Chapter 60: Knocked Out
Zander
This woman is delusional and needs serious help. “Who has been taken care of?” I ask. She is about to answer, when one of the agents deliberately knocks into her. He spilled a bit of his champagne on her dress to distract her. I watched as he attached something to her bag, while he pretended to steady himself. “I am so sorry mam, I may have had a bit too much. champagne,” he slurred, acting tipsy and he was pretty good.
“You i***t, this dress is designer, and worth more than you make in a year. Get lost,” Keira screeched, and the agent lifted his hands in surrender and walked away. She takes a napkin. and wipes her metallic silver sequin dress off. God, she looks like a f*****g disco ball.
“Who has been taken care of, Keira?” I tried again. “That stupid b***h that is always clinging to you. I don’t know why you allow it. But you succeeded in making me jealous, so you can drop the act. She won’t be a problem anymore. We can finally be together,” she says trying to
hug me.
I moved away and grabbed her arm and pulled her inside. “Slow down, Zander, these heels–are slippery,” she yells, but I don’t give a f**k. I would drag her by her hair if I had to. “What did you
do?” I yell when we were inside and away from the other guests. “Mom just fixed the problem
for me. Now you can be with the woman you really love, me.” she answers, polishing her nails
on her dress.
“You better hope that you are wrong and Liz is okay. I swear on my life, if anything happens to her, I will kill you with my bare hands.” I say through gritted teeth, and she yelps in shock. Ricardo walks over and whispers in my ear, “Liz is fine, let her go. We caught another suspect.”
I look at Keira, and it’s hard for me to hide my hatred for her. “If you know what’s good for you, you will leave now. If I find Liz and even one hair on her body is out of place, I will come for you. I will strangle you with my bare hands and watch as the light leaves your eyes.
The smile of satisfaction on my face will be the last thing you see. I don’t care about you, Keira. I never have and I never will. Go run to mommy and pray she can protect you from my wrath.” I say with as much venom as I can muster. I take one step toward her and her eyes
widen.
She looks at me with teary eyes, before she turns and runs away. For someone who said her heels were slippery, she sure made a fast getaway. “Have you ever considered acting, bro? That was epic,” Ricardo says, slapping me on my back. “Who says I was acting?” I ask him

with a wink and he just shakes his head.
“Where is Liz? What happened?” I asked. “She is okay, don’t worry. She is back outside with
Robyn, Vance and Mark. A woman posing as a guest tried to grab her, but Liz knocked her out
before the agent could intervene,” Ricardo says with a smirk.
“What do you mean, she knocked the woman out?” I asked, confused. “She quite literally knocked the woman out. She can tell you all about it. Go to your girl, I will check in with Chris
and Perez. The tracker was planted successfully and it’s online. We will keep you updated,”
Ricardo says, and I nod and go back outside to find my Liz.
My eyes meet hers the minute I step outside, and she winks at me. This woman. I was so worried about her, and there she was looking as radiant as ever. Thank God she is okay.
Liz
When she left to use the restroom…
My bladder is becoming a problem. Why do I always need to pee at the worst times? Maybe I need to drink less. But according to Ricardo, this is a good way to see if baby bear will approach me. I mentally chuckled at my genius name for her.
Okay, maybe I am the only one who thinks it’s genius. But at least I got the others to use my nicknames. Even Chris refers to Giselle as kitty when he speaks about her. She pretended to know nothing about Martha and said she was only bluffing to get to Zander.
Her caller log clearly shows she has been in contact with Martha. She even saved her name as ‘Martha aka Maria‘. I can’t believe she is so stupid. She is a f*****g lawyer. Zander said that her bar exam score was higher than most of the candidates in her year.
By all accounts, she is a good attorney. So how can she be that dense? It doesn’t make sense. If a man doesn’t want you, step away and move on. I am a testament to that. She is still in custody for aiding and obstruction of justice and God knows what else Perez hit her with. I am just glad she is out of our lives.
When I enter the bathroom, only one stall is occupied. Ricardo said the agent would be in the stall, pretending to use it. I was about to enter the stall right next to it, when the door to the bathroom opened. A beautiful woman in a black dress walks in and smiles at me and I smile
back.
I didn’t notice her outside, but I haven’t gotten to meet everyone yet. “You look really lovely tonight, Liz. And congratulations by the way” she says, smiling brightly. But something about her smile and demeanor seems off, and forced. Her eyes are also darting around at our

Hmm, I don’t trust her. Maybe she is another one of Zander’s fans. I swear that man can be so
oblivious to his good looks. I am not complaining, because it means less competition for me. Though he never gives me reason to feel insecure. She takes her bag off her shoulder, and puts it down on the counter, with her hand still in it.
“Thank you, you look lovely too. But you have me as a disadvantage. I don’t think I have ever had the privilege of meeting you. I would have remembered someone as beautiful as you,” I say, and chastise myself mentally, because maybe that was a bit too much. What if she thinks
I am coming onto her?
“My, you are charming,” she laughs. “Just give me one minute, I drank way too much champagne.” I say and turn to enter the stall. I look in the mirror and notice her moving my way. She still has her hand in her bag, and I am not sure what she is holding, but I am not
taking any risks.
Just as I am about to close the stall door, she stops it with her body. I see her try to pull her hand out of her bag, so I push the door against her and she stumbles back. She still tries to free her hand from her bag, but I grab her wrist with my one hand, and use my other hand to bang her head against the tiled wall.
D
She closes her eyes and slumps down. The other stall door bursts open and a woman in a gray dress steps out with a gun drawn. I raise my hands in surrender, and she looks at me, before she looks at the unconscious woman. She bursts out laughing, and I am so shocked and running on adrenaline, that I start laughing too.
“Why are we laughing,” I managed to get out through my laughter. “That was so freaking awesome. You didn’t even need me,” she says when she stops laughing. “Why didn’t you use the code word?” she asks. “Sorry, I forgot. I thought she might be one of Zander’s admirers,” I said, looking down at the unconscious woman, who is now bleeding from the back of her
head.
I didn’t mean to hit her head that hard. Oh my God, I am in so much trouble. I have never hurt anyone before. “I am sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt her. I panicked when she tried to attack me,” I say, now going into panic mode. The agent kicks the woman’s bag away and a gun slides out. My eyes widened as I looked from the gun to the agent.
“It’s okay Liz, you are safe now. I am agent Lucinda Greeves. I was supposed to protect you, but your did a stellar job of that all on your own. If I didn’t know any better, I would think you are after my job,” she says, making me chuckle. She touches my shoulder and gently takes my

arm and leads me out of the bathroom.
I
“Thank you, Lucinda, you effectively stopped my mini–breakdown I was about to have,” I say,
and she chuckles. “You would’ve been fine. You are stronger than you think. Now go, enjoy your engagement party,” she says with a wink, before she goes back into the bathroom.
I shook my head and chuckled. Agent Perez comes over smiling, while I am still just standing there. “You are one tough cookie, Liz. Go enjoy the party, we will chat after,” he says, and then he also enters the bathroom. I walk away and stop dead in my tracks. Damn it, I didn’t get to
pee.
“What’s wrong, doll?” Vance asks, appearing out of nowhere and giving me a fright. “Jeez, wear a bell will you.” I say, clutching my chest, and he laughs loudly. “I didn’t get to pee, someone is unconscious in there.” I whisper. He takes my hand and leads me with him to the
mens bathroom.
He peeks inside, before he lets me in. “Chop chop,” he says, and I just shake my head and go into a stall. I finally get to pee and quickly wash my hands, before we both head back outside to the party. I caught up with Robyn, who is chatting with Mark, Vance’s husband.
By now, Zander should’ve heard about what happened. I look around and don’t see him, sol chat with the guys. Mark is a hoot and clearly handles Vance like a pro. I look around again for Zander, but I don’t see him. I do, however, see something that makes me smile.
Chris and Toby are standing alone in one corner talking, which is not odd at all. They are friends and have known each other for a long time. What got my attention is the way they were looking at each other. Could Toby be the younger man Chris hinted at having his eye on?
Hmm, I like it. I like it alot.
I looked away when they both looked my way and saw Zander at the door. I smile at him when our eyes lock and give him a wink. He smiles that sexy smile I love, and rushes over to me and pulls me into his arms.. “Please tell me you are okay,” he whispers in my ear.
“I am fine, Zander.” I say smiling, and he mirrors my smile and kisses me. “Jeez, get a room. Or better yet, let’s eat something first. We are all starving,” Vance says, and we all start laughing. God, I love my friends.
