Chapter 11
It was precisely because of this that when the doctor suggested Kane stay in the hospital for observation, he refused without hesitation and headed straight for the Yates family home.
As soon as he reached the entrance of the Yates family estate, he ran into Lillian, who was just about to leave.
Thinking of Eleanor, Kane asked bluntly, “Lillian, why were you in such a rush to have Ellie cremated?”
It was said that Lillian had the funeral home take Eleanor’s body away while Selene was still unconscious. Selene couldn’t even properly handle Eleanor’s final arrangements.
Lillian’s voice was as soft and delicate as ever, “I was just worried that you and Mom would be too devastated, and seeing her body would make it even harder for you both.”
Kane wanted to ask more, but Lillian claimed she had something urgent and hurriedly drove off. Watching her retreating figure, Kane couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss.
That night, inside the Velvet Lounge, Lillian was dressed provocatively, her makeup thick and loud, as she danced wildly in the crowd.
A man with a roguish air approached her, speaking flirtatiously and getting handsy. Instead of pushing him away, Lillian leaned in closer, whispering things so bold that even the man seemed taken aback.
Just as she was about to get more intimate with him, a firm grip seized her wrist.
Kane, his face a mask of fury, dragged her out of the bar.
Outside, Kane stared at this version of Lillian, almost unrecognizable, wondering if he hadn’t followed her out of suspicion, he wouldn’t have believed his own eyes.
When Lillian recognized Kane, her eyes filled with tears.
“Kay, I was tricked into coming here by friends. That man was trying to take advantage of me. Thank goodness you showed up.” She tried to fall into Kane’s arms, but he stepped back coldly. Kane pulled out his phone and played a video.
In the footage, Lillian was seen ordering drinks, hiring male models, and engaging in tawdry conversations with men she had just met.
A vein pulsed in Kane’s temple, “Lillian, do you still dare to say you were forced?”
He expected her to be embarrassed, remorseful, maybe even offer an explanation or apology.
But to his surprise, Lillian was stunned for only a moment before she reverted to her carefree demeanor.

“So you found out, huh!”
“Why don’t you join me inside, and we can have some fun together!”
“What?”
Kane looked at her in disbelief.
As Lillian turned to head back into the bar, Kane grabbed her again.
“Lillian, do you have a death wish?”
He remembered how the old Lillian was frail, unable to handle even loud noises outside, and her diet required careful planning by a nutritionist.
Yet just now, she seemed to have had a lot to drink.
Suddenly, understanding dawned on Kane. He scrutinized Lillian from head to toe.
“Your health… it’s been fine for a while now, hasn’t it?”
Lillian laughed, “You just figured that out?”
Her smile cut through Kane like a knife, his breath becoming rapid and heavy. “You’ve been fine for a long time, so why did Ellie have to donate her bone marrow to you?”
“That’s where you’re wrong. It wasn’t me who asked her to donate.”
Lillian waved a finger in front of him, “All along, it was you and Mom who pushed her to give me her bone marrow.”
“The doctors told you I was recovering, but you didn’t listen!”
“So all of this, it’s your problem, not mine.”
Kane felt as if he had been struck by lightning, his body shaking violently before he bent over and coughed up blood.
Seeing this, Lillian recoiled in disgust, as if afraid his blood might splatter on her.
Kane looked at the disdain on her face, realizing too late the truth about the Lillian before him.
Perhaps this version of Lillian was her true self all along.
But his understanding came too late.
His Ellie was gone forever.
Kane thought, if Ellie could see him now, she would be heartbroken.
