CHAPTER 056
I could hear the people in the village start to wake up and Walker said that the women were getting started on breakfast.
I said that I should get back and help them, but he said that they’ve got it. He isn’t finished
talking to me yet. There’s a lot more that he wants to know.
“There will be plenty of that. I don’t want them to think that I’m freeloading.” I said.
“Alright. Well, can we meet back up after breakfast?”
“Sure. Don’t you have Alpha duties to attend to?”
“Like what? I walk the forest and make sure that no one comes near the village. That’s all I
have to do.” He said.
“Damn. I am really starting to like this place. It’s so simple.” I said.
“I guess it’s not that simple in the castle.” He said.
I scoffed and started walking back to the village.
I saw the women working on getting breakfast ready, so I went to sit down with them and
started helping them.
Everything they had was from animals that they had in a barn not far from the village and they
grew all their own vegetables.
So preparing every meal was really preparing them from scratch.
It took a while to get breakfast out and then I walked to the barn with Dahlia and she showed
me the cows and chickens and pigs. Everything that they had.
They were breeding them as well because they were also food. Some of the time.
The men usually went out and hunted for the meat for meals. Which is as primitive as it gets.
I was helping feed the animals and I was surprised that they weren’t scared of us.
Usually animals can smell an apex predator and they do whatever they can to get away from
- us. But these animals weren’t doing that.
I could actually pat them and it felt great.
I could never have a puppy for that reason. It would have just ended up running away. So I would have to settle with just enjoying my time here in the barn.

I looked up at one point and Walker was watching us from outside the barn.
He was leaning against one of the shacks while he was watching us, but I just smiled at him before I went back and kept doing what I was doing.
Dahlia and I were in the barn for a while feeding and playing with the animals. I think she
thought it was funny that I was having so much fun playing with the animals that she sees every day. But I never had this before.
When we walked out of the barn I saw Kai and Roman standing guard again.
“Really? He still thinks I’m going to run away?” I asked.
“No. This is actually for your own protection.” Roman said.
“Protection from what?” I asked. And he looked over his shoulder at the same group of women that were roughly the same age as the Alpha. They were all standing in a group, giving me a
death stare.
“Oh. If that’s what you’re protecting me from then you can relax. I can handle them in my
sleep.” I said.
“They really don’t like you hanging around with the Alpha.”
“He’s just asking me questions about what it’s like in the world now.” I said.
We were then approached by another guy and I could tell that Dahlia was getting a little
nervous around him. It was obvious that she liked him.
“Hi. I’m Adam.” He said.
“It’s nice to meet you Adam.” I said.
“Dahlia. I just thought you’d like to know that I was speaking to the Alpha. He said that he was thinking about pairing us as mates.” Adam said.
“Really? I didn’t know that he was even considering giving me a mate.” Dahlia said.
“He’s been thinking about it for a while. Would you like to go for a walk and talk about it?”
Adam asked. But Dahlia looked at me.
“Don’t worry about me. You two go and have fun.” I said. So she hugged me and she walked
away with Adam.
I watched them walking away together and they looked really cute together. Like they were
basically love struck teens or something.
I walked around the village for a little while after that and I heard something off in the

distance. A lot further away than I could hear yesterday.
Does that mean the wolfsbane was wearing off?
I could hear the patrols running around the border, making sure that no one else comes snooping around.
But I ignored it and I walked to the river again, sitting next to the water to think for a minute.
“I thought I would find you here.” Walker said.
“Yeah. The women were making me a little nervous. I don’t really want to get into a fight while
I’m here.”
“Well, they are pretty feisty.” He said.
“Yeah. That’s not what I mean. I know you guys are tough. You have to be for what you do around here. But I’ve only just gotten control of my powers.” I said.
“Oh. And that wouldn’t be good for them, would it?” He asked.
“No.” I said.
Walker sat down next to me and I sat there staring at the water, trying to take deep breaths without making it too obvious that I was trying to steady my heart rate.
But at the same time, I could hear that Walker was doing the same thing.
“I better get back to helping the others.” I said, turning around quickly and leaving.
I helped out everyone with the chores that day and as soon as we finished dinner and finished
cleaning up, Dahlia and I went back to her shack to get ready for bed.
“So, those women that keep staring at me. Are they just jealous because the Alpha slept with
them and then wanted nothing to do with them or what?” I asked.
“What are you talking about?” She asked, confused.
“Did Walker sleep with them and then ignore them and not make them his mate?” I asked.
“The Alpha has never slept with any of them. I don’t know where you got that from.”
“It’s usually what Alpha’s do.” I said.
“Not ours. No one in this pack has s*x with anyone until they are mated to that person.” She
said,
“Even the Alpha?” I asked.
“Especially the Alpha. He leads by example.”

“And he doesn’t have a mate?” I asked.
“That’s right.” She said. So I nodded my head and I climbed into bed.
It wasn’t long before I heard Dahlia lightly snoring and I couldn’t help but think of Noah while I
was laying there. He had to be going out of his mind worrying about me. But then there was
also the other Alpha that I couldn’t get off my mind.
I slowly snuck out of bed and I crept across the shack and walked out the door without
waking Dahlia up.
The whole village was quiet now and all I could hear were the wolves on patrol in the forest.
I walked through the middle of the village until I got to the Alpha’s shack and I took a deep breath before I opened the door and walked inside.
I closed the door behind me and leaned on it.·
He was standing in front of the fire, deep in thought until I walked in and he stood up, looking at me the same way that I was looking at him.
