Chapter 45: A Trap Set

“What now?” I asked agent Johnson. “All we can do now is wait to see what they do. We will keep you safe, Liz.” he says, trying to placate me, and I just smile at him and nod. We sit
around and wait and nothing happens.
At around 10pm, my phone rang. The call was from an unknown number and I answered it when I was directed to. “I see you did not heed our warning, Elizabeth.” A distorted voice says.
“I don’t know you and I don’t owe you anything.” I answered.
“We have your husband, Elizabeth. And we will kill him if you don’t transfer the money right
now.” The voice says. “Ex–husband, and you can keep him. He is the one that owes you money,
not me. I am very sure that he could not have wracked up a 10billion dollar bill with you, so you are definitely full of crap.” I say, and agent Johnson gives me a look that says not to push
- it.
“You are right, but let’s just call it interest. You have exactly 20 minutes to do the transfer or
Kyle dies.” The voice says and hangs up. “They hung up too quickly boss,” the agent said that
was tracing the call, and agent Johnson nods. “You should be careful not to push their
buttons. These are dangerous men.” Agent Johnson tells me.
“Well, they are full of s**t and need to be told that.” I said and crossed my arms stubbornly. I
can see Zander wants to chuckle, but now isn’t the time. “Do we just wait for them to call
back? We are exhausted,” Zander says. “Just wait around to see if they call back in 20
minutes.” Agent Johnson says, and we both nod.
Exactly 21 minutes later, my phone rings again. “I admire feisty women, but my patients has
it’s limits. Maybe you need a bit of motivation,” the distorted voice says. My phone alerts me
to a message, before I can answer him. I open the message, and it’s a picture of Kyle, lying on
the floor, cuffed to a wall. He is covered in blood and his eyes are closed.
“That is just a taste of what awaits Kyle if you don’t pay the money,” the voice says. I honestly can’t tell if it’s a man or a woman. They are using a voice scrambler, but judging by the depth of the voice, it’s probably a man. “Like I said, keep him, he is all yours. His pain doesn’t affect me, it’s my turn to turn my back on him, like he did me. You are wasting your time; I won’t give you a dime.” I said.
“Cold, I like it, it’s such a turn on. Then the hard way it is. I will see you soon. Wear something nice for me. We can have a bit of fun before you join Kyle,” the voice says and ends the csil

before I can tell him to f**k off. Definitely a man then. I looked up at Zander and I could see he looked pissed.
“No matter what happens, you will be safe. We have enough men to handle whatever he has planned.” Agent Johnson says. “If its okay with you, we will head to bed.” I say and he nods. Let us know if anything is happening.” Zander says and agent Johnson agrees. I get up and
Zander takes my hand, and we leave the lounge.

No one followed us this time, and I could hear them whispering to each other. We make our way to the foyer and quickly and quietly rush to the coat closet. This was the plan Zander came up with. Luckily, we don’t have to fight our way to safety. They seem to be oblivious and deep in their own planning and discussions.
I am worried about Ricardo and his men, but Zander assured me they can handle themselves and help is on the way. Zander opens the door to the panic room, and they must’ve heard Jojo speak, because I heard people running our way, just before the door closed.
“Are you in danger, Zander?” Jojo asks. “Yes, the men outside want to kill us.” Zander answers. “That won’t do, shall I send the alert?” Jojo asks Zander. “Yes, please Jojo, and give them a warm welcome.” Zander says smirking. He shows me to look at the monitor that shows what’s happening outside the door.
I smile broadly as I watch them try to open the door, and everyone that touches the door gets an electric shock. “Warm welcome initiated and the alert has been sent and received. Please
stay inside until help arrives,” Jojo says. “I have my Liz with me,” Zander says.
“Welcome Zander’s Liz, I will keep you safe.” Jojo answers and I have to chuckle. I suppose I will be forever known as Zander’s Liz. Even in this life–or–death moment, Zander managed to make me smile. I love this man with all my heart and I pray that we make it out of this, just so
I can show him every day how much I love him.

I took out the encrypted phone and tried to call agent Perez again, but no luck. I call Chris and tell him that plan b is in effect. He will let the rest know. I just pray everything goes according to plan, Going up against so many government agents is a risk, but we have enough evidence gathered for when the s**t hits the fan.
*I do feel safe in here, but I am worried about the others,” Liz says. “Robyn and Rosa are with
Toby and Chris, so they are safe. All we need to do is make sure that we are safe and Jojo will definitely handle that for us. Why don’t you sit down for a bit? I will try agent Perez again. I am starting to worry they did something to him.” I say, and she nods and sits down on the couch

and watches the monitors.
I tried to call him again, as I also watched the monitors. I see them running around and
scrambling to try and open the door. Ricardo’s men are already hidden, and will strike as soon
as they are given the signal. We can’t risk them harming Ricardo’s men to try and get to us.
There was still no answer from agent Perez, so I let Chris know to go check on him. Hopefully
he is okay. Liz’s phone rings and it’s that unknown number again. “Should I answer?” she asks,
and I nod, and she puts it on speaker and I start recording.
“What are you doing Elizabeth?” the voice asks. “I don’t know what you are talking about.” She says and the person laughs. “Like I said, I like a feisty mami chula. But you are really starting to piss me off. Do you want to watch everyone you love die?” the person asks.

“Everyone I love is safe from you.” Liz says. “Really? I bet your aunt would disagree.” The
person says. “Ha, have at her too. She is even worse than Kyle. At least he isn’t a murderer yet,
Liz says, and the person screams in frustration and hangs up. She gets an alert for a text
and shows me the picture.
Her aunt, Elain and Tiffany, are also tied up and bloodied. They look like they have been beaten. These people really don’t know Liz at all if they think they can get to her by using people that tried to harm her. f*****g idiots, but this works in our favor either way.
“I have a feeling they got their information from Kyle. It just shows me that man never knew me at all.” Liz says and I nod. “Well, they seem to be doing us a favor, so let them have at it.” I say. “They are right though, as much as I hate all three of them, I hate seeing anyone hurt
because of me.” she says.
“None of this is your fault Liz, please stop blaming yourself. They all made their own choices and you made yours. You chose to live and be happy and that is what you will get. I will make sure of it.” I say and she smiles and nods. “Zander, they are trying to use explosives. You will be okay, but it may damage your home.” Jojo says, and we both look at the monitors.
f*****g assholes, they really are trying to blow the door open. I am sure Ricardo explained in detail that nothing could penetrate the door. But they seem to be desperate. I watch the monitor that shows the footage from outside, and I see three black vans pull up to the door.
The men rush out of the vans and split up. I see Horis leading them and right next to him is Kyle. So much for him being unconscious and bloodied. The woman’s injuries look real
though. That makes me know this cartel doesn’t value a woman’s life.
I watch as agent Johnson meets Horis and they start talking. Horis is yelling at him, while he just looks down. We never told them about these cameras. They only know about the visible

ones. I saw them disable the cameras, and I am sure they think we can’t see anything from
inside here.
Jojo is recording everything, and it is being broadcast exactly where we want it to. I tried agent Perez again and this time he answered, but he didn’t sound like himself. “Thank God, I have been so worried about you.” I said. “Sorry about that, my wonderful partner knocked me out and handcuffed me. Thank you for sending your man. We are on our way to you. What is happening there?” he asks.
fill him in, and I hear Chris in the background, so I know he is okay. “Things are going to get · really bad soon. Do not, I repeat, do not leave that room.” Agent Perez says. “Understood, we will leave when you give us the go ahead. Please be careful, we are counting on you.” I said.
“I will see you soon.” He says and ends the call. Liz gets up and puts her arms around me. I hold her tightly, and we just stand like that and watch the monitors. I am so grateful she is here and safe and not out there with those maniacs. All we can do now is hope that everything goes the way we planned.
I don’t know how much time passed as we watched the monitors. I see military trucks pull up, and then I see Domingo, Rosa’s son. He came through like I knew he would. They surround the house, and then I see Ricardo and his men also join them. A few minutes later, FBI vans pull up, and I am so grateful to see agent Perez and Chris speak to Dom and his men.
“The gang is all here.” I said, showing Liz to look at the monitor. She smiles when she sees them and looks up at me. “Dom too?” she asks and I nod. “They are all here to help.” I say, feeling very proud of the amazing people in my life. Now I can only hope that none of them get hurt protecting us.
