CHAPTER 26
“Have you spoken to the Alpha about this?” He asked.
“I don’t need to speak to the Alpha. You’ve seen everything that’s going on. Him and his
alliances have already agreed to stand up to Jackson. The fight will be here in no time. And I don’t want to be left without being able to defend myself.” I insist.
“Alright. We’ll talk about this tomorrow. With the Alpha. If you can convince him then we’ll do
it.” He says.
“No worries. He’ll agree if it means that I can take care of myself and he doesn’t need to be so worried about me.” I say. And I walk up the other flight of stairs and I go back to my bedroom where Asher was still asleep.
I changed into my pajamas and then I climbed into bed and I pulled the covers over both of us and I rolled on my side away from Asher to try and get to sleep. But he ended up rolling over as well and I felt his arm drape over my waist.
My breathing hitched for a moment but I realized that he was still asleep and it was definitely the bond that was pulling him closer to me. I knew all about the mate bond. My mother explained everything to me. I knew how it worked, even if she had never experienced it herself. And I had never been in a situation like this before, but it felt right. It felt like we belonged there together. And we obviously did. But he didn’t know that I knew about it yet.
The following morning when I woke up I slowly opened my eyes and I realized that we had switched positions. Alpha Asher was lying on his back and my head was on his chest.
“Morning.” He smirked at me and I jumped up quickly.
“Sh*t. Sorry.” I say.
“Why?” He asked, confused.
“Well, you were crushing me when I went to sleep last night. I didn’t know that we had changed. How long have you been awake?” I asked.
“A while.” He says.
“And you just let me crush you like that?” I asked.
“You weren’t crushing me. And I knew that you needed the rest. It’s been a long few days.” He says yanking on my arm and pulling me back down.
I put my head back on his chest and he started drawing circles on my back with his finger that

felt really nice.
“I don’t want to ruin this moment right now, because it’s a really good moment. But I went to see Beau last night.” I say. He stayed silent for a while but he didn’t really change his hand movements or his demeanor or anything.
“I knew that you were going to go see him at some point. I wish I was there with you.” He says.
“I know. But I needed to talk to him and I needed him to be completely honest with me. I didn’t know if he would be if you were there.” I say.
“What did he tell you?” He asked.
“He told me all about Jackson’s world domination plan and to make human’s hide in the shadows for a change. And his plans on becoming the werewolf king.” I admitted.
“Yeah. We weren’t sure what we should tell you about all of that.” He says.
“How about the truth? I just want the truth. That’s all.” I say.
“Alright. That’s all you’ll get from now on.” He says.
“And on that note, I asked Declan last night if he could start training me. And I mean, training me to the point of being able to kill someone. Not just to be able to defend myself. I need to know how to fight if this war is happening.” I explained.
“And
you asked Declan to train you?” He asked.
“Yeah. Why is that a problem?” I asked.
“We don’t know who the other traitor is yet. Besides, if anyone is going to train you then I would much rather it be me.” He says.
“You’re the Alpha. You have more important things to do.” I say.
“How about I help you train and you try and help me narrow down the traitor?” He asked.
“Deal. How often can we train?” I asked.
“Every day if you want. Dad is also going to help with the whole traitor situation.” He says.
“Alright then. That’s good. We can help each other out here.” I say.
When we went downstairs to get something to eat for breakfast I got a coffee and sat outside with a cigarette.
“Ivy. I’ve been looking for you.” Spencer says walking up to the house and she hugged me when she finally reached me..
“How are you?” I asked.

“I’m fine. I was going to ask you the same thing.” She says sitting beside me.
“I’m alright. I guess. A lot of sh*t has been going down lately.” I say.
“I know. It’s crazy out there. I’m so glad that we’re here.” She says.
“Yeah. By the looks of it Jackson is moving in the other direction. He’s probably going to leave
this pack until last.” I say.
“Should we be scared?” She asked.
“I’m not. Not yet anyway.” I say.
“Okay. Well, then I won’t be either.” She says.
“You don’t need to be. Alpha Asher won’t let anything happen to this pack. He may seem scary and for good reason, but he thinks of his pack as family. Even if he has trouble showing it.” I
say.
“What’s it like living in the same house as him? Do you see him that often?” She asked.
“A lot more often than you think. Beau came back.” I say.
“Holy s**t. How did that go?” She asked.
“Not well. But I think it will be okay. I’m staying out of it. It’s more family drama than anything so I’m leaving it up to them and staying away from him for now.” I said.
“Good. You seemed pretty down after he took off.” She says.
“I was. Which is why I am staying away. And he knows that. I made that very clear.” I say. We were sitting out there talking for a while when she realized what the time was and she had to get going. She was meeting some friends for lunch. She asked me if I wanted to go but I declined. I had a heap of other stuff to get done today.
She hugged me before she left and then I headed inside and went to Alpha Asher’s office where he was sitting at the coffee table looking through all the files.
“Where is Spencer’s file? I want to rule out people that are my friends. And she is pretty much the last friend that I have here.” I say.
“Alright. Here it is.” He says digging through the files and handing it to me.
“How do we rule them out?” I asked.
“Everyone needs to be questioned but mainly we need to go over their entire history and see if there is a reason why they would be working against us.” He says. So I sat on the couch next to him looking through Spencer’s file and I was so relieved to see that she was clean. I don’t

think I needed to worry about her being a traitor.
I then picked up the next file that said Chloe on it and Alpha Asher tried to snatch it out of my
hands. But I wouldn’t let him.
“What don’t you want me to see?” I asked opening the file and I heard him take a deep breath.
“So, you two were in a relationship together for about two years.” I say.
“It ended a long time ago but she’s still having trouble letting go. I ended it two years ago. But she’s still hanging around.” He explained.
“So, I guess we can put her in the suspect pile.” I say.
“I was going to even without reading her file.” He says.
“So, why did you end things with her?” I asked.
“It wasn’t going anywhere and I knew that I had a mate out there somewhere and I didn’t want
to keep wasting my time with her.” He says.
“That’s fair enough…I guess.” I say. Then the door opened and Cole was standing there with a
frazzled look on his face and not really knowing what to say.
“What is it?” Alpha Asher asked.
“You better just come and see for yourself.” Cole says. So we both got up and went into the house where there were people everywhere in the foyer and living room that were also spilling
into the dining room. All looking haggard and exhausted.
“They’re looking for asylum.” Cole tells us.
