CHAPTER 12: Where are the children?

“You’ll have to cut your hair,” Tino said after we fell silent. He looked at me conspiratorially. Ash wouldn’t cut her hair for a million dollars.

“Of course, I’m not cutting my hair. This is temporary, so I’ll wear a wig or some English caps. They’ll look perfect with the office suits I’ll be wearing.” Ash’s calmness impressed me.

“Come on, I’ll lend you something from my closet. We need to take your measurements and adjust them so you can wear them for the first few days. We don’t have time, you leave in less than 24 hours,” Tino said, standing up.

They both hugged me and left my room. Gosh, I’m going to miss Tino so much.

The hours passed and everything was ready to go. The luggage was in the vans. Aidan was very sad to know that he wouldn’t see the children often, even though they drive him crazy sometimes. But he will come to see us in a week with my father when he finishes his exams at the institute. I watched the children as they sat on the floor. My babies were playing with their Uncle Ayan, as they call him. I couldn’t help but feel a tightness in my chest.

“We’re ready” Tino and Ash entered, arm in arm. They were wearing the same sportswear.

I shook my head and laughed. They were a couple of goofballs.

“I’m going to miss you,” I said to my father.

“And I too, my girl,” he said, taking my face in his hands. I kissed his cheek and went to hug my little brother and Sondra. Darius came to say goodbye to the children.

“Will you be good while Grandpa is not with you?” Darius took them in his arms.

“Yeah,” they said confidently. Alana kissed Darius‘ cheek, stealing a smile from him, and Noah hugged him.

He nodded his head in my direction and I did the same as my children ran towards me and

said goodbye to everyone with their little hands.

My father couldn’t look sadder as he hugged Aidan’s shoulders. His eyes were red. Sondra

looked very discouraged. God, they’re breaking my heart. We got into the vans. My mother

went with Loli and Elise to one of them. Elise has decided to put some distance in the

relationship with her ex–husband. She didn’t want to see him, or she might kill him. In the other

SUV are the children, Tino, Ash, and me.

Once we arrived at the airport, we boarded the company plane.

“Oh, Mother of God, Ash, you have to make them fly me to Los Angeles on this plane,

otherwise I won’t go and everything can go to hell,” Tino said, lying down on one of the plane’s

couches

“I promise, you’ll go and come back riding it.” Ash and I laughed at the poses Tino was

making.

“It’s a deal,” he said and went to my children and hugged them, bidding them farewell

dramatically.

“Don’t cry, uncle,” Noah said.

“No, no, no, I’m not crying, it’s just that I’m going to miss you very much, my darlings.” He

wiped away a tear and hugged them again before leaving them with Loli. My dear friend came

up to me.

“This is so hard, my warrior princess. I love you, I’ll see you in less than a month, I won’t be

able to stand so long without you,” he murmured, hugging me.

“I love you too, honey. We’ll be in constant communication,” I said, and he nodded to say

goodbye to my mother, Elise, Loli, and finally Ash.

“Be bad, bitches,” he said when he finished, making us laugh.

“Mind your mouth, Tino,” my mother scolded, looking at my children, who were already

entertained watching a movie with Loli.

“Sorry, Mama Pau, sorry.” He wore a wig and blew us a kiss.

It pained my heart to leave so many people I love here. Though the good thing was that I

managed to bring half of them with me. I sighed and watched Tino leave the plane.

The plane took off and I talked to the girls and we passed the time until it was time to sleep.

When I woke up, my children were still asleep. I got ready and they informed me that we had

to make a stopover in San Francisco, which I didn’t see as a problem. We got off the plane and

went to the airport to rent a car. We decided to go out for breakfast and took a walk before

resuming our flight.

We walked together and I watched my children go with Loli, while Ash and I went looking for a

car with the specifications that we needed.

“Everything is ready, miss, your car is waiting for you at gate 4,” the girl who was helping us

said. However, I noticed something unusual.

“Wait, where are the kids?” I asked because I hadn’t heard them already. I always knew they

were there because I could hear them unless they were asleep, but this time, I couldn’t hear

their voices.

I looked at Ash and she started looking for them. We both walked in the direction we saw

them a few minutes ago.

We looked for the children and Loli. I walked quickly, although I felt calm because I knew that

Loli would not be separated from them.

“Bye–bye,” I heard Alana’s voice from a room. I could see Loli leaning towards my children as

my daughter waved goodbye to a man who quickly turned and walked away.

“Loli,” Ash and I said at the same time.

“Alaia, I’m sorry, Noah started running and Alana went after him, so I went to get them so l

wouldn’t lose sight of them. Just when I reached them, Noah bumped into a man who decided

to say hello to them, so I just kept my distance and watched over them.”

“It’s okay, Loli, come on, the kids must be starving.” I took my children’s hands and explained

to them that they shouldn’t run in a place like this or they might be lost. They both nodded as

if they understood me.

I called my mother to meet us at gate 4. They were in a private area. We went out for a short

walk around San Francisco. I would have liked to go to the university, but the stopover was

short and we didn’t have time. After seeing the beautiful city, we returned to the plane and

resumed our flight to Los Angeles.

It was almost noon when we arrived at L.A. International Airport, where our people were

already waiting for us. My father has arranged for two bodyguards for us. I didn’t say anything although I didn’t think they were necessary.

The flight was tiring, so when we entered the house, I couldn’t be more delighted. It was

prettier than in the photos.

“What a house! I mean, ours is beautiful, but this one is Hollywood style.” Ash took off her cap,

letting her beautiful dark hair fall.

“It’s beautiful, Alaia,” Elise said, entering with the others.

“Good morning,” Silvia” who introduces herself as the housekeeper“greeted. She was

accompanied by two young people, a boy and a girl. They will work for us together with Silvia.

We greeted them and they showed us to our rooms, which we visited after lunch. We all fell

into bed. Everyone was exhausted, especially Noah and Alana.

The next day…

I got up before the children. We spent yesterday resting and getting to know the house. Today I have to go to the T–World offices here in Los Angeles. There, I will meet with Ignacio, Erika, and the other members of my team. The meeting with the minister will be before noon.

“I’m ready.” Ash entered my room after I had dressed. She was wearing a man’s office suit without a tie and her hair was hidden under a matching English cap.

“You’re a very handsome boy,” I said with a laugh. Ash is very pretty and she looks great without makeup, although right now she looks like a high school boy.

“I know, isn’t it incredible?” she said, looking at herself in the mirror. “I think I’m going to break some hearts.” She turned to me. “And you, woman, are dressed to kill. That black office suit looks perfect on you.”

“I know,” I mimicked her words. She laughed.

We went down to have breakfast together with the little ones. The food was exquisite. I must say, our chef is incredible. We then said goodbye to the children who were happy to stay with my mother, Elise, and Loli.

We got into the van and went with the bodyguards. Several minutes later we arrived at the building where our offices were located. The building belonged to the Russells; however, we

only occupy the third part of the top floors. The other floors have been rented to other

companies. We arrived at the floor where the management offices were located. Megan was

ready to receive us as soon as we got off the elevator. She is the CEO of the Los Angeles

branch.

“Welcome, it’s a pleasure to meet you in person.” She smiled. “I had your team called up, they

arrived a while ago. Come with me, we’ll show you your offices.”

“Thank you, likewise, Megan,” I replied pleasantly to her first statement. I have spoken to her

on the phone on a few occasions.

“Go ahead.” She pointed the way and we followed her.

First, we went to my office, which had a small meeting room, a view of the city, and a huge

desk. On the left, we found a double door. When we opened it, a smile spread across my lips

as I saw a beautiful room suitable for my children.

“It’s perfect,” I told Megan.

“I’m glad you like it.” She smiled.

We talked a little more and I stayed with my team, as we didn’t have much time to organize the last details of the meeting. Afterward, they will have time to visit their offices. We talked about the pending expansion. It was important to know the timing to inform the minister, as we didn’t want them to think there would be delays. Ash paid close attention to what we were saying.
