CHAPTER 38
“I’m really sorry. I was just walking past. I hadn’t finished my chores yet today and I didn’t mean to eavesdrop.” She says.
“It’s 11pm at night. Why are you still doing chores?” Asher asked.
“I told you earlier. I wanted to make sure that everything was perfect for the Luna’s return.” Malia says keeping her head down the entire time we were talking to her.
“Well, the Luna is home. So you can go home.” I demanded.
“Yes ma’am. I’m very sorry.” She says rushing off towards the stairs. And I closed the door and
headed back to bed.
“So, you still think there’s nothing wrong with her? How long was she f**king standing out there?” I asked as I walked back to the bed.
“I don’t know. She would have heard a lot, no matter how long she was out there.” Asher laughed.
“I’m glad you think this is so amusing.” I say.
“I’ll talk to Beau tomorrow.” He says.
“Good. Otherwise I will. And that will be a very awkward conversation if I have to have it with him.” I say.
“It’s just as awkward for me. I stole his girlfriend.” Asher chuckled as I finished fixing the bedsheets and I laid down next to Asher.
“You didn’t steal me. I am your mate. And he left town. What do we know about her?” I asked.
“Not a lot. She was found on her own. Hiding in the woods.” He says.
“Hiding in the woods where?” I asked.
“About an hour away from here. She said that she was headed to this pack because she knew
that it was safe. You don’t honestly think that she’s a spy, do you?” He asked.
“Asher. Jackson has been taking people from all different packs. We can’t rule anything out. And that last mission I just went on was an ambush.” I say.
“I know. I’ll get my men to check her out again. Just to make sure.” He says.
“Thank you.” I say. And he rolled over and pressed my back to his front and he put his face in
the crook of my neck inhaling my scent. And I felt him relax into me after that.

CHAPTER 38
It didn’t take Asher long to go to sleep but it took me a little longer. My mind kept going to all kinds of weird places. Wondering where Malia came from, why she could be here. And some of them were not very pleasant places to go. It actually scared me at some of the thoughts running through my head. But I had to make myself stop or I would drive myself crazy. I didn’t want to do that. I needed to get some sleep. So as soon as I decided to shut it all off and not think about anything but Asher then I was able to finally drift off to sleep. Thinking about Asher was the only thing that really did help me get to sleep.
The next day when we got up I realized that we both slept in. But we had had a couple of long
days away from each other and neither of us wanted to get up. Even when we were awake, we
just laid there together in a very comfortable silence.
“We really should get up.” Asher says.
“I know. I can hear the men outside training.” I say looking at the window.
“You’re not joining in today.” He insisted.
“If I can do what we did last night, then I’m sure I can handle training this morning. I’m not the
weak little girl I was a couple of months ago.” I say.
“I know. But it still scares me. I don’t want you going out anymore.” He says.
“You know that I have to. I can’t just sit here and do nothing.” I say.
“I know. That’s what scares me.” He says.
“You scare too easily.” I say. And he tightened his arms around me.
“Only when it comes to you.” He says.
Asher finally got called to go downstairs so he had to get out of bed but I stayed there a little while longer. When I did finally get up I had a quick shower and I got dressed into a red and black sports top, matching tights, socks and sneakers.
I then walked downstairs and I saw Asher in the kitchen with Beau, Cole and Spencer.
“So, have you talked to Beau about his weird freaky girlfriend?” I asked.
“No. I hadn’t gotten there yet.” Asher says subtly. Like he was trying to tell me to shut up. But
Beau looked at me with curiosity.
“The b***h was standing outside our door listening to us have s*x last night.” I say not caring
if Asher didn’t want to tell him.
“Are you serious?” Spencer asked.
“I caught her. I opened the door and her ear was pressed against it. It’s kind of hard to explain

that away.” I say.
“Damn. Freaky alright.” Cole says.
“She’s not my girlfriend. She’s just a friend. And I will talk to her about that. If she doesn’t stop doing s**t like that then she won’t be able to work at the packhouse.” Beau says.
“I appreciate it.” I say.
“I told you that I would handle it.” Asher says.
“And I’ve seen the way you handle matters like that. You pretend like they don’t exist. But I am telling you, there’s something off about that girl. I knew it from the first moment I saw her.” I
say.
“Yeah. You were suspicious of her the second you saw her. Why is that?” Asher asked.
“Because she’s off and we need to figure out why.” I state like it wasn’t completely obvious.
“I told you that I would look into it.” Asher says.
“We’ve got too much s**t going on right now Asher to be worried about someone stalking
around the packhouse.” I say. And Cole and Spencer look at Asher like they agreed with me.
“Alright. I know. I’ll go and do some digging.” He says grabbing his coffee and kissing my
cheek before he leaves to go to his office.
“I can’t believe she was listening to you guys last night.” Spencer says, shaking her head.
“Well, she was. She was acting weird earlier too while we were eating dinner after we got
home from the hospital.” I say walking over to the coffee pot.
I got a cup of coffee and I sat outside to have a cigarette and Beau came around the side of
the house looking around for something.
“What’s up?” I asked.
“I can’t find her. She’s always in the packhouse. She’s not here today.” He says.
“Maybe she’s embarrassed cause she got caught last night.” I say.
“Maybe. I am sorry about that. I don’t know why the hell she would be doing something like
that. She’s a really nice girl. You would really like her if you got to know her.” He says.
“I’m sure she is. When you see her, just tell her to keep normal 9 to 5 hours during the day and
stop creeping around at night.” I say.
“I will. I’m sorry if she upset you. I know that this is weird, Asher asked me to look out for you when you got here, which I did, but we went a little further than that. Even though everything is

different now, I still feel very protective of you. It’s weird, I know.” He says.
“It’s not weird. It’s protective in a different way. Because I feel it too. But it’s more of a brother and sister thing than anything else.” I say.
“Yeah. I guess that is a good way to put it. You’re the first sister I got.” He says.
“Well, I think Spencer is the first sister you got because they were mates before me and Asher. I haven’t turned 18 yet.” I say.
“But you two were definitely mates long before Spencer and Cole.” He says.
“Yeah. I know. I was here first.” I say.
After talking with Beau for a bit I got up and started jogging down the driveway but turned off onto a new road that had just been built and I followed it to a nearby neighborhood that was still under construction but a lot of houses were already built and people were living in them. They were all werewolves and I was checking on how they were settling in and making sure that they had everything that they needed.
After that I kept jogging down that same road past that little village and on to the next one when I heard something rustling in the woods. I thought at first that it might be another animal or patrols of something. But I got goosebumps, which wasn’t normal.
I walked into the woods a little way trying to sniff out anything out of the ordinary but I had to go further in before I got a faint smell of something familiar.
I walked further into the woods before the smell got stronger. It was cleaning supplies.
“Malia.” I sang out. But I couldn’t see her anywhere. And then I felt a sharp pain in my neck and I turned around and Malia was standing there holding a needle in her hand.
“Hi Luna.” She says.
“What the f**k have you done?” I asked as my vision started getting really blurry and I started having trouble staying upright.
“It’s alright Luna. Go to sleep. You’re alright. I will take good care of you.” She whispers as I started to fall but she caught me and placed me on the ground slowly.
The last thing I saw was her standing over me smiling down at me before I lost consciousness.
