CHAPTER 17
I stayed at the hospital until the night shift of nurses arrived and then I headed home and I needed to take another shower and I made a coffee and sat outside with a smoke. All I could think about was my mother. Jackson has her. I know that he does. But I have no idea where he would have taken her. He would make it really hard to find her. He wouldn’t want me to figure it out.
‘Ivy. Are you there?‘ Alpha Asher asked through the link.
‘Yeah. Have you found her?‘ I asked.
‘No. But it looks like she made a run for it from the car. We’re following her scent and there are little bits of torn clothing on trees as we pass them.‘ He says.
‘She’s a fighter. She would have fought with everything.‘ I say.
‘Do you think it’s a coincidence that the Rogues attacked at the same time?‘ He asked.
‘No. You don’t know what he’s capable of. And what lengths he’ll go to to get what he wants.‘ I
insist.
‘Why would he want your mother?‘ He asked, confused.
‘I don’t know. I have a feeling that she was keeping secrets from me. There are things that
even I don’t know! I admit to him.
‘Alright. Well, we aren’t going to stop looking. Don’t worry.‘ He says.
I didn’t get any sleep that night and I tried to find things to occupy my mind. But instead I just
ended up pacing around the house the whole night. I started cleaning, even though the house
was already spotless. I couldn’t help it. That’s what I did when I was this anxious. I just needed
to do something. But reading couldn’t occupy my mind. And neither could homework.
Cleaning was the only thing that worked.
At 6am someone rang the doorbell so I went to answer it and Alpha Asher was standing there
wearing only a pair of shorts. Which meant that he had been in wolf form all night.
“Come in.” I say. So he came inside, taking in his surrounding as he did.
“We checked every inch of the woods last night. I had all my warriors out. But we didn’t find
her. If Jackson has her then they’re on my territory now.” He says.
“So that’s it? We just stop looking?” I asked.
*No. It’s neutral territory past our borders. We’re allowed to go there as long as humans aren’t

put at risk. I’ve sent scouts out. They are going to keep looking until they find her.” He says.
“He’s had all night with her. God knows what the hell he’s already done.” I say sitting on the couch. And Alpha Asher sat next to me.
“What do you think he is capable of? You told me last night that you think your mother was keeping secrets from you.” He says.
“I found out a while ago that Jackson had been putting money into an account every month but the bank account is in my name. And that made no sense. I never asked her about it
because we were always really honest with each other. I figured that she would tell me when
the time was right. But she never did. I think it was hush money.” I explained.
“She knows something that he doesn’t want to get out.” Alpha Asher says.
“Yeah. And he also didn’t know that we left his pack. We left in the middle of the night. We
didn’t tell anyone that we were going. Which I also thought was odd, but again, I didn’t
question her. I should have asked more questions.” I say putting his head in my hands.
Alpha Asher put his hand on my back to console me and I suddenly felt a spark or something
zap me and he pulled away quickly.
“It’s probably static. I was just in wolf form.” He says.
“Does your wolf attract electricity?” I asked.
“No. But sometimes its hair does stick up like I just rolled out of bed.” He grinned. And I
couldn’t help but grin back at him with his beautiful smile and his green eyes were almost
hypnotic.
“Well, I better get going. Will you be going to school?” He asked.
“No. I will be at the hospital today. Someone needs to be there for the wounded.” I say.
“Alright then. I’ll see you there if there are any more updates.” He said standing up and I walked him to the door. He stopped and turned around like he wanted to say something but then changed his mind and left. So I closed the door behind him and leaned my back against
the door.
After I went to have a shower I headed to the hospital and the nurses were looking at me weird but I just got straight to work. I grabbed the file that was on top and I looked at it from
the patients that were treated from the attack.
“What’s your name?” I asked the nurse.
“Emily.” She says.

“Can you get the word out that I am not actually seeing patients. I’m just here for the ones that were in the rogue attack.” I say.
“Alright. I can let them know. But have you seen how many people are waiting to see you? They know that your mother isn’t here. They want to see you.” She says. And I walked down the hall to the waiting room and it was packed.
“Are you serious? They all asked for me personally?” I asked.
“Yeah.” She says.
“I’m not a doctor. I know trauma procedures? I can’t diagnose!” I state.
“Alright. I’ll tell them that they can’t be seen today. It was too much for you anyway. They should have known that… Listen, I know that we were hesitant to have you here at first. But we really do appreciate you. We all want you to know that.” Emily says.
“Thank you. I appreciate you saying that.” I say.
“How are you holding up?” She asked.
“I’m getting there. Keeping busy. Alpha Asher assures me that they will find her. I believe him.”
I say.
“Good. He’s a man of his word.” She says. And she walks back to the waiting room to explain
the situation to everyone that was waiting to see me.
My phone then started ringing but I didn’t recognise the number on the screen.
“Hello.” I answered. But there was nothing there. “Hello.” I said again and I could feel my heart
beat getting faster and harder as a little panic set in.
“Alpha Jackson.” I say. But then they hung up without saying anything.
I believed that it was Alpha Jackson trying to scare me. He was taunting me. Letting me know how easy it was to get a hold of me. If not physically, then mentally. But I was not going to let
that slow me down today.
I grabbed a couple of charts and I walked down the hall to check on the patients that were in the attack and they were all recovering great. They would be able to be released tomorrow or
the day after.
I was at the hospital for about three hours that morning checking on patients and doing paperwork and then I started heading to my car in the parking lot and I was stopped by
someone calling my name.
I turned around and there was a guy approaching me. I had seen him around school a few

“Ivy. I saw that you weren’t at school today.” He says.
“Yeah. I’m gonna have to take a couple of days off.” I say.
“Yeah. We all heard about your mother. I’m really sorry to hear that.” He says.
“Thanks. Who are you again?” I asked.
“I’m Liam. We have geography together.” He says.
“Right. Sorry. Still a new town and everything.” I say.
“That’s alright. I get it. Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to go to the movies with me some
time?” He asked, leaning on my car.
“No. She doesn’t.” Another man’s voice came from behind me so I turned around again and I
saw Cole walking up behind me.
Okay, what the hell is happening here?
“Hey man, this has nothing to do with you.” Liam says.
“It does now. She’s my friend and there is no way in hell I am letting her go out with a leech like you.” Cole growled. And Liam smirked at Cole.
“I’ll be seeing you around Ivy.” Liam says walking away.
“What was that?” I asked.
“That is the last guy in town that you want to go out with. No one can prove it, but we all suspect that he drugs his dates and has s*x with them.” Cole says.
“That’s rape.” I say.
“I know. But the girl can never remember exactly what happens so Asher can’t do anything
about it. Not without solid proof.” Cole explains.
“Holy s**t. Thanks for the warning.” I say.
“Were you going to go out with him?” Cole asked.
“No. But now I know to stay the hell away from him.” I say.
“Listen, Beau thought of you like a sister. And I guess since he’s gone, that responsibility now
lies on me.” He says.
‘I don’t need anyone looking out for me. I can take care of myself.” I say.
“I know. But it would still make me feel better.” He says.

“And what about your girlfriend?” I asked.
“She’ll get over it.” He says.
“I have to get home. It’s been a long day. I’ll see you later.” I say.
“Alright. Be careful.” He says opening my car door for me.
When I got home I went to the kitchen to make a coffee and I sat at the kitchen bench staring
out the side window when someone rang the doorbell.
I got up to answer it and I froze when I saw Alpha Asher standing there covered in blood.
