Chapter 34
Addison’s POV
I helped Corbin use the facilities, hearing the door open and shut numerous times as people entered and exited. I didn’t need to go, but my family was busy speaking to all the well–wishers and networking. I couldn’t help them with that. Phillip offered to take Corbin, but it wasn’t his responsibility. I straightened his clothes and gave him a small smile before leaving the stall.
I braced Corbin on my leg to let him wash his hands and noticed a tall, thin blonde shooting me dirty looks. I didn’t know her, but she obviously had something she wanted to say to me. She started to talk as we dried our hands.
“You know we can all tell that…that… kid is not Phillip’s, right?” she scoffed. She said “kid” as if the word itself was making her sick. She had been searching for another word. I am very sure she was initially thinking about calling my son something very nasty.
“I never said he was. Are you in here looking for me? I think you have the wrong person,” I replied as I headed towards the door.
She stepped in front of me and put her arms out, “Oh, I have the right person. Do you think that your jiggly ass is worthy enough to take him from me?” she asked in anger.
My only thought was getting my son safely out of this bathroom. I have to believe that this
must be Phillip’s ex. But I am not sure. I know I won’t allow her to put her hands on either of
- us. “I am not trying to do anything, Ma’am. You need to let us pass. We would like to leave. If
you have an issue, take it up with Phillip. Neither I nor my son are involved in whatever you
have going on. I will not allow you to scare or threaten either of us,” I told her. She didn’t scare me. She is not a fighter, but to protect my son. I will do what I need to keep him safe.
“No, b***h. I am going to talk to you about it. Everyone else knows to leave Phillip alone. I
don’t know who or where you came from, but you need to back off. I won’t allow you to take him. He is just angry at me right now. Once he calms down, he will take me back. He just needs a little more time. So, I can’t just let you come in and wreck everything for me. Phillip is
mine. You hear me, slut? Leave him alone, or you and you little bastard here are going to be
sorry,” she yelled at me.
I haven’t been this angry in a long time. Almost three years, to be exact. But this b***h needs to realize that she isn’t going to talk like that in front of my son. I stepped back towards him and picked him up. I secured Corbin in my left arm before attempting to walk past her. She

grabbed my arm, the one I was carrying Corbin with, and yanked me back away from the door. I didn’t drop him, but her long nails dug into my arm, breaking the skin. Corbin was scared by her actions and started to cry.
“One last time, lady, I am using that term loosely. You either let me leave this restroom, or I will make you,” I told her. She felt like she had the upper hand as she was in four–inch heels and was standing above me at six feet tall. Her laughter filled the room as she said, “Please, what are you going to do, w***e?” As if I were helpless against her. That was where she was
wrong.
She got her answer about ten seconds later. As I moved to walk past her, she shoved Corbin and me into the wall. I made sure that he wasn’t hurt, holding him securely in front of me and
allowing my body to hit the wall. I could tell I was going to have a bruise there tomorrow. I didn’t hesitate this time. I punched her as hard as I could. Right in her nose, with my right fist. I heard a crunch and knew I had broken the cartilage in her nose. I meant to break it. This woman dared to try to shove me and my son down. I let her go when she tore my arm up, but now that she was trying to hurt my baby boy, all bets were off. She needed to learn manners,
and I didn’t mind teaching her.
She was wearing a white dress that was now spattered with her blood. It was shocking to see
the graphic pattern it made against the white of her dress. “You b***h! How dare you hit me?”
her shill voice rang out in a scream. She was angry, but I wouldn’t let her come at us again. I
pulled the door open and took off down the hallway with Corbin.
I tried to comfort him as I hurried back towards our table. He was crying loudly, and we were
definitely drawing attention as I moved quickly to my aunt and uncle. My cousins noticed me
coming first. They had been speaking to Phillip, but they all stopped talking upon hearing
Corbin’s cries. He never cries. He is a very calm toddler. So they already knew something had happened before we approached the group. My cousins and Phillip stood like a wall behind
me as I stepped up to my aunt.
I was upset myself. I had never had to defend myself like that before, but I wasn’t going to allow her to hurt my child. I wanted to cry, too, and my aunt could sense it. As everyone asked what had happened, she pulled me into her arms and spoke directly into my ear: “Do not cry,
Addi. Corbin will become even more upset if you do. Just tell me what happened. Are you
hurt?”
“I am not hurt. I took Corbin to the bathroom, and some woman in there refused to allow us to leave. She grabbed my arm, the one I was carrying him with, and pulled me back. It was like she wanted me to drop him. I tried to leave twice and warned her after she hurt me the first time, but she wouldn’t let us go. She called Corbin and me horrible names. I was scared that

she was going to hurt him, so I punched her in the nose and ran out of the restroom,” I told her with my chest heaving and my emotions still in an uproar.
“Nash, call the police. I will tell the manager that I want that footage of the hallway to the restroom right now so the police can have it. No one is allowed to hurt my granddaughter,” my grandfather started giving out orders before he stepped away. My grandmother stepped up and reached for Corbin, who refused to let me go. He now had his little arms wrapped tightly around my neck and was still crying. He refused to let go of me, and I just ended up sitting in a chair and rocking him. I needed some comfort, too, and soon his wails died down.
He was making little sobs now in my arms. It was like he was trying to catch his breath, and hearing it broke my heart. Tears were clinging to his eyelashes as I wrapped my arms around him and tried to calm him. I had never seen him like this before. But to be honest, I have never been attacked in a restroom before, either. I heard her before I saw her. Her shrill voice rose in the air, “Where is she? Where is that b***h? I am calling the police. How dare you put your hands on me?”
I was not going to deal with her again, and since she had mentioned Phillip, I already suspected who she was. Her voice got louder and more annoying as she approached. Corbin heard her, and his cries suddenly intensified.
“She is not going to hurt you, Corbin. We won’t let her,” I comforted him. But the closer she got, the louder his cries grew.
“Do not take a step closer, young woman. Who do you think you are? Don’t worry. The police are already on their way, but not for my Addison. How dare you put your hands on her while she holds her child. What is wrong with you?” my grandmother asked. She had a calm voice, but I have seen her mad, and she is furious right now.
“Who the hell are you? You need to mind your own business. I plan on suing that b***h for destroying my face by breaking my nose. She assaulted me. I didn’t do anything to them. She will have to pay for what she did, old lady,” the blond snapped out.
“Dina, what did you do? What were you thinking? We are broken up. We will not be getting back together ever again. Even if Addison refuses to date me, you will still have no chance of getting back together. That’s your fault, not mine. You only wanted me for my money, and I heard you loud and clear. We are nothing to each other anymore. Addison and I aren’t together,
at least not yet. You had no reason, or right, to do anything to them,” Phillip berated.
“I saw you with her, Phillip. I saw the way you looked at her. You are even dressed to match
her, just like that little bastard. Of course, you’re with her. I’m not stupid. But you should have calmed down by now. You need to realize that I never meant what I said. You need to come

back to me. I still love you, Phillip. I only want you, baby. You don’t need her. She is nothing compared to me. You deserve better,” Dina replied, clearly agitated.
“You don’t get to decide that, Dina. We are done. There is nothing that would ever persuade me to take you back. You are not the person I thought you were. Addison is a kind, loving person. Something you know nothing about. I would pick her a thousand times over you. How could you scare a little boy like that?” Phillip ground out. I had not seen him angry before, but I could tell he was about to snap.
“How dare you lay a hand on them? You deserve exactly what you got by trying to put your hands on them. We have never seen Corbin so upset, not even when he was injured. He has never cried like that. How dare you call them those disgusting names? You know nothing about them. I will make sure that you answer for what you did,” my aunt told her.
“You weren’t even there. How do you know what happened in there? Of course, you are going to side with your niece. But I am not going to let this go. My nose is broken. My face is ruined, and someone is going to have to pay for it,” Dina told my aunt.
“I was in there. I know what happened,” A voice suddenly came from the back of the group.
