Chapter 26: I’m your fiancé
Alaia
I was in bed with my daughter, who had a slight cold. She also had a fever, but she is much better now. We gave her all the necessary care and love, which helped her recover quickly. I missed seeing her jump and shout.
Tomorrow we will have an event with the country’s business community. It will be a great affair, and my father told me that I will be officially introduced as his daughter, as it is an open
secret here.
“Daughter, someone is waiting for you downstairs,” my mother said, opening the door slightly and showing only her head.
“Who?” I asked, frowning.
“It’s better if you see for yourself.” She smiled slightly.
“Shall we see who has arrived?” I asked my little girl, who has stayed close to me since she
got sick.
“Let’s go,” she said softly. I smiled at her response. I carried her in my arms to see who our
visitor was.
On the first floor, I found a man with his back turned, kneeling to level with Noah. He was talking to my son. His perfectly groomed blond hair was unmistakable. I was surprised to see him, as I thought he wouldn’t be able to travel yet.
“Mommy, Cedi!” Noah shouted when he saw me, so I smiled and approached them.
Cedric stood up and turned around.
“Darling,” I said, quickly moving to hug him.
“Princess.” He kissed my head. “Hello, little one,” he then said, turning to and caressing Alana’s cheek, who just smiled and wrinkled her nose. My children adore Cedric.
“Come in, I didn’t expect you so soon,‘ I said, leading him to the couch.
“You mentioned the event tomorrow, so I arranged everything to accompany you. I’m your fiance; you shouldn’t go to those kinds of events alone. Imagine if someone tries to steal my future wife.” I laughed at his words. He just kissed my hand.
“You know perfectly well that won’t happen,” I said, stroking his hand. He winked at me.
We talked a bit more about his company’s developments, which produces and distributes

medicines worldwide. They are now manufacturing medical equipment and will soon launch
prototypes. Meanwhile, I tell him about my project and explain that I have kept my distance from the Garnett family, as much as possible, regarding his concern about Nick and his
family.
My children and Aidan decided to get Cedric’s attention at one point, so he joined them in
building a Lego structure. I kept an eye on my children to ensure they didn’t take any small
pieces and asked Loli to bring some larger building blocks they could play with.
My parents and the others joined us when it was time for dinner. Cedric has always been
warmly welcomed by my family.
At the table, and almost all the time, the tension between my parents was evident. They didn’t
see each other often while in the UK, each focusing on their activities. My mother took the
time to travel and work with Ash, while my father stayed with the company. But now, they have
to see each other more often, as she was staying at home. Lately, I have seen my father trying
to mend things with my mother, but she kept on rejecting him. I’m beginning to think that my
mother harbors feelings for him but is just afraid to believe in love once again.
I would like to intervene, but I believe they must live their own story–a new one, of course.
“I’ll be going to the hotel, Cedric said as we put the children to bed. I frowned. “I made a
reservation at the Waldorf,” he said, checking the time on his watch.
“You know perfectly well that you can stay here. This house is no different from the one in the
UK,” I reminded him that he has always stayed at my house during his trips to the UK.
“I don’t want to be a bother, you have a full house,” he mentioned.
“What are you saying? My house is your house. Your family has always welcomed me warmly
when I visit them. I can’t allow you to leave. What would your Grandma Thea say?” I said. We
laughed. “This house has enough rooms for everyone. Come on.” I guided him to one of the rooms and asked Silvya to prepare it.
“Rest well,” I said when the room was ready, and he kissed my forehead before I left.
The next day…
After lunch, I went upstairs to take a bath with salts and exfoliants before getting ready.
“This one or this one?” Ash entered, holding several ties in the air. I think she will wear one of
them with the tuxedo she will wear tonight. The options are three in pastel tones and one in a
neutral color.

I opened my mouth in complete surprise when I noticed her hair, which looked very short and masculine.
“Relax, darling, it’s a wig,” she said, styling it as a man would. “The hairdresser did an excellent job.”
“My God, he certainly did,” I said, approaching her to get a better look.
“Mommy,” I heard my daughter’s little voice as she entered with the beautiful golden dress her
aunt made for her.
“My love, you look gorgeous,” I said, giving her a twirl. She smiled brightly.
“I put it on her right away. You know we can’t take the little ones to the gala, one because you’ve already told me the donor will be there, thanks to my grandfather inviting him and his family.” She grimaced. “…and two, because the little ones can’t go out at night. She just recovered from her cold. So, I thought it would be a great idea to put the dress on her and for you to get dressed soon so she can enjoy looking like mommy for a while before we leave.”
“Well, I love the idea,” I said as they started preparing my makeup and hairstyle while my little girl watched curiously and Ash got ready in my walk–in closet.
“I asked Aunt Paula to come with us, but she said she never liked those kinds of gatherings and wouldn’t like it even now,” Ash said loudly from the closet.
“You know the story; she hid from this world for 20 years. She’s being consistent with what she’s always said,” I replied.
I saw my little girl asking to have her cheeks made up, so the makeup artist brushed a clean brush over her face, making us smile.
“My mother has sided with her and said that she won’t go either.”
“I completely understand,” I responded. The friendship between my mother and Elise is as
close as mine with Ash.
After three hours of makeup and hairstyling, I put on my dress, and Alana was thrilled to look like me. I stayed with her for a while, then looked for the jewelry I would wear tonight and finished getting ready.
When it was time to leave, we headed out of the house, and I said goodbye to my children.
Noah told me I looked beautiful, and I had to smother him with kisses, making him laugh.
“Stunning,” Cedric said as soon as I reached him. I kissed his cheek and got into the SUV with
him, while my father and Ash took another. Darius must already be checking that everything is
in order along with Megan.
