eyes returned to my face, and he raised an eyebrow when I didn’t respond.
“Yes, yes,” I straightened up, “Mrs. Paula has gone out. She said she’d be back before dinner.” I assumed the man in front of me had changed his schedule. Last week, he had been here in
the morning.
He looked at my face again, nodded, took out his phone, and left.
Was that it? He had looked at me the way he did and just left. I stood there, stunned, watching
him go.
“Is everything okay, Loli?” one of the girls who worked in the house asked.

“Yes,” I nodded and turned to look at her.
“What do you have there?” she pointed and looked at me, confused.
“Where?” I checked myself and saw some paint marks on my clothes, which was common when my kids painted.
“On your face,” she approached me, found a silver spoon in a drawer, and showed me my reflection. I had several paint smudges on my face, one of them red on the tip of my nose. I even had blue and yellow paint in my hair. Damn it!
I lost my breath; he wasn’t looking at me. You’re lucky, Loli, very lucky. This encounter happens when you look like a clown.
“I’ll go clean up,” embarrassed and disheartened, I walked to the children’s room bathroom to clean myself up. I saw them sleeping and started scrubbing my face and hair to remove the paint.
Only you, Loli, only you, getting your hopes up with just a false look. I shook my head and went to bed with the kids, taking a book and starting to read silently, waiting for them to wake up. However, I could only think about the embarrassment I’d just experienced.
At dinner time, the kids went to Alaia when she arrived. I took the time to go to the patio and make sure the children’s things were in order. I was picking everything up when I heard him again. I looked up and saw him walking in the patio with his phone to his ear.
“I’ll pick you up as soon as I get out of here, darling,” he said. He must have had a girlfriend. Surely a handsome man like him would have one. Feeling a bit down, I stopped looking at him and focused on gathering the paints. “It doesn’t matter what you wear, you’ll look beautiful,” he continued, and I made a small grimace. How must it feel to have a man talk to you like that? I might never know.
A paint container slipped from my hands before I could put it in the box, and the sound of it falling caught his attention. Gavin looked at me and frowned.
“I… I’m sorry, more embarrassed than ever, I couldn’t muster any more words. I just put the paints away and managed to leave as quickly as I could without looking at him.
Perfect, now not only did I look like a mess, but he’d also think I was a busybody. On top of that, I had found out he had a girlfriend. Definitely, Loli, it seemed I wasn’t cut out for love
