“Why are you always so sweet? You are quite the charmer, aren’t you?” she says and I chuckle. – “Is it working?” I ask, and she smiles and nods, and I chuckle. “I think you know how I feel, but I will tell you anyway. Life is too short, I realize that now.
I am falling in love with you, Zander. I don’t know where this thing between us will go, but I am willing to take the risk. I may get hurt again, but I have a feeling that reconnecting with you is
the best thing that could’ve happened to me. I won’t waste my life on regret, not anymore.” she
says.

I bent down and kissed her lips softly. When I pulled away, she smiled. “While I was waiting for news about you, I had the same thought. You won’t believe how happy I am to hear you say those words. I never told you how I really felt about you, because I didn’t want to be the reason
you lost in your divorce. I am in love with you Liz; I liked you back then too. I just want a chance to make you happy.

We can take it at any pace you like, as long as I get to be with you in the end. Things would’ve
been so different if I was just a little bit braver back then. I was so scared you would reject me, that when I finally got the courage to ask you out, it was too late” I said, and she looked at me
and frowned.
”
“What do you mean?” she asks. “The last time I saw you in college was on your birthday, do
you remember that?” I ask and she nods. “Yeah, I was surprised to see you there.” she says.
Robyn helped me set up a romantic dinner for the two of us, and I was going to ask you out.
But then I saw you and Kyle kissing. Then Robyn told me that she just found out that you were.
dating him. She still wanted to ask you out, because she didn’t like you being with Kyle. But I
didn’t want to make a fool of myself. So, I left and hoped that it wouldn’t work out between the two of you. But when I heard he proposed to you, I gave up all hope of ever being with you.” I
said.
“If I had known you liked me back then, I would never have dated Kyle. I tried to talk to you so
many times, because I had the biggest crush on you. But you always seemed to avoid me, so I
gave up,” she says and I frown. “I thought you were just being nice,” I say, and she chuckles.
“Do you realize that we wasted years we could’ve spent together, because we were both
scared of rejection?” she says and I nod. “Well, it doesn’t matter anymore, all that matters is
here and now. All we can do now is make up for lost time.” I said, and she smiles

“I want to hear more about how much you want me, but the doctor needs to check you over first.” I say, and she chuckles, but immediately stops and scrunches her face. “No laughing, it hurts too much.” she says. “I am sorry, no more jokes. I will get the doctor.” I said and took out my phone and messaged Dr. Willis.
He came walking in a few minutes later with a big smile on his face. “I am glad you are awake. I am Dr. Wayne Willis and I am your attending physician. It’s a pleasure to meet you,
Elizabeth.* Doc says and she smiles. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Dr. Willis. Thank you for fixing me up. You can just call me Liz.” She says and he smiles and nods.

“Zander, will you give us a few minutes, so I can check Liz over please?” he asks me and I nod.
As much as I want to stay, I don’t want her to feel uncomfortable. “He can stay doc, I don’t
mind.” Liz says, and I smirk at Wayne. He just rolls his eyes at me, but smiles at her. He starts to check her over, and I sit patiently and quietly in the chair. I just watch and listen in as he
explains everything that is wrong with her.
He checks each and every bruise and dressing, before he takes the bandage off her head. I
look at the gash and all I feel is anger. Maybe I need to run Tiffany over with my car. She
needs to feel some of that pain she likes to inflict on others. I wonder if she is mentally stable.
Who in their right mind would do the things she does?

“Everything looks good, and I am very happy with your progress. You need to stay here another day or two so we can monitor you. If all goes well, you can go home on Thursday.” He says
and she nods.
“Thank you, doc,” she says. He gives her an injection and increases her pain medication before
he makes notes in her chart. “I will have something sent for you to eat. Eat slowly and rest if
you can. I will be back later to check on you.” He says to her. He really is a good doctor and his
bedside manner is the best I have seen.
“And you, let her rest and keep her stress to a minimum. As much as I like you, I will kick you
out if you mess with my patient’s recovery.” He says and I chuckle as he leaves. “Do you know him personally?” she asks me. “I do, he was one of my first clients, and he is also Toby’s father.” I say and proceed to tell her what happened.
“Some people have no shame. I can see he is a good doctor and very patient. That’s probably why she targeted him. I am glad you could help him. And now I am extra excited about meeting Toby.” She says and I chuckle. “Careful Liz, I am a very jealous man.” I say, and she
gives me a look with one eyebrow raised.
“Then you better be sure to keep me entertained enough, so my eyes don’t roam,” she says. ”
Chapter 15: Defining Us
Hmm, that I can definitely do.” I say and lean down and kiss her. I deepen the kiss and she
opens for me. We kiss for a while until I hear someone come in.
“Don’t stop on my account.” A nurse says, coming in, and I chuckle. She wheels the table over
and puts a bowl of soup and some cut–up berries on it. “I am glad you are awake, this man
was driving us crazy. You have to eat slowly, but try and get as much in as you can. Do you want me to feed you?” the nurse asks. “No, thank you, I will help her.” I say and Liz just looks.
at me.
“I will be back to check on you later. Press the call button if you need anything or if you are feeling unwell. Enjoy,” she says as she leaves the room. Everyone on this floor is really so great and very professional. She is right though, I was a nightmare to get rid of. I was very impressed with all of them. They handled me very well.
Except one nurse that kept trying to make a pass at me. Doc Willis had her removed from the floor and I haven’t seen her again. I am very grateful he caught her first hand. She was pissing
me off and wouldn’t take no for an answer. She wasn’t very good at her job either, because she
was more concerned about me than Liz.
I take the bowl and spoon and start feeding her. She tried to protest, but I was having none of it. I will be looking after her and she just has to deal with it. She is doing well, and I am sure
she will finish all of it. “I have been keeping Robyn up to date with your condition. She is very pissed because they won’t give her time off. But she calls every few hours to check in. Rosa also came to see you every day. She is very worried about you,” I said, and she smiled.
“I am so lucky to have you, Robyn and Rosa. I don’t really have anyone else,” Liz says. “You will always have me and Rosa and I seem to be a package deal. I would like you to meet her son, he was here too,” I said. “As soon as I am on my feet I will cook for them. We can invite them over for dinner. Hopefully Robyn is also back by then.” She says and I smile.
“That sounds perfect. I love your use of the word ‘we‘. I had hoped you would see the house as your home, our home.” I said. “It felt like home for a while now, I was just too scared to admit it to myself. But not anymore.” She says, and I smile and continue to feed her. When the soup is
done, she looks at me and smirks.

“You’re a pretty good nurse. Maybe we should get you a nurse’s outfit. I think you will look hot while taking my temperature.” She says and I chuckle. “I like this new feisty version of you. Is she here to stay?” I ask. “If you want her to,” she says. “I don’t care, I just want you, any and every version is okay with me.” I say and she smiles.

I want to get those divorce papers signed so that we can be together.” She says and I smile. ”
That sounds like a plan. But first, you need to rest so you can get better. Sleep for a bit, I will stay and watch over you.” I said, because I could see her eyes were starting to droop.
“Okay, I will just sleep for a bit,” she says, yawning and closing her eyes. She falls asleep so quickly, that I can’t help but chuckle softly. I know it’s the pain meds, and doc is right. She needs rest and I know she will be out for a while. I kissed her forehead softly and walked over
to the window.
I take out my phone and activate the recording option on my phone. I have to be prepared when I deal with idiots. I dial Kyle’s number, and he answers on the second ring. I hate talking to this fucker, but I am a professional. I can’t let my emotions get in the way of my job. “Kyle Stanford,” he says in answer.
“Mr. Stanford, its Zander Caine. My client has awoken from her coma and would like to meet with you in three days. We can meet at my office at 10am so that you can both sign.” I say.” Whatever, I will be there with my attorney.” Kyle says. I really hate this man. He is just plain rude and immature. I don’t know what Liz ever saw in him.
