CHAPTER 31
ELSIE POV
I was woken in the middle of the night to the entire building shaking and Henry jumped up
right beside me and grabbed a hold of me to make sure that I was alright. It felt like an earthquake or something. But that made no sense here.
We rushed out of our room and saw debri everywhere in the halls and the stairs were broken
and we needed to be careful getting downstairs to the first floor. Henry tried to pull me outside when I noticed the basement door open.
I stopped him and I ran to the basement and down the stairs where I saw everything in shambles. This is where the explosion originated from. I was sure of it. I was the guard lying
dead on the floor and I ran to Beau’s cell. Henry pulled out his set of keys and opened the door
and Beau was unconscious on the ground.
The two other prisoners weren’t in their cell’s. At least not all of them. I could make out little
parts of them lying around but there was dust everywhere. We couldn’t see a whole lot in the
dark down there.
I ran over to Beau to try and wake him up but he was hurt. He was hurt really badly so Henry
picked him up and took him upstairs and out of the packhouse. People were starting to gather
around everywhere asking what happened. But we didn’t have an answer for them. We didn’t have a clue what happened.
So we ran Beau to the hospital and straight into emergency. We were looking around
everywhere.
“Where’s Ivy?” I yelled.
“She’s not here.” The nurse says.
“Why isn’t she here? There was an explosion. This is the first place she would have gone.”
Henry says.
“We haven’t seen her.” The nurse says.
“She went home. I saw her at about midnight and she said that she was going home and
going to bed.” Spencer says coming into the room.
“She was in the packhouse.” I say looking at Henry. So he turned around and ran back to the
packhouse. I stayed there with Beau and he was starting to wake up. He was coming in and
out of consciousness.

‘She’s not in her room.‘ Henry says in the mindlink.
“Spencer. Are you sure that Ivy said that she was going home? She’s not in her room.” I say.
“The basement.” Beau mutters out.
“What Beau?” I asked.
“She was in the basement visiting me when it happened. She’s in the basement.” Beau says. And I felt goosebumps rise all over my skin when he said that.
‘Henry. She was in the basement with Beau when it happened. She’s still down there.” I mind
linked him. And once the warriors heard that she was in trouble they all ran to the packhouse
as well.
My phone then started ringing and it was Asher’s name on the screen. But I couldn’t bring
myself to answer it.
HENRY POV
As soon as I got that mind link from Elsie my heart started beating a million miles a minute. I ran to the kitchen to grab a torch and straight back down to the basement. There were fallen beans and cement from the walls and ceilings. There was dirt everywhere. I had no idea where
to look. I was too scared to walk further into the room in case I stood on her. I knew that she
was in trouble if she wasn’t out of here now. I knew that she was hurt really badly.
I was soon joined by some warriors who came to help me search for Ivy. We were really careful about where we stood and we started from the entrance. We would pick up every piece
of debris that we could find and slip it over until we were sure that she wasn’t underneath it.
We kept going at that pace going further and further into the dungeon and then I did feel something under a large piece of cement. I got the guys to help me and we pulled it off and Ivy was lying there unconscious with a whole lot of other debris on her as well.
We managed to get to the top half free but she was impaled on a metal pipe and we didn’t
know how to get that off of her.
One of the warriors then came down to the basement with one of the refugees who was trained as a paramedic. He helped us carefully remove every little bit of debris until she was free except for the pipe that was sticking through her stomach.
We needed to get some power tools down here to cut it, which was more of an effort then people would think. We needed to plug it in upstairs and then add extension cords to it so it was long enough and we were able to cut it short enough so that we could move her out of there safely.

CHAPTER 31
We got her to the hospital and Elsie broke into tears when she saw Ivy being placed on the bed next to Beau. She was placed on her side and the pipe was still visible from the front and
back.
We needed to know if it went through any organs or anything like that. We needed to make sure that she was going to live through this. But luckily, we had nurses and we didn’t have any doctors but a lot of refugees had medical training. Just not to be a doctor. They were paramedics and firemen and stuff like that. But every little thing helped.
“Don’t you have a doctor here?” One of them asked.
“She is the closest thing that we have to a doctor. She would know exactly what to do right
now.” Elsie told them.
So some were working on Ivy and some were working on Beau. They both had major injuries
and needed a lot of help and I saw Elsie’s phone going off but she didn’t answer it. And she
looked at me with worry on her face.
“It’s Asher. He knows that something is wrong. I haven’t been able to answer the phone. I don’t
know what to say.” Elsie says.
“I’ll call him after the warriors in the basement peace together what happened. At least that
way we will have a few answers for him.” I say.
I looked out the door of the emergency entrance and I could see the entire pack gathering outside. They had all been woken by the explosion and they knew that people were hurt. But I
don’t think they knew who was hurt at this point.
I wasn’t going to address them just yet either. Not until we had some answers.
They took an x–ray of Ivy and they saw that the pipe was only millimeters from her liver. In order to pull it out they would need to do it in an exact way where it didn’t puncture the liver. Because that would mean surgery otherwise she would bleed out.
She was still unconscious and so was Beau but his injuries were easier to treat. They gave Ivy anesthetic in case she tried to wake up during the procedure and two men held her steady while another one had a hold of the pipe. He had to move it so gently while someone was holding an ultrasound machine over the area and the man was watching the screen while he was pulling out the pipe. That was the only way he could see weather or not he was going to
hit the liver or not.
Everyone stopped what they were doing. They were all watching and holding their breath while he was pulling the pipe out and when we saw the end of the pipe come out of her body everybody let out a breath of relief.

But it wasn’t over. She was bleeding a lot. So they got a blood bag hung up and inserted it into an IV while they were stitching her up and she wouldn’t lose any more blood. And they
checked her over for more injuries.
That’s when they noticed the bone protruding from her leg and knew that it was a serious
break and they got started on that.
Beau had a major head injury and they needed to take him for a scan to reveal the extent of the injuries and I had to stay back and wait. And Elsie sat next to Ivy holding her hand. Telling her that everything was going to be okay.
It was around 6am when the warriors came to the hospital with their report. And they told me that the other two prisoners set off an explosive. That’s what did all of this. And I didn’t even
have a chance to call Asher.
The emergency doors bursted open with such force that I thought they were going to break and Asher forced him way through the room and the Alpha aura coming off of him right now was palpable. People got out of his way really quickly and he walked down the hallway with no one in his way but they were all against the wall with their heads bowed.
“What the f**k happened?” He demanded.
“The prisoners set off an explosive in the dungeon.” I say. And he saw Beau lying unconscious on the bed still being treated by the other people.
“Where’s Ivy? Why the hell isn’t she doing this? She’s more qualified to treat him.” Asher yelled. And I slowly moved my eyes to the bed next to Beau and he followed my line of sight to see Ivy lying next to him. Unconscious, stomach wrapped with blood still seeping through the bandages and people trying to fix her leg.
Asher went silent. He stumbled over to Ivy and grabbed her hand and I could see his body starting to shake. He was more than angry. I’ve never seen him like this.
“Did those two prisoners die?” Asher asked.
“Yes. It was a suicide mission.” I say.
“Good.” He said through gritted teeth.
“We didn’t know that she was in the basement. We got Beau out but he became lucid at one point and told us that she was there. We had to go back for her. To search for her. It was midnight and we didn’t even know that she had come home yet. Yesterday was crazy for her. Everyone wanted her for something or another.” I tried to explain.
‘So she was just left there?” Asher yelled standing up.

“Son. These people here have medical experience. Medics and firemen. They aren’t doctors
but it’s the closest thing that we have. We need to trust that they know what they’re doing.” I
say.
“I don’t need to trust anyone with my mate. If she dies, then so does every single person in
here that worked on her because you did something wrong.” Asher threatened. And they all
looked at him with fear in their eyes. Rightfully so. He was furious. And I could understand
that. If anything like this happened to Elsie then I would be the same thing.
I saw Asher pull out a rag and wet it and start wiping the dirt off of her face and cleaning her
up a little bit. But mostly he sat there holding his hand, like a broken man. I had never seen
him this vulnerable before. But that’s what a mate bond does. That is the one thing that will
make you vulnerable.
Asher hated people seeing him like that. But at this moment, it was clear that he really didn’t
care.
