A Story Cut Short 11

Soren ignored their shocked exclamations. It was as though he hadn’t heard them. He attempted to get off the bed on his bare feet, but the injuries from the car accident made standing unbearable

Pain radiated from his right leg and ribs, forcing him to collapse back onto the bed

His eyes remained bloodshot. He struggled to rise again, only to be firmly pushed back down by the doctor who had just entered to do his rounds. After examining him and having the nurse reconnect his IV, the doctor scolded him harshly

You were in a car accident and nearly lost your life. How can you move around so recklessly as know soon as you wake up? You even pulled out your IV! Do you have a death wish? Don’t you it takes 100 days for bones to heal

All of you herewhy would you stress him out when you know he has a heart condition?”

The doctor continued to lecture everyone present. Then, he listed out instructions on how to care for the patient meticulously. Shaking his head in disapproval, he left the room after assigning a few more nurses to monitor Soren’s condition

Inside the room, Soren’s breaths were short. His agitation was evident. He couldn’t believe

Zara had blocked him

He refused to believe that they had gotten divorced

With how much Zara had always loved him, how could she possibly bear to divorce him? This thought finally calmed him slightly. Extending his hand toward Eddie, he demanded the

divorce certificate

Eddie, who was as perceptive as ever, handed it over immediately. Meanwhile, Winry and his group of friends exchanged bewildered glances

Winry hadn’t expected that Soren would ignore her completely. Just yesterday, he’d risked hist life to protect her. Today, not only was he uninterested in her promise to stay by his side, but he also seemed entirely fixated on Zara

Jealousy burned within her, and her resentment toward Zara grew. It was all her fault. If not for Zara creating drama over a divorce, how could Soren’s attention have shifted away from

her

SorenShe pouted and spoke in a voice tinged with anguish. What’s so important about that divorce certificate? If she wants to leave, let her go. I’ll always stay by your side.”

In the past, hearing Winry pledge her loyalty would have thrilled him. He would have immediately broken up with Zara and turned to embrace her. But now, her words stirred no joy in him. Instead, he stared at the divorce certificate in his hand with a sneer.

Chapter

It looked convincing enough, but he had not signed any divorce papers nor visited the courthouse. How could this certificate possibly be real if Zara had acted alone

He didn’t respond to Winry but muttered under his breath with a bitter snort, I want to see if she really has the nerve to stay away for good

Though he spoke very softly, everyone in the room heard him clearly due to the proximity. They quickly tried to smooth things over

Exactly! Zara loves you so much. There’s no way she’d leave you. I bet she’ll be back in less than two weeks.”

Two weeks? Jack, you’re being too cautious. I say one week!”

I bet three days!”

Their loud, playful wagers broke through the tension, momentarily dispelling Soren’s unease. Tossing the divorce certificate aside, he comforted himself that this was just Zara throwing

tantrum

Perhaps seeing him save Winry had made her jealous again. She must have made this fake divorce certificate to scare him. He wouldn’t fall for it

Once everything was resolved, he would teach her a lesson. Playful outbursts were tolerable, but making a scene with something like this was unacceptable

With that in mind, he picked up his phone and made a call. Investigate from where Zara got this divorce certificate.‘

Once he had the evidence, he would confront her and see how she tried to explain her actions
