CHAPTER 14
On Monday morning I woke up at 5am and I got changed and I went for a one and half hour jog around the town and then back to the house again. I went upstairs to my room and I had a shower and I got dressed in a gray short sleeved baggy top that looked three sizes too big on me, which it was meant to, that said ‘East Hampton New York‘ on the front of it and white
shorts and white slip on shoes. The sleeves of the shirt came to almost my elbow but that
was the style. It was meant to look really baggy.
I put everything into my bag and I headed down to the kitchen and I grabbed a cup of coffee
before my mom walked into the room.
“A lot of the patients at the hospital have been asking for you. Do you think you could stop by
this afternoon?” She asked.
“I didn’t do anything special. I just did what any normal person would do. I made sure that they
didn’t die.” I say.
“I know. But they are still grateful for what you did. They wouldn’t expect that from a teenage
girl. She says.
“I will try to come by this afternoon. But shouldn’t they almost be healed and ready to get
discharged?” I asked.
“Some of the lesser cases have been discharged. But the more serious ones are still there.”
She says.
“Okay. You know that I hate it when people make a fuss over that crap. I just did what I had to.”
I say.
“I know. But no one in this pack expected you to do that. And you surprised the hell out of a lot
of people.” She says.
“Aren’t you going to be late?” I asked.
“Yes. Please try and stop by this afternoon?” She asked.
“I’ll try.” I say. And she grabs her stuff and kisses my cheek and she leaves the house.
I sat there reading over my coffee and when I was sure that she was gone I snuck out the back
for a cigarette.
When I got to school that morning the whole atmosphere felt like it had changed. People were staring at me again. Very intently. And it made me a little nervous. Did they hear about Beau leaving after we all went out. Did they blame me for what happened?

CHAPTER 14
I got to my locker and I was approached by one guy that I had seen around the halls and in a couple of my classes.
“Hi. I’m Matthew. I just wanted to thank you for what you did the other night. You saved my father’s life when he was brought into the hospital.” He says.
“You don’t need to thank me for anything. Really. I just did what I had to do.” I say.
“No. You went above and beyond. I heard that it was amazing. And I will always be grateful for what you did.” He says.
“Thank you. I appreciate that.” I say. And he walked off and then I started thinking that maybe they were staring at me because of me working in the hospital that night. I wasn’t used to people staring at me because they were impressed by me. That was something completely different to me.
“Well, it looks like you are the star of the town.” Spencer says standing next to me.
“I guess so. It’s weird.” I say.
“They’ll get used to it. Especially if I do it again.” She says.
“Does this town get attacked much?” I asked.
“No. Not really. So they will probably act the same way as this time.” She laughs.
“I am not looking forward to that.” I say.
“Where’s Beau? You two are usually joined at the hip.” She says.
“That’s a good question. He took off on the weekend and no one knows where the hell he is. He hasn’t contacted anyone.” I say.
“That’s strange. Well, have you noticed that I’m in the same classes as you guys?” She asked.
“I hadn’t noticed that. I’m sorry.” I say.
“It’s all good. Let’s go. I’ll be your best friend until he gets back.” She says.
“How about us two just be friends and if he comes back then he can just join in if he wants.” I suggest. And she smiled a sincere smile at me.
“Sounds great.” She says. So we headed to our first class together talking to each other and joking around. Spencer was pretty easy to be around. And I found out that she didn’t have too
many friends around here. Everyone thought that she was a geek because she got A’s in everything without even trying.
When we got to our first class we sat at the back of the room and she sat in Beau’s usual seat

because I wasn’t expecting him to just show up. I know that he isn’t coming back anytime.
soon.
It did hurt. But I kept telling myself that I barely knew the guy. I did like him, but I barely knew him. So I shouldn’t be so surprised and I shouldn’t be this upset over him leaving. I needed to
concentrate on school so that I could get into a good college and hopefully follow in my
mother’s footsteps. I don’t know if I want to be a doctor though. Maybe some other respectable job that would be just as meaningful. I don’t want to be a lawyer.
When I came out of class with Spencer I noticed the Alpha was in the hallway talking to a couple of people. And his scent hit my nose immediately and it caught my attention. I stood there staring at him for a bit. He did notice me and he smiled and waved and I smiled back before Spencer got my attention and we headed to our next class.
“Are you alright?” Spencer asked.
“Yeah. I’m fine. Why?” I asked.
“I don’t know. You just seemed to be checking out the Alpha is all.” She says.
“Who the hell wouldn’t. Look at him.” I say. I then heard my name come over the PA system telling me to go to the office.
“Do you know what that is about?” Spencer asked.
“No idea. I’ll catch up with you.” I say.
So I headed to the office and the receptionist told me to head on through to the principal’s office. And I had absolutely no idea what was going on until I walked in and I saw Alpha Ethan Jackson standing in the office.
“Hello Ivy.” He says smiling at me. But I stiffened straight away.
“Hello Alpha.” I say.
“You’re looking well. Louisiana obviously suits you.” He says.
“Yeah. I guess it does.” I say.
“Have a seat Ivy.” The principal says. So I awkwardly sat on the couch that was in his office and Alpha Jackson sat across from me not taking his eyes off of me. I was getting really
uncomfortable.
“Can I ask what this is about?” I asked. Then Alpha Asher walked into the room.
“I would like to know the meaning of this visit myself.” Alpha Asher says walking across the room and leaning on the principal’s desk.

“Well, Ivy and her mother are my pack members. You haven’t integrated them into your pack
so they are still my pack members. And I am ordering them to come back home.” Alpha Jackson says. And Alpha Asher looked at me and the fear that was on my face.
“Well, that’s not going to happen. They will be joining my pack tonight. I’d already decided. That’s why I was here. To tell Ivy to be at the pack house tonight.” Alpha Asher says.
“Well, there’s nothing to stop me from taking her with me right now.” Jackson says.
“Except me. If you can get through me old man. Then you might just have a right to take her.
But unless you want me to kill you and take your pack as my own, then I suggest you don’t
push it.” Alpha Asher says.
“You are really going to fight for these two outcasts?” Jackson asked.
“If they’re outcasts then why do you want them back so badly?” Alpha Asher asked.
“Because they are my property.” Jackson says.
“Ivy, stand up.” Alpha Asher says. So I stood up immediately and he walked over to face me.
“You know what to say.” Alpha Asher prompted me.
“I, Ivy Inglewood, reject the Hidden Pine pack as my own. And will forever more not be under
Alpha Ethan Jackson’s control.” I say. And I felt the tether to Jackson’s pack snap instantly. And Alpha Asher nodded his head at me. And then he smiled urging me to continue.
“I now accept the Hidden Oak Pack as my pack and will follow Alpha Asher Singleton as my
new Alpha who I will follow from this day forth.” I announced and I felt the tether to Alpha
Asher’s pack snap into place.
“She’s not your property anymore.” Alpha Asher says looking at Jackson.
“You have no idea the mistake that you just made, boy. You have no idea who her or her mother are.” Jackson said through gritted teeth.
“I know exactly who they are. They are my pack members. And I don’t give a s**t if Stella gave
birth to Ivy when she was only 18 and unmated. That was no reason to shun them and treat
them like the outcasts that you treated them like…I know all about it. I know why you’re pack
hated them and they were doing it under your instructions. You ordered your entire pack to treat them as outcasts because of Stella giving birth at 18. You’re pathetic.” Alpha Asher spat
at him.
“Well, now they’re your problem. For now. But they will come crawling back to me. They have
- to. Because I am the reason that Ivy is still alive. I could have ordered her mother to get rid of her. But I didn’t and they will realize everything that I did for them.” Jackson says standing up.

“Do you actually believe any of this s**t that you are saying?” I asked.
“You all just made a huge mistake. I will do everything in my power to make you regret it.” Jackson threatened before he walked out the door.
“Why does he have such a hard on for you and your mother?” Alpha Asher asked.
“I have no idea. That might be something that you need to take up with her.” I say.
“I might just do that. Are you alright? You look a little rattled after seeing him.” Alpha Asher
says.
“He’s not a nice man. And if he came all this way demanding that we go home with him, he’s not going to leave just yet. Not without a fight. And he fights dirty.” I explained.
“Thank you for the heads up. But he’s not staying in my town and he’s not crossing back over the border.” Alpha Asher explained.
“We’ll see about that.” I say and Alpha Asher could see the concern on my face.
