Chapter 6
I left the apartment. Suddenly, Harlan felt something was slipping away.
He carefully recalled but didn’t find anything unusual.
It was exhausting taking care of pregnant women.
What was more, Bonnie, pampered as ever, was even more difficult after she was pregnant.
These days were torment for him.
She either wanted hot chocolate in the middle of the night or asked him. for designer bags out of the blue.
Leaning against the couch, Har Purchase completed he bridge of his nose, feeling distressed.
All of a sudden, he thought of me.
During these years, I had been a great wife, never demanding anything from him.
As my face emerged in his mind, he suddenly smiled.
He thought of our first encounter back in college.
It was a debate competition.
As he looked at me onstage, totally crushing my opponent, he suddenly felt his heart being tugged at.
He sighed and thought, “Who would dare to marry such a sharp–tongued woman?”

I was totally not his type, but for some reason, he couldn’t stop looking over at me, the most dazzling among the crowd.
Later on, when facing all kinds of competitions, he always chose to team up with me.
At first, he had loved Bonnie wholeheartedly. But gradually, I started to mean something to him.
After I saved his life, his feelings for me deepened.
He didn’t want to go back to the Trivett’s villa. The sight of Bonnie and Hunter, the loving couple, stung his eyes.
So, he confessed his feelings to me the day they got married.
Marrying me was a decision he made after much consideration.
Instead of marrying some woman from a rich family whom he had never met before, he favored me–at least he knew me and was attracted to me.
Besides, since I was an orphan, I was tough and unyielding.
People like me were the easiest kind to manipulate with love.
After we got married, we moved out of the Trivett’s villa.
He chose to start his own business instead of the Trivett Group shares.
The first few years were the hardest, but I was always there for him. I drank with him together with investors frequently and revised proposals with him till the wee hours.
After the business was stabilized, I resigned decisively and transitioned into his supporting wife.
He had thought about spending the rest of his life with me.

But Hunter was dead, and Bonnie, the woman he had loved for more than ten years, became a widow.
Her pitiful appearance cut straight to his heart.
So, he took me back to the Trivett’s villa, only to be mistaken by her as Hunter.
He just wanted to take care of her.
But as time went by, things went out of control.
Knowing she was pregnant with his baby, he thought, “The baby can be at distraction for Bonnie’s grief. Besides, Fiona and I can raise the baby together, which will do good for our marriage.”
After all, I couldn’t get pregnant, and he didn’t find getting intimate with Bonnie repulsive.
However, after spending some time with her, he realized she was just an ignorant, spoiled socialite.
All she cared about was fancy bags and other luxury, and they had zero common topic.
Only then did he realize he had made a horrible mistake.
He was glad that the worst didn’t happen.
At least I didn’t make a scene.
After all, all I did was go on a little trip. After all, I was still smiling when facing him.
But when he saw the signed divorce papers on the nightstand, his heart completely sank.
