CHAPTER 104: I’m Pregnant Part 2
Nick
I let my children’s feet touch the ground and walked towards the office. My friend’s face had
dark circles under her eyes and she didn’t look like her usual self.
I opened the door, and she was looking around the office. She turned her face when she saw
me enter and smiled.
“Nick,” she said and hugged me. I received her with affection; she was a great friend to me.
“How are you?” I led her to the couch. I looked at her more closely and became concerned,
especially since she didn’t have her usual spoiled girl attitude.
“I’m fine,” she sighed and made a face, which made me tilt my head.
“Well, no, I don’t know,” she looked at her hands. “Finally, you’re with your butterfly,” she
changed the subject and gave me a slight smile.
“At last,” I exhaled, tired of thinking about everything we had to go through, “finally, I can be completely happy, Barbara.”
“That’s wonderful, Nick,” she was happy for me.
“What’s happened to you?” I focused on her face. She noticed and lowered her gaze;
something wasn’t right.
She sighed.
“I’ve brought you an invitation to the movie premiere,” she handed me an envelope.
“Wow, I’m happy for you, Barbara,” I said, looking at the paper. I remembered she had
mentioned it a couple of times when she wasn’t being so annoying, but we couldn’t talk much
because of her travels and because she was very discreet about the things that mattered to
her.
“It’s a co–starring role, as I told you,” she made a face, “but it would be the beginning,” she said
sadly, and I wasn’t understanding anything. This was her dream.
“Your parents,” I spoke, and she shrugged.
“They don’t know about the movie. It’ll hit them like ice water,” she laughed, “they probably
won’t want to see me, just like now, but it’s okay,” she waved her hand, dismissing it.
“I want you to come with your wife.”

“Of course,” I said and looked back at the invitation, but her phone rang and she took the call.
“No, I won’t accept it,” she vehemently denied, “I know it’s a leading role, but I can’t take it,” she
said to the person on the call, “I know, I know I wanted that role, but I can’t accept it now,” I
watched my friend and frowned.
She ended the call and looked at me. I crossed my arms, waiting for an answer to her refusal
of a role she wanted. She rolled her eyes.
“I’m pregnant, Nick,” she said, and I looked at her, feeling confused. She had never mentioned a
man or a relationship, and I had always listened to her, even if it didn’t seem like it.

Hundreds of things went through my mind. I smoothed my pink floral dress fitted to my body
and walked towards the half–open door. I couldn’t allow more doubts between us, and if I left
now, I would only be thinking about it. I needed to know what was happening. I mean, why did
she decide to appear after all this time to tell Nick she was pregnant?
“Excuse me for interrupting,” I said as I opened the door, and they both looked at me from the
couch.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry for including myself in your conversation without your permission, but I
thought I heard that you’re pregnant, Barbara,” I was direct, “I just wanted to make sure it’s not
my husband’s,” I pointed at him. Nick crossed his arms and made a ‘Are you serious?‘ gesture
that almost made me laugh.
“Oh, no!” Barbara waved her hands from side to side, “it’s not Nick’s, I assure you,” she said,
shaking her head, “I’m not into married men, even though he was supposed to be my
husband,” She tilted her head towards him, “but no, I only like idiots, apparently,” she
commented the last words in a low tone.
“Okay, then I’ll leave so you can finish your conversation,” Nick gave me a reproachful look,
“you can stay for the party,” I invited her, and she looked at Nick in surprise.
“Actually,” she spoke before I closed the door, “could you stay? I’d like to be able to talk to a
friend,” Barbara commented, and I looked at her, “okay, friend/enemy,” she said, and for some
reason, her attitude made me want to stay.
“As I was saying, I got pregnant by an i***t while I was filming in Europe. Don’t ask me how I
ended up in bed with him, I just know I repeated it several times,” she sighed, “my birth control
failed, and now I’m carrying his baby and I have to give up the opportunity to have a leading role that I wanted, because I don’t know what I’ll do with a baby that wasn’t in my plans. I don’t
know what decision I’ll make about it,” she spoke and looked at her hands, making a face.

This girl, is she the one behind the woman who seemed to be an airhead? But she’s not. I
must say that I’m even starting to like her.
“Not easy,” I commented, approaching them, and she shook her head.
Nick fixed his gaze on a paper in his hands and furrowed his brows.
“Wait, Vanessa Collins?” Nick looked at Barbara. “Who is Vanessa Collins?” he asked her.
“It’s me, it’s my stage name,” Barbara assured, and Nick looked at her and then at me.
“You were in Amsterdam a couple of months ago?” he asked as if his head had exploded.
“Yes, it was one of the movie locations,” she said, confused.
“I think I saw you,” Nick stroked his beard and shook his head, “you didn’t look like yourself,
your hair was blonde, your clothes covered you completely, and you came out of the same
hotel room where Cedric Van Holt was staying, the receptionist said your name was Vanessa
Collins,” he stated confidently, and I looked at Barbara, who blushed.
“s**t, it was me. I was covering up to escape from the filming,” she bit her nail, and I was just
realizing that Cedric had gotten her pregnant. Cedric the manwhore strikes again.
“Well, that was unexpected. Of course, I wasn’t going to tell you I was pregnant with your
friend’s baby,” she scratched her neck and looked at me. I noticed that her face looked paler;
she seemed nauseous.
“I’ll go get some water,” I said quickly.
“No, honey, I’ll go,” Nick stood up, and I approached Barbara.
“You stole my husband,” she commented, watching Nick leave, and laughed.
“And you stole my fiancé,” I expressed in the same way, thinking of Cedric. We both laughed.
“Well, this has been a surprise,” I took her hands and sat where Nick had been.
“It has been,” she affirmed and sighed.
“How many months along are you?” I questioned.
“I still don’t know. I haven’t dared to go to the doctor. I found out about the pregnancy through a common pharmacy test, and I’m not sure I want to be a mother. It’s never been in my plans. I have many goals to achieve; it’s the only thing that has mattered to me,” she pouted.
I nodded. I was sure she could fulfill her dreams, even if she decided to become a mother, as I had been able to do, but it was something she had to see for herself.
“I just have to tell you, as a woman and with everything that has happened to me with Nick,

whatever decision you make, Barbara, I think Cedric should know about it.”
