Clearing his name
ISABELLA’S POV
The tension hung in the air like a thick fog as I stared at the two figures before me. I wanted to
laugh but didn’t want to at the same time. I hadn’t expected to encounter so many people from my past in just one night and certainly not this one – Sophia.
The sight of her clinging to Xavier’s arm made my stomach churn, a knot tightening with every
second I looked at them. But then, I noticed something that momentarily caught my attention.
Xavier looked as if he didn’t expect Sophia to clung over him as he shifted uncomfortably
before pulling away, inching a bit further from her grasp. But this slight movement wasn’t enough to distract me from the pain flooding me.
Seeing them together made me feel as if I was being dragged back into the past I’d rather forget. Sophia’s schemes, Xavier choosing her over me, and the pain I’d endured because of
them. It all came back crashing over me like waves.
I clenched my fists, pressing my lips into a thin line. My face immediately turned cold and detached as I quickly turned to leave. Why did I even bother gaping at their interaction?
However, just as I took a step, Sophia’s voice stopped me in my tracks.
“Isabella?” Her tone was laced with surprise and a false sweetness I could obviously see
through.
A cold shiver ran down my spine as I felt the anger and hatred I had buried deep inside me start to surge. But instead of fleeing, I forced myself to turn back once more and face her.
Sophia’s eyes slightly widened as she gasped, a feigned surprise look flashing across her face. “It’s really you… I didn’t realize you were here just now.”
I resisted the urge to grimace at the sickeningly fake tone in her voice. I kept my face neutral,
and instead matched her false smile with one of my own.
“I was just passing by,” I replied, my voice equally fake as hers though edged with coldness.” I’ll be on my way. I don’t want to interrupt… whatever you guys are doing.”
As I turned to leave, she called out and stopped me again.
“It’s been years,” Her voice now carried a venomous undertone. “I never imagined you’d end up with Alpha Alexander from the Bluemoon Pack.”
This time, I was sure she must’ve seen me earlier with Alexander. Her words were deliberately provocative. I even witnessed how Xavier’s face darkened from the corner of my eyes. I could

still feel his gaze that had never left me since earlier, but I was too focused on Sophia’s wicked
smile to even care.
“Indeed, it’s been years.” I flashed her another smile, this time, accompanied by a small, mocking laugh. “They say people change through time, but it seems some people never do. Still sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong, Sophia?”
My tone was dripped with sarcasm. I made it so obvious and I didn’t miss how her face. contorted with anger and offense. I inwardly laugh, not waiting for her to respond as I finally excused myself with a confident air.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to leave.”
The moment I turned away, my smile immediately faltered. I quickened my pace, wanting to get as far away from them as possible. The disgust and hatred I felt after meeting Sophia
once more made my skin crawl, but I refused to let it consume me.
I wouldn’t let her affect me the way she once did. I had moved on, and I wouldn’t allow myself
to be dragged back into that darkness.
As I re–entered the hall, I suddenly heard Xavier’s voice in my mind, calling out through our
mind link.
“We need to talk.”
I rolled my eyes internally, my thoughts dripping with sarcasm. He wanted to talk with me? Now, out of all other time, with Sophia still by his side? I wanted to laugh at the audacity. But I
didn’t bother responding as I immediately blocked him from the mind link.
“I finally found you!” While walking into the crowd, I suddenly bumped into Hailey who had an
expression of relief on her face as soon as she saw me.
“Alexander’s been looking for you. He said he couldn’t find you just now.”
I sent her a small smile, slowly regaining my composure as I replied. “I just went out to get
some fresh air.”
She nodded at me, before we finally made our way towards another area where Alexander and Raymond were already waiting. They stood before a group of older men, all of whom radiated
authority.
As far as I knew, they were the some of the members of the werewolf council.
“Where have you been?” Alexander turned to me and whispered as we approached, concern
evident in his eyes.
I sent him a small, apologetic smile. “I got lost in the crowd and decided to take some air

outside.”
He nodded in understanding before he ushered me to turn to the men in front of us.
“I’d like to introduce you to the werewolf council elders.”
୭
The three men looked like they were in their late fifties but their presence was still powerful
and imposing. Alexander introduced me to them one by one.
“This is Elder Fred, Elder Thomas, and Elder Felix.” He introduced each of them.
“This is Isabella, one of the healers from my pack.” Alexander introduced me to them.

I nodded at them respectfully, offering a polite smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you all.”
Elder Fred and Elder Thomas returned my nods with a smile. However, something about the
other elder’s gaze, Felix, made my skin prickle. There was an odd glint in his eyes as he looked
at me, and when he spoke, his tone sent an unsettling feeling inside me.
“I’ve heard a lot about you, Ms. Isabella.”
Still, I forced myself to smile even with the growing unease inside me. Just then, Elder
Thomas suddenly spoke, slightly raising his tone which carried a hint of recognition as he
glanced behind us.
“Alpha Xavier!”
I slightly stiffened as soon as I saw Xavier approaching with Sophia trailing closely behind him. The sight made my stomach twist again, but before the tension could escalate, Alexander immediately excused both of us from the elders, making me sigh in relief.
I could feel a burning gaze on back – likely Xavier’s – but I ignored it. As we walked away, I
overheard Elder Thomas asking him as we left. “Is this your Luna?”
It made me feel numb, but I forced myself not to listen anymore and instead quickened my
pace.
“Are you okay?” Alexander’s hand gently rested on my back as he leaned in, his voice soft with
concern.
I flashed him a small smile, nodding. “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.”
The night dragged on, and finally, the ball came to an end. As we prepared to leave the venue, Hailey and I headed out, but she suddenly mentioned needing to use the restroom.
I accompanied her back inside the venue to find the nearest toilet while Alexander and
Raymond waited outside in the car. When we finally spotted one, I stood and waited for her
outside.

But then, I felt a sudden drop of temperature behind me. And before I knew it, a hand suddenly gripped my arm.
My eyes widened when I realized it was Xavier. His grip wasn’t forceful, but it was firm enough to drag me into a secluded hallway.
“Let go!” I struggled against him, my voice sharp with anger as I yelled.
“We need to talk.” He spoke in a low and serious tone.
When I finally managed to break free from his grasp, my voice rose as I snapped at him in fury. “What else do you need to tell me?!”
Xavier’s gaze stayed on my face for a moment. He looked serious yet also helpless at the same time before he finally spoke.
“I’m not with Sophia.”
His words struck me by surprise, making my heart skip a beat. But I didn’t let it overcome me. Instead, I raised a brow, my tone dripping with sarcasm as I looked straight at him.
“Do I look like I care? Whether you’re with her or not, it has nothing to do with me.”
“But I do care, Isabella.” Frustration flashed across his face as he suddenly shot back, his jaw
clenching. “You keep assuming I’m with her, and I need to clear my name.”
A mocking laugh escaped my lips as I stared at him in pure disbelief and sarcasm. “And why would you want to clear your name? Besides, I am not definitely assuming anything. She’s the
love of your life, isn’t she? Isn’t that why you divorced me? For her?”
My words seemed to strike a nerve. I witnessed how shock, anger, and confusion all warred on
his face. But I didn’t dwell on it.
I continued speaking, my voice turning low and cold this time. “But then, the past is past, and
frankly, I don’t care what relationship you have with her anymore.”
His expression darkened and his eyes suddenly reflected a turmoil I couldn’t quite decipher as his jaw tightened.
“I didn’t…”
Just as he was about to speak, he was interrupted when Alexander’s voice cut through the air.
“I thought you were a man of your word, Alpha Xavier.” Alexander approached and came behind me, pulling me to his side as he faced Xavier.
“A true alpha keeps his word. Have you forgotten the deal we made during the duel?”

Xavier eyes flashed darkly, a low growl emanating from his chest. “You’re out of this.”
“We had a deal, and you lost.” Alexander sneered, also almost growling beside me. “I don’t want any trouble tonight. I’ll let this go for now. But I’m warning you stay away from her!”
–
With that, Alexander pulled me as I let him drag me out of the area. As we left, I couldn’t. ignore the intense, troubled look in Xavier’s eyes on our last glance. But I forced myself to
keep walking.
Hailey rushed towards us from the other hallway with a worried expression on her face.
“Why won’t he just stop?” She complained as soon as I told her what happened.
I could only sigh in response, feeling drained from tonight’s events. We made our way outside
the venue, where I saw Raymond rushing towards us as soon as he saw us.
He had a grave look on his face as he stopped in front of us, his tone alarmed and serious.
“I just received a report. The pack is under attack by rogues – again.”
