CHAPTER 39
ASHER POV
I was in my office for hours that day trying to find any information on the database about
Malia but I couldn’t find anything. That was really odd in itself. The werewolf council always had this database going so that they could keep track of werewolves and the number of
werewolves in each pack. They needed to know everything to make sure that our secret was
kept. Well, it’s too late for that. But I couldn’t find Malia registered anywhere.
She was found in the woods about an hour away from here saying that she was looking for
our pack because hers had been attacked. There was something not adding up. I couldn’t find
what pack she came from, when they were attacked, nothing. There was no information on
this girl at all.
Since the council was killed by Jackson, there have been a few of us that have been keeping
records still. Because they are important to our kind. We need to know who is who and where
they are. There’s only a few of us still adding to the database though.
So I decided to go for a walk around the pack and ask people what they knew about her. And
no one could really tell us anything about her. They didn’t even know which house she was
assigned to. So I went to find Beau to ask him where her house was but he said that he’d
never been there. He doesn’t know, Ivy kept all those records.
So I headed back to the packhouse and I knew that she had all of the records in books in our
bedroom so I went up there and started searching housing records. And again, Malia’s name
was nowhere to be found. This was getting weirder and weirder. It was like she appeared out
of thin air. There’s no record of her before she came to this pack. And even in this pack, there
was no record of her.
So I went downstairs, I started looking around the packhouse for Ivy to see if she could help
me out with this. She might have some other ideas on how to track this girl down.
‘Ivy.‘ I called through the link as I walked outside of the packhouse but there was no answer.
She always answered me. I looked down at the table and her empty coffee cup was still there
and her packet of cigarettes. So she couldn’t have gone too far.
“Hey, have you guys seen Ivy?” I asked as some warriors were jogging past during their
training.
“Yeah, I saw her headed down the driveway. It looked like she was going towards the new
village that is being built. She turned down the new road. But that was a few hours ago.” One

of them told me.
“Thanks.” I say. So I started walking down the driveway and turned off on that new road.
I picked up her scent really quickly and I followed it to the village and spoke to some people that talked to her. One of them said that she was headed to the next village over to check on things. She was jogging. It looked like she was getting her exercise in while doing her Luna duties. That sounded exactly like Ivy. Multitasking.
So I kept walking and following her scent down the road. But then it wasn’t following the road
anymore. I noticed that it stopped and it went off into the woods. I looked around everywhere.
to see if I could see anything from the road, but there was nothing.
So I followed her scent into the woods and it went in pretty far before it stopped. There was
nothing. Her scent just vanished. How the hell is that possible. I looked around everywhere
from where I was standing. Even looking up into the trees in case she was trying to play a
game with me and get the jump on me. She was always doing that, but she was yet to succeed. She couldn’t get the jump on me yet. But it seems she’s found a way.
I started looking around on the ground and I saw the sun reflect off of something in the distance so I approached it with caution. I moved a couple of leaves out of the way and it was
a needle. I brought it to my nose and instantly recognised the smell. Wolfsbane.
“Ivy.” I screamed out. But there was nothing.
‘Every warrior not on duty, get to the woods on the south east side of the border between the first two villages. Something has happened to the Luna.‘ I mindlinked the entire pack.
Within minutes I was surrounded by hundreds of warriors who got there in a flash and Beau
and Cole were standing right beside me.
I showed them the needle and that there was no scent left. I followed it here but then it just
stopped.
“What else do you smell?” I asked. And they all concentrated on any other smells that they could pick up.
“It kind of smells like cleaning stuff. That’s weird to have out here.” One of the warriors says.
“Not if someone had been handling the crap.” I say looking at Beau.
“Ivy said that there was something off about Malia. We didn’t believe her.” Beau says.
“Hey. This isn’t your fault. You didn’t know. None of us did.” Cole says.
“Ivy did.” Beau says.

“Everyone spread out and found her. She can’t have left the territory. She couldn’t have gotten past patrols with an unconscious Ivy.” I demanded.
So everyone split off into groups and started searching in different directions. We know that this was definitely the last place that she was. So this was our starting point.
“Asher. Stop beating yourself up.” Cole says to me as we were walking through the woods.
“What?” I asked.
“I know that look on your face. You’re beating yourself up about this.” Cole says.
“I insisted on waiting until Ivy turned 18 to mark each other. She was already willing to do it. If we had just marked each other then I would be able to feel her. The bond would be complete. You and Spencer have already marked each other.” I say.
“You are doing the right thing by waiting. She still doesn’t feel the full effect of the bond. And
until she does, it’s not right to force it on her. Besides, you smelt that needle. It had wolfsbane. Marking her wouldn’t do her any good right now. You wouldn’t be able to feel her anyway. Wolfsbane would have her unconscious or it would have suppressed her wolf and everything that goes with it. You wouldn’t be able to feel her anyway.” Cole explained.
“I sometimes forget that she doesn’t feel the bond yet. Because of the way she is with me. Like she needs me just as much as I need her.” I say.
“She does need you. But when she turns 18, she’s in for a shock. Because whatever she feels for you now will be 100 times more. And I’ve seen you two together. That is going to be intense. And we will probably move out before that happens.” Cole says scrunching his face

“Shut up.” I say shoving him.
“I’m just saying. My room is right below yours and sometimes you two can get very into each other. So to speak.” Cole says.
“Do you think Jackson sent her?” I asked.
“It’s possible. Anything is possible. Except for the fact that Jackson thinks she’s dead. We’ve
kept that a heavily guarded secret.” Cole says.
“So, why would Malia kidnap her?” I asked.
“Maybe Malia has a thing for you and she wants to get Ivy out of the way.” Cole suggests. And
I growl at the thought.
“If she hurts her, she’s dead.” I growl out.

“Everyone knows that. She’s already dead for kidnapping her.” Cole says.
“Why the f**k is there no scent.” I growled out in frustration. ” How could it just disappear from
the woods? She couldn’t have put her in a car. Not from there.” I yell.
“I know. I was wondering that too. Both of their scents disappeared at the same spot. There
are ways to hide a werewolf’s scent.” Cole says.
“That’s witchcraft. And forbidden on my pack.” I say.
“I know. But I think we all know that Malia isn’t playing by the rules right now.” Cole says.
“You think she would be this desperate for me that she would kill Ivy?” I asked.
“I don’t know. It’s possible. She could be obsessed.” Cole says.
“I’ve never even met her before.” I say.
“That doesn’t matter. You’re the Alpha. Everyone knows you. I know a lot of girls in the pack
that want you. But you’re mated so they know that it will never happen. And they know to back
off. Malia is obviously not one of those girls and she’s completely unhinged.” Cole says.
‘Asher. Can you hear me?‘ Beau asked.
‘Yeah. Did you find anything?‘ I asked.
‘Yeah. I’m 600 meters to the left of you. Beau says. So I looked to the left and I could see him
in the distance. So we started running over to where he was with his search party.
When we got there I was instantly hit with the smell of blood and Beau held something up for me. It was Ivy’s sneaker that had blood on it. That’s what I could smell and I took it off of him.
I looked down at the ground but it all looked undisturbed so I wasn’t convinced that she was
buried here. But I was now sure that she was hurt.
