CHAPTER 27
“Alpha. I am Elijah. I’m not an Alpha but I have found all these people in my travels. We come from all different packs who have survived Jackson. We come here seeking asylum because
we know that Jackson won’t be coming after you any time soon. Everyone knows that. Which
makes this the safest pack in the world right now.” The man says. And Alpha Asher looked at
- me.
“How many people do you have here?” I asked.
“There’s 54 of us from 8 different packs. We need help. We wouldn’t be here if we didn’t.” Elijah says. And I look at Asher with pity on my face. He knew that we couldn’t turn them away. And
I didn’t want to. They came to us for a reason.
“Alright. Well, we weren’t expecting this so we are going to have to find you all places to stay.”
Alpha Asher says.
“What about the meeting hall? It’s not being used. We can get cots set up. At least it’s
something for now.” I suggest.
“That’s a good idea. Like a little boarding house for asylum seekers.” He says.
“Yeah.” I say. So Asher mind linked the whole pack and told them the situation and to bring any spare beds or mattresses or anything that they had to the meeting hall. That’s where we
were going to set up.
I scanned the room looking at all the faces in the crowd when suddenly I grabbed Asher by the arm and pulled him back far enough so that no one could hear us talking.
“Do you see those two people next to the fireplace? The man and women who are keeping to themselves and having nothing to do with everyone else?” I asked. So Asher had a quick look.
“Yeah.” He says.
“They’re from Jackson’s pack. None of the rest are, but they are. And they were high up
officials too.” I say.
“Alright. I’ll take care of it.” He says.
“I’ll get everyone else to the meeting hall.” I say.
“Take your guards and don’t leave their side for anything.” He says. And he told the guards the same thing.
So I took everyone to the meeting hall and there was already a cook there making food for

these people and I made sure that I got everyone’s names and wrote them down in a notebook. In case family members came looking for them.
There were so many people. Women and their children, children without parents that were being cared for by other people, elderly people. I couldn’t believe the destruction that Jackson was doing. It was too much to comprehend right now. So I just concentrated on the task at hand.
I was helping set up cots for everyone and getting them all some food. So many people from the pack showed up to help out that I was amazed. They really did come together in a crisis like this. When they were needed.
I had a first aid kit with me and I walked around checking everyone out because some of them had been traveling for days. Their packs were wiped out long before Jackson’s attack on civilians hit the news.
I patched them up the best that I could but I needed to send someone to restock the bag three times in order for me to get through everyone that was there.
“You’re really pretty Luna.” A little girl says.
“I’m not Luna. But thank you. I think you’re really pretty too.” I say.
“I love your hair.” She says playing with my really long blonde hair.
“I love your beautiful eyes. They look like the forest.” I say.
“That’s what my mommy used to say.” She says. And I look at the woman that was with her.
“I’m not her mother. I found her hiding in one of the destroyed packs. I couldn’t leave her.” The woman explained.
“Of course not. You poor thing.” I say.
“I’m sorry about her calling you Luna. You were with the Alpha earlier and you seem to be in charge. I just assumed and I called you Luna.” The woman says.
“Don’t apologize. It’s perfectly alright. I know that it must seem like that.” I say.
“You look really young to be a doctor.” She says.
“I’m not actually a doctor. Everything I know I learnt from my mother. I’m the closest thing this pack has to a doctor at the moment. I think I’m doing alright though.” I say. And she looked around at everyone else.
“Yeah. I’ll agree with that.” She says.
“Where is your mommy now?” The little girl asked.

“My mommy passed away a couple of days ago too.” I say.
“Was it that mean man who did it?” She asked.
“Yes. It was. And believe me, he’s not going to get away with hurting any of these innocent
people. We are going to make sure of that. I don’t know when or how, but we are going to stop
him eventually.” I assured her.
“Good. He killed my mommy and stole my daddy.” She says.
“Well, hopefully one day you will get to see your daddy again.” I say.
“Where’s your daddy?” She asked. He was the one killing everyone.
“I don’t know. I haven’t seen him for a really long time. Not since I was smaller than you.” I say.
“That’s a really long time.” She says.
“It sure is. Anyway, I need to get back to work. I’ll come and check on you again later.” I said and I got up and started doing the rounds again.
Alpha Asher showed up a little after that and I went up to him while everyone else was looking
at us.
“What happened?” I whispered,
“They’re in the cell’s for now. They claim that they left Jackson.” He whispered back so no one
else could hear us.
“Not a chance. They would never leave him.” I say.
“I didn’t know whether to trust them or not. So I put them in the cell’s.” He says.
“You didn’t put them near Beau, did you?” I asked.
“They’re down the other end. Why?” He asked.
Because if you put them next to him then I have no doubt they would try to kill him from the next cell,” I say.
“Because he turned himself in?‘ Asher asked.
“Because he got caught. They don’t know that he basically turned himself in.” I say.
We looked at the waiting and expecting crowd and Asher had to get up in front of them all. He laid out a few ground rules for them. Like the fact that they are strangers and he doesn’t want them wandering around all over the place to start with. We have had trouble with people trying to infiltrate this pack before and he needs to side of the air of caution.
I mind linked him while he was talking to them and asked him not to tell them that I was

originally from Jackson’s pack. I am starting to get a little respect from them, that will just take it away. And he agreed with that. It would be best if they didn’t know right now.
When everyone was settled in and they were trying to get comfortable I sat at the table at the front of the room and Alpha Asher gave me a book of the names of all the warriors. I was doing up a schedule for them to keep watch in the meeting hall. Just in case there is any trouble or in case people are here without the best of intentions.
I was doing up 12–hour shifts for the warriors and there were going to be 6 warriors on at a time. I thought that would be enough to keep an eye on these people. At least for now. We’ll see how it goes and if they do actually cause any trouble.
I managed to do up a roster for the first week and I was going to keep going when Cole walked
over and took all the books out from under me.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“You’ve done a week of rosters. That is plenty for now. Asher sent me to come and get you.”
He tells me.
“Why? I can still do more.” I say.
“It’s 10pm. It’s way too late for that now, Come on, let’s get back to the packhouse.” He says.
And I looked around. Most people were asleep and the first shift of warriors were already on
watch and my three guards were still there as well.
“Sh*t guys, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize how late it was. I say.
“It’s alright. You looked pretty intense doing that stuff so we didn’t want to bother you.” Sawyer says. And I stand up and the four of them walk me back to the packhouse.
When I got there I went to the kitchen to get something quick to eat and I had a cigarette
outside with Cole right by my side, and I was starting to get a little sick of never getting one
moment to myself. Not one moment without someone right by my side.
So I sucked the cigarette down as quickly as I possibly could and then I went inside and I went upstairs to my bedroom.
When I walked inside I saw Asher was there on the phone wearing only a pair of shorts and I couldn’t help myself but stare at his mouth watering chiseled body before I came to my senses and I grabbed some clothes from the walk in and went to the bathroom.
I had a shower and I got dressed and when I went back into my room Asher was off the phone and sitting on my bed waiting for me.
Don’t you have your own room?‘ I asked.

“I do. But I realized last night that I really like sleeping with you.” He says.
“I bet you say that to all the girls.” I said and he chuckled as I climbed into bed.
“Actually, no. You’re the only one that I’ve really said it to.” He says.
“Well, I should feel special then. Shouldn’t I?” I asked and he climbed in next to me and pulled
the blanket up over us.
He immediately put his arm under my head and pulled me closer so that my head was resting on his chest and the dull drumming of his heart was really relaxing.
“Yeah, alright. I could get used to this.” I said and he chuckled again.
“Get some sleep. You look exhausted.” He says.
“I am. It’s been a long day. But it’s a good ending so far.” I say sleepily.
