Keeping him away
ISABELLA’S POV
“It’s not your fault.” Alexander’s tone softened slightly this time, but the worry still lurked in his
voice. “I told you, I’ll protect you from him.”
Guilt washed all over me again. That wasn’t what I needed to hear right now. I was too shaken, too troubled by everything that had happened. And I was worried of Alexander’s current
thoughts now.
I needed to set things right.
“Alexander, I’m really sorry, but…” I took the courage and looked up at him, finding it hard to
speak as I trailed off. “About earlier…”
He looked at me with anticipation in his eyes, as if he was bracing himself for what I was
about to say. But the hard expression on my face probably tells it all, making him sigh heavily.
“Alright, I know it.” His tone lowered in defeat and disappointment, making me feel even more guilty. “I apologize if I overstepped my bounds earlier.”
But it was all I could do. I didn’t want to give him any false hope.
“What about that Alpha?” He suddenly asked after a moment of silence, taking me off guard.
Apart from Raymond and Hailey, Alexander knew my past with Xavier. He was also aware that
Xavier was the father of Liam and Lily. But his concern only made me feel even more
conflicted.
But I managed to shake my head, looking away from him. “We have nothing to do with each
other.”
“But that’s not what it looks like to him.” His sharp tone made me feel numb.
I wanted to deny it, but the memory of Xavier’s actions earlier made my heart twist painfully. What was he even thinking? It was hard to believe that he fought with Alexander because of
me… because he saw us kissing.
“I didn’t expect him to do that.” It was all I could say, feeling myself confused and troubled too.
“He looks eager to have you back.”
Alexander’s words were hard for me to believe. Recalling what had happened five years ago
made it even harder to trust his claims. I couldn’t find any reason why Xavier would act that
way. Doesn’t he have Sophia?

“Maybe, it’s not the case…”
“Listen to me, Bella.” Alexander cut me off, this time, his tone was firm and determined. ” You’re in a dangerous situation now. The identity and existence of Lily and Liam could be
exposed if he keeps approaching you.”
His words sent a chill down my spine. The thought of Xavier discovering the truth about the
twins filled me with a cold feeling.
“He’ll leave once the annual council meeting ends, right?” I asked in dread.
“I don’t think so. He’s not the one to back off once he set his eyes on something.” Alexander
replied in a grave tone, filling me with more worry.
“We have to do something to keep him away.”
“What do you mean?” I asked in a low tone.
Alexander’s eyes were serious as he finally proposed his idea. “We’ll pretend to be a couple. I’ll make you the Luna of this pack. It’s the only way to make him back off.”
“What?!” My heart raced at the sudden suggestion, feeling a mix reluctance and shock. “I don’t
think this is a good idea, Alexander.”
“It’s for your own sake –”
“But still,” I cut him off, my voice slightly raising. “You know it too. Using the position of the
Luna as a pretense could only lead to more conflict. I don’t want to involve the pack on my
own mess.”
“I just want to help you, Isabella.” Alexander sighed as he continued speaking. “You’ve done
great contributions to the pack, you don’t have to worry about it. Besides, this is just a
pretense. Once we finally keep that Alpha away, we can stop pretending then.”
“I won’t use this to push you into anything. This is for you and the twins, consider it carefully.”
His words made sense, but the unease in my heart wouldn’t go away. Despite my hesitation, I knew that protecting my children had to come first. With a heavy heart, I finally agreed, weighing the pros and cons, even though the decision left me with an uncomfortable feeling deep inside.
The next day, I stayed at the packhouse, too afraid to take any risks. I sent a secret message
to the twins, explaining that I wouldn’t be able to see them, and tried to focus on keeping a low profile. Hailey was watching over them, but I still worried and missed them dearly.
After two days has passed, the final day of the annual council meeting had finally begun to take place. Raymond informed me that all Alphas would gather at the conference hall, and it

would take until the afternoon for the meeting to end.
I saw it a chance to go check on the twins, so I decided to leave the packhouse.
But as soon as I walked a few meters away, my arm was suddenly grabbed from behind.
Panic surged through me and I fought against the hold. Then my eyes went wide when I finally
saw who it was.
“Let me go!” I screamed in anger at Xavier.
But his grip remained unrelenting. He only pulled me closer with a dark look on his face.
“Come with me.”
“I don’t want to!” I spat back at him, trying to wrestle out of his grasp. “Let go of my hand now,
Xavier!”
“No,” He only tightened his hold around me, clasping my other wrist and completely trapping
me in his arms.
“You’re coming with me. We’re going back to the Lunar Crescent Pack whether you like it or
not.”
His words froze me in place, a cold dread washing over me. But before I could react, a familiar
soft voice screamed at the distance.
“Mommy!”
I spun around hearing that familiar voice. In an instant,
my heart lurched at the sight of Lily
with her innocent, wide eyes filled with confusion looking up at us.
