CHAPTER 18
“Who’s blood is that?” I stuttered out.
“I’m not sure. I just needed you to be the first to know that we did find a body out of the
borders. There wasn’t much left. Our pathologist has the body now and I told him that it was
the priority. I’ll know the second that he knows who it is.” Alpha Asher says to me.
I felt the room spinning and my knees gave out from under me and Alpha Asher caught me
before I hit the floor and he carried me over to the couch. The same sparks ignited wherever
he touched me. But I couldn’t concentrate on them right now.
“We don’t know that it’s her.” Alpha Asher tried to assure me. But all I felt was numb. Like my
world was over. And I couldn’t even think about it, let alone put a sentence together. So Alpha
Asher just stayed there with me on the couch not saying anything.
I wouldn’t call it a comfortable silence, but it didn’t bother me and I wasn’t too focused on
trying to find what to say to him while he was there with me.
“How long until you find out?” I asked.
“Should only be a couple hours from when he got the body.” Alpha Asher replied.
“And are you going to stay here with me the whole time?” I asked.
“You can’t be alone right now. Not waiting for news like this.” He says. Then my phone started
ringing and it was the same number as earlier.
“Hello…Who the hell is this?.. It’s not f**king funny.” I yelled into the phone and Alpha Asher took the phone from me.
“Listen, whoever this is better knock it off or I will find you and rip your f**king throat out. Do you understand me?” Alpha Asher asked and I could tell that they hung up on him.
“That’s the second one today. I don’t know who it is.” I say.
“But you
have an idea. Don’t you?” He asked, looking at me curiously.
“Alpha Jackson. Psychological abuse. His favorite. If he took my mother then this would make
sense to him.” I say.
“I had no idea he was such a sick bastard.” Alpha Asher says. And someone rang the doorbell but Alpha Asher got up to answer it and it was Cole and Olivia.
“We just heard. We didn’t know that you were here. And we wanted to come and sit with Ivy.” Cole explained. So Alpha Asher let them inside and they came over to the living room.

I was taken by surprise when Olivia hugged me.
“How are you?” She asked. “Alright, dumb question.” She says.
“We don’t know that it’s her. It might not be here.” I say looking off into the distance. Like I was trying to convince myself of that.
“That’s right. There are a lot of people it could be. It could have been a human that the rogues got a hold of. We don’t know.” Alpha Asher says sitting down next to me again.
“Am I a bad person for hoping that’s the case?” I asked.
“No. Absolutely not. You’re just hoping that it’s not your mother.” Cole says.
“I never imagined my life without her. She was only 18 when she had me. We grew up together. And she did everything to make sure that I had the life that she never had. Her parents
disowned her when she got pregnant. We were living in this tiny little crappy shack that was
half falling apart on the outside of the pack. The whole pack shunned us because mom got
pregnant at 18 to someone that wasn’t her mate.” I was admitting for the first time.
“They really did that?” Cole asked.
“Yeah. They didn’t even care how she got pregnant. They didn’t care about the circumstances.”
I say.
“What circumstances? She got pregnant.” Olivia says.
“She was raped. I’m not supposed to know that. She never wanted me to think that I was
anything less than what I am. She never wanted me to put myself down. But I found out that I
am the result of a rape…How the hell could she even look at me after that? I was a constant
reminder of the worst night of her life.” I say as a tear rolled down my face.
“Because she loves you. She might hate your father, but you are half her. And she loves you for
that.” Alpha Asher says.
“Yeah. Well, she was very tolerant. She allowed the entire pack to shun her because of what
someone else did. She was disowned by her own parents without telling anyone what happened to her. And she took the hard road to get where she is. I don’t know how she did it. I
could never be that strong.” I explained.
“You already are. And you get it from her.” Alpha Asher says.
It was another two hours later before Alpha Asher finally got the mindlink from the pathologist and he left the room while they were mindlinking. But it was really pissing me off the longer
he was taking. And when he walked back into the room the whole three of us were looking at
him.

CHAPTER 18
“I was right. The victim was a human. Looks like the rogues got her. It wasn’t your mother.” He
says. And I felt like I could breathe again. But at the same time I could stop the tears that had
been threatening my eyes for hours. They started flowing down my face and I couldn’t stop
them.
Alpha Asher came over and hugged me and I wasn’t even thinking when I hugged him back.
“It’s alright. She’s still out there and we are going to find her. I just sent the scouts back out.
They know where to pick up from and they will find her.” He assures me.
“Who was the girl?” I asked.
“I don’t know. He’s going to try and identify her and get her home where she belongs.” Alpha Asher says. I didn’t even notice when Cole and Olivia left but Alpha Asher stayed there with
- me.
It felt like we were sitting there on the couch for ages with his arms around me consoling me.
These tears were waiting to come bursting out when we got the news, but the news wasn’t
what I expected and I didn’t know if I was relieved or just happy.
Alpha Asher finally convinced me to lay down on the couch and he put my legs across his
legs on the couch and I didn’t realize how tired I was until I fell into the darkness of
unconsciousness.
When I woke up the next morning I was on the couch with a blanket over me and I rolled over
to have a look and Alpha Asher was asleep on the other chair across from me. He stayed with
me all night.
I looked at the clock and it was 7am. So I got up and went into the kitchen and started the
coffee while I went upstairs to have a shower and I got dressed.
When I came back downstairs Alpha Asher was in the kitchen and he handed me a cup of
coffee.
“Thank you. You know, you didn’t have to stay here all night. I would have been alright on my
own.” I say.
“I know. But with what happened yesterday and then that prank phone call, I felt safer that you
had someone here with you.” He says.
“Yeah. But you’re the Alpha. You could have sent guards.” I say sitting at the table.
“I was here already.” He says. And I just nodded my head at what he said.
“I have to go back to that hospital today. I have to check on the battle patients.” I say.
“So, are you going to take up the medical profession as well?” He asked.

CHAPTER 18
“I might take a couple of pre med classes but I don’t want to be a doctor. I just want to know enough that I can really help during these crisis situations.” I say.
“You already do.” He scoffs.
“Well, I’d like to be qualified so I’m not breaking any laws doing what I am doing.” I say.
“Ivy. I’m the Alpha. I make the laws around here. And I say that you can help during every attack if you want. You don’t need any degrees. But do you know what you want to do when you finish school?” He asked, sitting down at the table with me.
“I do want to go to college. But I was thinking that I might study business. It seems more practical and doesn’t take as long as medicine.” I say.
“Oh yeah. Well, business is never a bad idea.” He says.
“Thanks.” I say.
“I know that you’re definitely smart enough for it.” He says. And I looked around the kitchen and out the window. “Is something wrong?” He asked.
“I was just wondering if the Alpha of one of the most powerful packs had more important things to do than to baby sit a teenage girl?” I asked.
“I don’t mind.” He says.
“Is this because of Beau? Because of what he did? Just disappearing the way that he did?” |
asked and I saw Alpha Asher’s face drop.
“No. This has nothing to do with Beau. Believe me. It’s because you’re my pack member and
you are in a horrible situation right now. I would do this for anyone. But we haven’t had a
kidnapping around here for as long as I’ve been alive.” He says.
Someone then knocked on the door so I went to answer it but when I got there, no one was standing there. But there was an envelope sitting on the doormat outside. So I picked it up
and took it inside.
I opened it in the kitchen and pulled out a photo and I froze where I was standing. I grasped
my hand over my mouth and Alpha Asher raced over to me and he grabbed the photo of my
mother who was still alive, tied to a chair with her clothes all torn and cuts and bruises all
over her like she was being tortured. She was barely conscious and there was a man wearing
a mask standing next to her with a large knife in his hand cutting along her leg while the photo was being taken.
