CHAPTER 115: DARE TO LOVE ME Are you gay?!
Ashley
Let’s see, just stepping out onto the street and problems arose, first Frank and now this girl.
“Hi, a pleasure, I’m Asher,” I lightly pressed her soft hand and her smile broadened.
“Where are you from? You have a lovely accent,” she commented as we proceeded to sit down, the other girls talking with the other two.
“I’m from the UK,” I said proudly.
“Ahh, wonderful, I’ve visited the UK several times, I love it,” she said excitedly. “There are very handsome guys there,” she looked at me and shrugged.
Damn.
“Yes, I don’t doubt it,” I assured her.
“How old are you?” she tilted her childlike face.
“25,” I responded, and she was surprised.
“Oh! You look much younger,” she placed her hands together on her lap. “You look like you’re
18 or 19,” she fixed her hair again. I thought my age would deter her, but it didn’t. On the
contrary, she seemed to find me interesting. I scratched my head thinking of plan B; the night
would be long if she remained interested in me. On one side, I saw Will smiling at me, and on
the other, Frank shaking his head as he looked at me.
“This is one of the few times I’ve visited a club and liked it,” she looked at me and smiled. My
goodness, what did they feed kids these days to make them so forward? “Next time, you could
invite me out, just the two of us,” she struck a pose that surely worked with the guys.
“Sweetheart,” I said, feeling that we needed to end this. I couldn’t have this girl thinking
something would happen when it wouldn’t. I’d told enough lies already. She settled into her
seat and took my hands; but, well, Joy. “You’re a charming and very beautiful girl,” she looked expectant, “but I must confess, much to my regret,” I looked around and leaned closer to her face. She closed her eyes, seemingly expecting a kiss, which made me feel suddenly bad for her, poor thing, “that I’m gay,” I whispered in her ear and slowly pulled away, watching as she opened her eyes, surprised by my confession.
“I felt it was right to tell you,” I patted her hands that were still on mine. She didn’t react for
several seconds.

“Oh, of course,” she blushed, embarrassed, “I’m sorry,” she released my hands.
“But we can be friends,” I smiled at her, and she said nothing.
“You’re gay?!” she whispered with a shout and opened her eyes again. I wrinkled my nose at her new reaction.
“I’ve always wanted a gay friend!” she said happily. “I’d love to be your friend,” she took my arm. and rested her head on my shoulder, while I didn’t know what to do with so many reactions in a few minutes.
William raised an eyebrow in my direction and then looked back at Jessie.
“Let’s dance, you must be an excellent dancer,” she took my hand and led me to the dance floor, and I felt more relaxed.
Then a lively song started playing, and I just went with it. Valeria jumped over and joined us, putting me in the middle, and I started dancing with both of them. I was a hit.
I looked at Frank, who could only smile, and Will crossed his arms over his chest as he watched us, incredulous. Tonight, two girls had made a sandwich out of me, while he only had
one.
“He’s gay,” Joy explained to her friend Valeria, who opened her eyes and looked at me, to which I nodded, and they both clung to me more and danced sensually. They felt comfortable with gay guys, and I understood them. Tino had been the best friend, partner, dance companion, and accomplice I could have in life; I couldn’t love him more.
The evening ended, and we left the club.
“I loved meeting you,” Joy came closer to hug me while we were outside, and everyone waited
for their vehicles.
“Where are you going, Asher?” Frank questioned as he saw me typing something on my phone. I’d order a car, I gave him Alaia’s house address. “Come on, friend, I’ll take you. It’s on
my way,” he patted my shoulder.
“Go ahead, girls, I’ll go with Will,” Jessie told her friend and her sister, and a white SUV arrived
for them.
“I hope to see you again soon,” Joy kissed my cheek loudly, and the others watched us.
“It will be a pleasure,” I nodded to her, and they got into the car.
We said our goodbyes, and I got into Frank’s car while I watched Will open his car door for
Jessie.

“You’re a hit with the ladies,” Frank assured me as we left the club.
“You can say that again. Who better to understand them than me?” I said proudly, making him laugh.
I arrived at the house and said goodbye to Frank, thanking him. I’d realized he was a great guy and I liked him. I headed straight to the kitchen, needing to drink some water. I entered curiously to see who was inside, the lights were on.
“Aly,” I said upon seeing her serving herself something.
“Ash, how did it go?” I approached to hug her.
“I had a long day,” I sat on the counter, took off my beret, and let my dark hair fall over my back. “Will had the idea to go to a club with Frank, the cable guy, and some girls,” I told her as she poured some water for me.
“I got the scare of my life with Frank,” I commented to my cousin, and she frowned. “He’s a friend of our family and knows all of us, all of us,” I pointed to myself.
“No way,” Aly opened her eyes wide, and I told her what happened this afternoon, and she remembered the guy.
“I know him, we’ve worked with his company for years. You must give me the names of the people you’ll meet in the future.”
I confirmed, sure that I would. I couldn’t make any false steps. “And I’ll need to make some adjustments to better fit my hair,” I affirmed, and Aly nodded.
We talked a bit more and went up to the rooms where I saw my little ones sleeping. I said goodnight to my cousin and went to bed, thinking it would be inevitable for the donor and the
kids to meet at some point.
I settled into bed and closed my eyes, but the image of Will and Jessie leaving together came to mind. I frowned, not knowing why I was thinking about those two.

We enjoyed the night at the club, and I listened to Jessie talk about her life in Korea her last
failed relationship with a man there, and how hard it was for her to recover; they were going to
get married.
Jess and I had had a nice relationship as teenagers. I think she’s the first and only girl I’ve
loved who isn’t part of my family. I admit it hurt when she left; we even thought about getting
married when we turned twenty. I laughed at the memory. After we broke up, I realized the

advantages of being a single man and have been ever since, enjoying the benefits of being attractive and being a Garnett.
“Since I knew we were coming back, I couldn’t wait to see you,” Jessie hugged me, and I hugged her back. She hadn’t stopped being the nice girl I once knew.
“I’m glad to see you too, Jess,” I hugged her by the shoulders, and we both looked at the dance floor to find Alaia’s skinny cousin dancing with Joy and Valeria. I watched them dance
sensually and took a sip of my drink.
So, he did attract the girls‘ attention. I watched Asher enjoying himself with them, and I noticed Frank watching them with a smile on his lips.
“He’s a good guy,” Frank drank and kept smiling.
“Mmmm, I think he’s a bit strange,” I commented, “but in all the years I’ve lived, I’ve met people of all kinds, each unique in their way. So who am I to interfere with anyone’s independence? Live and let live.”
Frank laughed and nodded.
“I think he’s too young for a position like the one he has right now,” I assured, taking another sip. I hadn’t asked, but if it weren’t for the fact that he was working at T–World, I’d think he was 17 or 18 years old. He looked like a high school kid. I thought that’s why he caught Joy’s
attention.
Frank’s eyes remained on Asher while he kept laughing, and Asher returned his smile at some point. I frowned as much as I could. Frank had always liked women, but he seemed attracted
to Asher.
“If you keep looking at him like that, I’ll assume you’ve changed your preferences,” I
commented, completely puzzled.
“I like women, Will,” he clarified quickly without changing the direction of his gaze, “but I could make an exception, just this once,” he seemed to laugh at an internal joke, and I just looked at him, feeling confused.
